- In this video, I show you and tell you how to install torsion springs on recessed lighting. If you have can lights or recessed lights, then they can be held in place using torsion springs. They're actually really easy to use and really reliable with regards to holding the lights in place, so I figured that I would show you how to install the springs along with the lights. They are used in many different light fixtures and used to hold various pieces of trim to the ceiling with other things around the house.

After watching 20 other videos, THIS is the one that actually helped me! Great video, well done.
Googled multiple combinations of words trying to figure this out and this video helped me understand i need to use the hooks, not the holes with slots.
Very helpful. After watching this I pulled out the tabs a bit more in the can, and increased the spread of the torsion springs. Great job!
thank you thank you thank you! 5 years I was looking at those stupid gaps in those stupid lights! I was just about to order new ones but the thought of going into the attic to undo the 6" cans was just ughh! and then I randomly googled how to adjust them properly and this guy is the shizzle! yep those two clips were exactly there in every can just ;like he said. worked like a charm!
Mike, you’re the only person doing this correctly. Thanks for your video!
Thank you! I had NO IDEA what I was doing, and this set me straight. I will now reinstall my led lights, and I will be they stay up!
If you don’t have tabs, look for little slots closer to bulb. NOT the key hole ones. Video was great and solved the problem we’d had for weeks in seconds.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! ...no more sagging retrofitted LED lights! Time and gravity took their toll on our [now 5 year old] LED lights. This litte trick made them look brand new! ❤
I was so excited to find this but my cans have no c-clips and no tabs. Do u think I’m going to have to replace the whole can? I have 10 of them😩
It resolved the issue I had installing the light fixture. Thanks
what if the people that installed your can lights didnt use a can with hooks for these tension springs? is there anyway to put them in if they fall out?
Helped me tremendously. Thank you very much! 5 stars!
You’re a lifesaver! Well, saved me a lot of frustration at least!
Any video on how to add the tabs if you don’t have them
Same issue here. My lights came with Clips. Might have to self tap them in place. Any luck with yours?
Trying to do this without using the tabs was painful. Thank you for the help.
What if you have old cans that do not have these tabs? there seems to be a bracket just one one side. The housing that I removed seemed to be connected by one set of springs at top, but there is not something to hook up springs on either side
That explains it. The last guy must not have had a clue either and just wasn't even close. I'm surprised it didn't fall out.
What if my can doesn't have thos tabs to open up?
This is the one. Thank you
thanks for the video. Was wondering how to deal with my cans!
My hero!!
Hell Yeah!!!!
No tabs on interior of can.
aye aint you the guy who stole them chipmucks
