Hey Sandman, first comment on your channel to say a big THANKS, I love your videos, you have a perfect voice for long stretches of listening, and your content is always treating original subjects in the lore!
I don't count the number of chores or drives I made with you on the speaker. 🤪
Also, cheers from France mate! 🥂 Lieutenant literally means placeholder since it was the one supposed to command "in lieu" of the captain 😎
You legend! It means the world to get that kind of support
That's interesting and amusing! It just goes to show how languages can be misinterpreted and then be developed into a new word!
@@SandmanofTerra 6:32 I really think you should lay off the fanboyism if you really want new people to learn about 40K lore. There's this elitist attitude that other 40K UA-camrs like Luetin seem to have regardless you all keep stating that "If you're new here, this is a great place to start". And I doubt there are new people who watch 40K lore. Most normies just watch animated Trailers and have no time to sit down for story telling.
I never HATED Leandros. However, Titus being subjected to the Inquisition and being demoted because he brought a doddering neophyte as a battle brother is enough reason to hit Leandros across the face so hard Roboute feels it and goes: that was warranted.
Leandros is a little streamlined heavy imperial tax.
Leondros reads too much Codex
@arctrooper636 you know the worst part? He breached codex rules by just calling the inquisition. He should have warned the chaplains and librarius for scrutiny
@@sokratikas Yeah, I always thought Leandros was related to Chaos because of this
Leandros the Bitchrayer definitely deserves a slap
Gideon ravenor wrote an in universe book about defying chaos. It was called "The Armor of Contempt" and his thesis was willpower and contempt for chaos itself could shield one from its effects. When colonel commisar gaunt was tried for chaos taint after returning from the ez mission to gereon he stated that philosphy in his successful defense.
yup!! came here to say this.
@@coreyjones3788 u mean for Malum Caedo
There is a dude in the lore with my name?!?! AWESOME!!!!
@@gideonevans9717 yea, he is basicly a walking self propelled trashcan.
So that's why the armor pickups in Boltgun are named that.
I want a scene where Titus smacks Leandros or something. Just to put the dude in his place
One rotten blueberry.
I think he will return as captain or elevated to the 1st company
Would be funny if he fell to chaos shortly after.
@@josedelarosa8524 ohh the irony

Leandros went straight HR instead of talking to the manager. 😂🤣
Wouldn’t be surprised if Leandros has fallen to Tzeentch in SM2.
Jussst as planned.
Or he had already fallen, would explain why he was such a prick.
exactly what i was thinking, Leandros has fallen to chaos OR he is a tyranid infiltrator (dont know if its possible, but considering how they are the antagonists in the new game i wouldnt be surprised)
@@wernervanschalkwyk6652it would be more thematic to have him fall to Chaos.
He broke thru Nemeroth's power with barely any difficulty. The other two had no chance. I don't think he's a Null, but it wouldn't surprise me if he has some small touch of psychic power, deriving directly from his fervent, fanatical desire to protect Ultramar and the Imperium at large. It would be similar to the Black Templar's worship of the Emperor. That fanatic devotion to his duty to protect mankind could manifest as resistance to the taint of Chaos. It's also entirely possible that it's a benevolent denizen of the warp -- like he's Justice from Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening. The Warp is similar to the Fade in the Dragon Age mythos. Denizens of the Warp representing good emotions DO exist or could easily manifest with the sheer amount of valiance the Eldar, Tau, armies of the Imperium, Interex, etc. show on a perpetual basis. Heck, several Eldar Gods still exist or have a continuing presence in the warp, regardless of Slaneesh devouring them. It's entirely possible a warp entity representing the duty of the Space Marines, or that desire they have to protect mankind.
Well those presences are shards of what's left of the Eldar gods (mainly Khaine) after slanneesh broke them and vore'd most of them with Khaine and chegorach being the big 2 with yilvaine(of how ever its spelt) being a semi-3rd as she was more a reconstituted god than the previous examples.
As someone who is currently playing through Inquisition again, this theory definitely holds its weight
Leandroses actions really makes me wonder if he isn't corrupted
There is no armor like plot armor. But we love Titus so it's okay. I will miss Mark Strong being his voice though.
It's like wrong without Mark's voice

How about this idea for Titus. **WE** control Titus right? WE are a warp entity (or the emperor?) and **OUR** influence over him defends him from the warp.
It's a meta narrative :)
Hahaha, of course!
I really like this idea.
This is really brilliant
Hmm, maybe I WAS The Emperor all along... or was I Alpharius? Hmm!
checks out for wibly wobly warp BS
As for Space Marine ending: I find it more believable that Titus is a heretic than I found the fact that Black Templars of all Chapters serve as Inquisitorial bodyguards.
You know, the one Chapter that has 6 to 9k battle brothers and are at cold war with the Inquisition due to Chapter size and Celestial Lions.
I think they were supposed to be Deathwatch but they couldn't make the models in time
Inquisition constantly will use things they don't agree with. How many times has the Inquisition used Xenos for victory? Black Templars are under scrutiny by the Inquisition but not because of their Loyalty, merely because they fear another Horus Heresy if the Templars were corrupted.
@@CainEverest I remember they had the Deathwatch pauldron as I used it for my multiplayer model. I easily made a Deathwatch character using the character creator. I too though that they were supposed to be Deathwatch though as it would have made sense for an Inquisitor from the Ordos Xenos to be overseeing a battle against orks.
inquisition also makes big use of psykers which y'know, touch with warp, not to mention several warp survivors
They was ment to be deathwatch, templars don't deal much with the inquisitors due to them having psykers and templars hate them, as for being a heretic not really with him being able to hold off the warp as loyalists do have librarians who are psykers, alot can hold against the warp as well if they will to the emperor is greatly strong
The original Space Marine is what got me interested in 40k; and for years I, along with everyone else, thought we'd never get a sequel. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw Titus' face at the end of the reveal trailer. I hope Space Marine 2 will do the same for others what the first game did for me so many years ago.
He could like Zael Efferneti from the Ravenor series. A psychic mirror, he uses warpstuff around him but cannot channel it himself. A mirror, making him immune to corruption since he uses the abilities of others. That kid became a Grey Knight. Titus, since he is a passive psyker, would have completely been ignored by the Librarius and would have been thought to be a normal man unless people attack him with warp powers. I always thought that.
That makes a ton of sense actually
That may sound crazy, but it does make sense
Mirror is a opposite of a Blank
1. Hard to detect by the more psychic of individuals.
2. Complete immunity to corruption without harm.
3. Even rarer than a Blank.
This! 👀. Same idea after playing SM1. How the powers of the chaos sorcerer didnt work on him. Thank you for voicing this!
32:02 Maybe the extended close proximity to his primarch has had some effect? Marines get a buff from being close to their primarch in 40k, or did at least, do you think this is possible?
Is he really all that more resistant than other Marines? That whole thing just felt like they needed some kinda complexity to the plot so they threw in the Inquisition being dicks because that’s a reliable trope.
He is absolutely more resistant than other Ultramarines, specifically. Compared with a group like the Grey Knights, no, not at all, but for those who share his Gene Seed, he is astonishingly resistant.
Well he pushed back against psychic powers where his peers failed, and fell into an entire vortex of it, he's prolly a... smidgen more resistant.
Also in defense of the Inquisitor, they're just doing there job! And that job is being an asshole.
if he had grey knight geneseed or was an astartes made from a hidden legiones caetagis then absolutely not. any other geneseed? fucking absolutely!
Just look at the intro cinematic to Dawn of War 2, Eldar Farseer just smites the shit out of a bunch of Blood Ravens without stopping her attempts to cast a spell. Meanwhile Titus just fucking walks through warp force powers, Shrugs off attacks from Ork Weird Boys and CAN GET INTO A FIST FIGHT WITH A DAEMON PRINCE that is bathed in chaos energy, All without any corruption or issue. The only other space marines who can do that are either Librarians or Grey Knights. The ability for Titus to resist all the warp energy slung at him just from the first Space Marine game is exceedingly remarkable, which is why its such a big deal to everyone.
The last time we had a named character that was a blank was Macabee in Dawn of War 1, when Necrons would harvest human populations and turn any blanks they found into Necron Pariahs that were specialized in fighting psykers like Eldar Farseers, Chaos Sorcerers and the like. Necron Pariah were retconned when they did massive retcons to the necrons in 5th edition, but Macabee is still remembered.
I was always a Dark Angel...and now that I have the Old Lion back, we are the Paladins of the Imperium. The shield that even broke Angron.
In all honesty, Leandros will become a heretic in the end. Since we know how Warhammer 40k tend to plot heretic agents this way. Remember the trope of the hidden antagonist as always near the main character.
Named Marine? [X]
No helmet? [X]
Ultramarine? [X]
Titus has all GW's desirable traits to be fucking invincible.
If Titus is a blank his AOE would be miniscule(less than a foot?), which is technically possible(I think) & his blankness seems to on the weak side as he *was* affected by Nemeroth's "warp bind" during his intro cutscene, just not as much as Leandros & Sidonus. SM1's ending seemed a natural lead-in to a Deathwatch based game that might let you make your own Astartes from almost any chapter.
they would know if he was a blank, most common people can't be anywhere near the, Jurgen is the one exception.
@@infrasoundwell Jurgen doesn't do basic hygiene so how much is the bad smell really attributed to his "blank-ness" and not just him refusing to shower (probably a mix of both and Ciaphis not wanting Ms. Vale's psycher looking into his mind).
@@infrasound Jurgen creates a physical embodiment of the blank's repellent.
People don't get nearly as agitated because they can point out a reason, the smell.
I think the fact people can't figure out why they get agitated by some people (blanks) is a giant reason why they get the hate.
Psychic inquisitors work with them and treat them normal because they know where this agitation comes from.
Since Jurgen's blankness is secret the smell suffices as answer enough.
If the existence of blanks was common knowledge in the Imperium, their lives wouldn't be so crap.
If that was a thing I’d make a lamenter so the dreadnaught isn’t alone anymore
@@McGillus Actually blanks are treated like shit in the imperium because they screw with regular people on a large scale. often times with whole hordes of citizens dragging blanks to the starport when Black Ships arrive for tithes of psykers and blanks. there are many anecdotes in the lore that blanks are often times killed by their fellow man because the negative presence they have (which is generally associated with more powerful pariah) drive people crazy. When travelling the warp, any pariahs have to be as far away from any psykers (particularly the ships astropaths) because the blanks can screw with their ability to navigate or even block them from being able to see the Astronomicon when traveling the warp.
I am an American, so that means I am correct, but I am here to tell you... you can say whatever you want. That is the real secret power.
As an American I want to correct the british man on how to pronounce words in his own language, but I also want to respect his freedom to be unapologetically wrong about whatever he pleases.
I find myself wondering about the "dark" power that protects Titus. Does that mean dark as in "the dark gods" or does it mean dark as in "unseen"? Because it could be that an unseen/dark power(the emperor) is the one protecting him, for whatever reason. It calls to my mind about the scene where the Lion meets the old man by the river.
I think it’s more of an “unseen” thing. I think a good example to support that theory is when they portrayed Corvus Corax’s new raven form which is very “daemon like” and implied to be a manifestation of how someone can use the power of the warp in a way that doesn’t support the chaos gods. Like since primarchs are part of the warp themselves, most likely, they can harness that to channel the strength and protection of the warp in a more direct way. None of this is outright confirmed but that’s what seems like the most likely scenario to explain all of the angles.
I believe it's just his unbreakable will and convictions to his primarch and bros
Maybe Big E had something to do with his ability🤷♂️
One of my new favorite channels sitting around painting, or playing a game. Your videos really are a great listen. Keep it up! thanks.
Thank you so much 😀
I play starfield and listen to his stuff
Since there is a trailer with a message saying "you have been chosen to walk the 9 ways" tzseench could be interested in Titus's resistance to the warp.
Weirdly enough the bit I’m most excited for is Scottish Captain Acheran. Dunno why, but from the trailer it sounds like that’s what they’re going with and I just think that’s neat
Scot is a great accent for space marines
@Sandman of Terra
I actually have a theory regarding Captain/ Lieutenant Titus' resistance to the warp... It actually consists of a failed possession attempt during the mission against the chaos Sorceror that killed the rest of his squad. It's possible that the Sorceror attempted to Possess the Squad turning them into demonhosts and in the heat of Battle was unaware that this had been attempted and/ or killed the sorceror prior to the completion of the ritual... or it was a success, and he unknowingly expelled the Demon. Think the Exorcist chapter but accidentally. It produces the same results and could be the source of the perceived "taint."
That's a cool theory. I could see it working
The problem with the pariah gene arguement is it would have been found out as an aspirant by the chaplains/librarians.
He is resistant to chaos because of one simple reason. The Emperor protects
This isn’t actually far from the truth. Titus was glowing golden with his confrontation with Nemeroth. It would also make sense that the God Emperor personally intervened to hunt down and bring upon his wrath towards the traitor space marine. He could still be a weak blank however Titus was punching the absolute shit out of someone definitely stronger than him it would also make sense the emperor was there powering him up.
I looked up the cinematic and all of Titus' service studs are golden.
One option not explorded here, and I think it's an interesting one is that Titus is not an Ultramarine, his geneseed is either of the 2nd or 11th legion. We know nothing about these legions only that when they were expunged the Ultramarines grew in ranks considerably making them the largest legion by far. If the ranks of the 2nd and 11th were added in then it is possible Titus descends from on of these Legions and that resistance to the warp is something that Legion had
02:10 As an American, I’ve always wondered about the history regarding these 2 pronunciations. Thank you for the explanation.
I've always wondered about the Lu tennant lef tennant thing. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Also I've got well into 40k over the last few months. Can't wait for the game. I'm gonna pick up the first space marine game for my 360 next time I'm in cex
Titus just gets a warp def buf from being so close a so close to an actual 40k demi-God for 50 plus years. Some of that divine protection for Guilliam or girlyman jk fro. That rubbed off on Titus and all the 2nd legion. Well that’s what I like to think I really hope it’s not choas.
Proximity to a Primarch doesn’t in itself have an effect, except perhaps for Dorn, who could calm the warp around him a little. The traitor legions mostly got corrupted BECAUSE of their primarchs
Ngl man, I am SUPER salty I didn’t come across your channel sooner but since I’m here now I’ll drop a comment and a sub 😁
Hahaha legend! Well glad to have you man
Could have been a short awnser, but I love that you took the time to run through it all, great vid!
Titus should be canon
He’s shown in the new codex so hopefully he’ll get a datasheet soon
He is Canon now
Where? I was told he wasn't in the codex.@@colinfields6034

Space marine 1 is canon now.
Hey, I've did some research one chaos resistance. In Warhammer Fantasy the Halflings and Ogres are by nature resistance to chaos, and we're deliberately made like that. However, they are very simple in nature, Haflings like to eat, drink, smoke, and farm, while Ogres, just eat, eat a bit more, eat a lot, and consume the leftovers. Titus is not like that.
Some men are just built different
Ultramarines and imperial fists were the 2 biggest after absorbing the remnants or the 2nd and 11th legions
He can't be a blank, they cant be made into space marines. It was tried amd doesn't work due to the warp fkery going on with the gene seed.
Same goes for custodes having psyker powers it can't happen.
I thought it was the Dark Angels who remained around 2nd largest, where once they were the largest, prior to the Rangdan Xenocides
@@CynicalOptimist99 that was pretty early on during the Crusade around the same time the 2nd and 11th became "the forgotten and the purged "
I got to say I downloaded this video through the UA-cam app before you edited it down and I'm already at an hour. Honestly, I like the longer and laid back format.
Interesting! Good to know, maybe I'll test both formats in the future and see what does better. really appreciate the feedback
@@SandmanofTerra NP man, keep up the work. I stumbled upon you during the Lorgar episode and went through your back log already. Love the long format media!

"They got stronger, they got faster and they got even more organs," is such a hilariously bizarre statement without context.
I gotta be honest man. Leftennant would normally egregiously annoy me. Your etymology lesson and the joke/truth about “living with these people…” perfect. Gave me something to laugh at every time my lizard brain recoiled from “leftennant.” Thanks for the laughs. Cheers!
I need Guilliman to reinstate Titus to Captain rank. The rest of the squad probably jumped Leandros’ ass.
Space Marine 1 was honestly what got me into Warhammer 40K lore!
I vaguely remember lore that blanks can't become Space Marines due to all of the Primarchs all having some psychic abilities. The body would reject the geneseed or something
seeing that titus is resistant to the warp, my guess is that he’s a blank of sorts. Thought it wouldn’t make sense since everyone else would’ve be repulsive of him
Your on the right track, there are two types of blanks, the ones your thinking of are the extreme variant, but there is a weaker category that can be tolerated which Titus may fall under
The part where you mention the difference between "leftenant" and "Lieutenant" had me in stitches! Comedy Gold! I'm American and I'm from the South, so I know about words and how people say stuff. But aside from your disclaimer, my watching this video got me into Space Marine 1 and I bought it off of GOG because of your video. Thanks for the lore bit.
Another possibility is that he has a very strong will.
I never realized I was into 40k after playing the OG space marine game until years later. I played and thought the game was awesome but never knew 40k was this huge universe. The space marines and all the brutal gore fascinated my 12 year old brain. It was until a year ago when I got into warhammer that I made the space marine connection. Such an amazing universe and I'm so hyped for the sequel.
Loved this, left the room and came back to the alpha legion being discussed, of course they are in the mix
i like how at the end of Space Marine, when the Inquisitor and Black Templers take him away Titus is allowed to keep his weapon. Kinda shows that they dont really think he is tainted.
I'm looking forward to Space Marine 2
I think people hate too hard on Leandros, for instance I remember Captain Uriel Ventris actually admiring his Sergeant Laerchus for sticking to the teachings of the Codex even though it cost Ventris dearly he had no ill will towards his Sergeant.
Being a rule-stickler is one thing but going against proper chain of command and reporting to outside forces, ESPECIALLY to an organization that is low-key hostile to Space Marines (save for their dogs) is justifiably hate-able, at least Learchus actually went to Chapter command.
As was already explained in the video, Space Marines, and especially the codex compliant Ultramarines, have Chaplains for that matter, and Reclusiarchs if things get too spicy.
Leandros basically shat on his beloved Codex like toilet paper by breaking SOP and got Titus demoted and stripped of rank at a time very near to the revival of his gene-father, which was a very important event in the Chapter's history. All this because a prick read the Codex like a Bible, that which even Guilliman himself found flawed.
Been playing warhammer Fantasy Total War since it came out. Same with Dawn of War. Love both those games. But Space Marine really surprised me and I absolutely loved it from the very beginning of that game when they jumped packed onto the Ork airship and that Ork said Oi, Git of my ship! and it was on from there! Was waiting forever for the second game and was heartbroken when I learned that a second one most likely wasn’t going to be released. But the emperor has listened to my prayers and made the second one happen! Which is rare in the video game industry when studios go under, things get bought out, key people quit, or basically anything in the video game industry happens that make games go into development hell, to shelved, to basically having a gits chance in the warp to being ever made.
Really digging this style of video.
It would be great if while walking through the game Titus came across the corrupted body of Leandros and thinks to himself "I bloody knew it".
He's resistant because the devs need him to be
CORAX!!!!! Bring back my warrior poet Dad😤
One posibile explanation also can be that: With his rank and warrior wisdom to anchive his rank, he gain enought of strong will to withstand warp influence for some time and in game been enpowered by "ORC BELIEVE IN BLUE" as also after they watch him killing them by hundreds, he could be given some sort of status by ocks on planet like comander yaric posible have on armagedon.
Fun fact in war hammer bolt gun one of the taunts is I am finishing what captain Titas started also you play as a space marine if that wasn't ovios
Leandros is like that one kid in school who reminds the teacher about homework.
If they re- released Spacehulk, exactly as it looked on Panasonic 3do, I would pay any price for it.
I was under the impression that there were two types of blank, the variant that people can’t stand to be around and are physically repulsed, but also a weaker variant, their resistance isn’t quite as strong but their presence can be tolerate by some.
I remember the first one was a suprise hit to many people. I think it came out around the time of a Gears of War title did and an interview with one of the guys that made Space Marine said they wouldn't be making a second sadly because sales, although good were not enough. But here we are and how stoked are we. Soundtrack to the first was amazing too.
They shouldve gave him an death watch arm instead of the chain. That wouldve been more candid if he was charged for any kinds if punishment or judgement to prove his loyalty. That wouldve been crazy.
Would have been cooler yeah

To be fair we have had remarkably less time in Guilliman's head, even across the plague war trilogy then the lion got in his one book.
19:48 Epic burn 🔥
Hope leandros gets a humiliation appearance and maybe learned and grew. And titus resisted the warp through sheer will because hes awesome
I love how we talk of getting new people into 40k as if we're some kind of cult or something.
Well.
If the ceramite shoe fits
We are not a cult.
NOW CHANT YOUR BATTLE CRY!
Look what getting new people involved did to Star Wars and Star Trek
in the gray knights they have the boatmen who would be blank or pariah who went through the conversion process but are not among the ranks of the gray knights since they are all psikers so if a blank can survive, in lexicarum The Assignment they set the levels negative and before the pariah are the Upsilon // Phi // Chi // Psi with different degrees of immunity to psychic powers and resistances.

I can't help thinking you're constantly on the verge of bursting into a laugh, just because you can't believe you're actually getting away with talking about this stuff on UA-cam and making some money. And I absolutely love it :D
SM2 is the only game I’ve been excited for in half a decade
Incase you haven't seen it before, check out the space marine games mod "space marines augmented" for the steam PC version. Absolutely brilliant mod, it's not finished yet but it's going strong and going places, I believe terminators may be the next thing added to the game. So far they've added apothecaries to the game for multi-player and exterminatus. Great video thanks!
CEGORACH! he would so fit. He loves to throw a subtle wrench into the chaos gods plans. and what would be a greater subtle laugh for the laughing god to shield a Mon-keith from the taint when it really mattered?
That would be cool!
I feel like it's very likely that Leandros himself is the one who has fallen to Chaos.
The absolute set on that guardswoman for telling titus to ignore the inquisitor
Titus is a fantastic character, a true Astartes, and Mark Strong's voice acting was *perfectly* done. He's so much more popular than Cato Sicarius that it isn't even funny.
Leandros went on and on about the codex. YET HE BREAKS THE ONE RULE AND REPORTS TO THE INQUISITION!!!
Loved the whole video. As an American I had to rewind and listen to the leftenant bit. Loved it
Very cool. I'm new to 40k, but I always liked Space Marine 1, so it's cool to learn this stuff before the next one comes out

Exactly this, perfectly put.
Important question - who are the biggest Imperial nerds - Ultramarine or Imperial Fists? The Dark Angels and Blood Angels are definitely the cool ones and if this was high school, they'd have all the cheerleaders while Ultras and Fists are in extracurricular clubs for acapella and marching band
About the word "Lieutenant"... It is a french name : Lieutenant = Lieu-Tenant = Celui qui tient ce lieu = The one who hold this place / The one protecting this place / The one in charge of this place.
For those interested in french and catholic culture, the french king was considered as the "lieutenant of the Christ" (the person in charge of France in the name of the Christ).
You're welcome ! 😇
People keeps saying they wanted to punch Leandros however that won’t do any damage to that little shi
Instead, make Big daddy Guilliman himself acknowledge Titus interpretation of Codex Astartes correct infront of Leandros himself, that would wound Leandros to hell and back

It would be so juicy to have Leondros fall to chaos in 2.
If Titus is a latent psyker that would be so badass
Where my sequal to the twin stick shooter that came out with the first game?
I was kind of expecting for Titus to end up in Deathwatch.
Also, i really hope they brought back Mark Strong as the voice of Titus.
Mark Strong won't be voicing Titus
