It depends on what you mean by "regular". The UV-5R is a walkie talkie, or HT (handheld transceiver), but is not for use as an FRS/GMRS radio, if that is what you mean. It is an amateur or "ham" radio and requires an amateur radio license to operate as a transceiver.
I just bought mine ( off of amazon sorry) since i live in a area where it gets colder and snows more. I will use this as I travel as i travel to Alabama for christmas
Did u know that u can program the baofeng uv-5r as a police scanner without using chirp? Here in the netherlands we got p2000 frequency, this is police ambulance and firefighters.the frequency is 169.650.
You forgot to mention this is NOT legal to use outside of the amateur radio bands. Businesses and anyone transmitting between 150-174 & 450-520 must be using an FCC Part 90 compliant radio, which the UV-5R's are not.
Gabriel, it is well known that the UV-5R is indeed FCC Part 90 type accepted for use as a business radio. The FCC ID is ZP5BF-5R. The international version does not include the FCC ID on the radio, however those sold by reputable dealers in the US, such as Buy Two Way Radios, do have the FCC ID on the sticker. It is located on back of the radio.
I have a Baofeng T1 radio, I restored it from the factory. my problem is to reset and when I use the softweare and the usb cable I give it either on the screen control + R or control + W it shows me 00 666.666 I do it with the up and down arrow and it does not show me the 16 or 19 or 20 frequencies it should have. What am I doing wrong or what am I missing?
This radio is for amateur radio only. Quoting an earlier comment: ". The UV-5R is a walkie talkie, or HT (handheld transceiver), but is not for use as an FRS/GMRS radio, if that is what you mean. It is an amateur or "ham" radio and requires an amateur radio license to operate as a transceiver."
*Is it legal, in the US, to use that radio to broadcast on the FRS frequencies without a ham radio licence?* *Not sure if it's approved by the FCC to be use as a FRS radio since you can remove the antenna and it's over 2 watts.*
No, the Baofeng UV-5R is not FCC Part 95 type accepted or approved for use as an FRS radio in the US no matter the license. A ham radio license does not provide for or allow legal use of any ham radio on FRS frequencies. The Family Radio Service (FRS) is a separate service and is licensed under Part 95 rules. The radio must be Part 95 approved for use on the FRS.
I also took off PTT button or TX button chip and its rubbers (except monitor/flashlight button) with longnose plice to shorten that button as well as Call button, I crazy glued with some plastic from lid container and put some rubber felt on noth PTT and Call button, So. That button is now untouched and cannot be reversible anymore. Just use Baofeng as a scanner or receiver. 200 Mhz - 260 Mhz worked on UV-5R with the help of CHIRP software. So you can transmitt your wireless microphone to UV-5R Receiver.
Thanks for the straight to the point and concise video my friend. Cheers
I'm getting mine tommorow thanks for the info on the radio!
I love the review of the manual!
We just tell it like it is. :)
Excellent "Un-Boxing," thanks, Danny...
Thanks for the comment! We get great feedback on this radio. Really can't beat it for the price.

So can you use it to just talk between two devices that you own without a license?

@@BuyTwoWayRadios so I can buy 10 of these put my own frequencies in this radio for my Security company correct.
will this radio work for Airport ATC?
The Baofeng UV-5R operates on 136-174 MHz VHF and 400-520MHz UHF. AIrport ATC frequencies fall outside the VHF frequency range of this radio.
If you want airport frequencies, you need a Uniden Bearcat
взял 2 такие- про телефон забыл. в селе просто офигенная вещь. хочу взять еще 2

We don't carry the T1 so we have no information on it. You may need to contact your dealer or seller for support.
