Why Dream Team is the Best Sonic Game Since Mania

- Sonic Dream Team may be an Apple Arcade exclusive, but it's also the best Sonic game in a good while. Why is that?
Because the developers (SEGA HARDlight) actually looked at what works in Sonic games, and just did that. It was that simple. This is one Sonic the Hedgehog game that hasn't thrown out the baby with the bathwater, and in so doing, not only is it an excellent culmination of everything that Sonic Team has been trying to do for several decades, it also makes those older games better as a result, because we can finally see where those ideas were pointing us.
Really sorry for another video in this format, life is just way too busy at the moment for anything else. Here's hoping we can make more frequent videos in 2024, believe it or not these are actually a labour of love as we really enjoy making videos, and over the past few months it's been a matter of picking and choosing out battles to get any videos made at all as life gets unbelievably busy.

@@TheOrian34exactly yeah, people will laugh at you and tell you you’re stupid for being upset that you can’t play a console exclusive on a different console, but when it’s exclusive to a platform YOU don’t have? Suddenly SEGA and Apple are the devil and they killed your dog. Apple threw money at SEGA and said “hey, make an exclusive game for us” and SEGA accepted the money

Let's be honest here the animation in this game really great there's more expressions for sonic and friends between cutscene and idle animation is too good for mobile game this is impressive
It's insane that a Mobile gamr has better animations than a Mainline game likr forces...
There was literally only 4 playble characters in that game yet the animation came out as poo poom

7:30 The Light Speed Dash is in Generations (but it is in context sensitive rings), Forces (Lighting Wispon), and Frontiers (L3 on any ring and collectible).
I love this game so much, I’ve already 100%ed it twice over.
1:42 Well, Sonic Frontiers as a whole was meant to solve that problem. That's why many call it an unfinished prototype. Because that's, despite being a really fun game. It IS what it is. The prototype of the formula for the next 3D games in the franchise.
The gunplay from Shadow was pretty good and they could easily have reskinned that to just be Chaos Spears like in the final boss.
So naturally Shadow's 06 gameplay was based around vehicles and chaos powers. - There are mods that show how well that stuff could work though...
So naturally SEGA dropped Shadow for two decades.
MUST ADD: I agree that the gender diversity thing is fantastic. I hope they keep it up for some future games. Blaze and Shadow throwing energy around in the same manner wouldn't make anyone bat an eye.

Ngl I enjoy this format just fine, your opinions are presented thoughtulfully and clearly, and i respect them and find them interesting. Not to say I don't love the drawings, I definitely do, but these vids aren't a disappointment in any way.

In my opinion fronteirs is better but dream star is more polished and fells like old 3d sonic which is something I have missed .

I recently got an iPad Pro, my first Apple device. And dream team is absolutely a very fun time! Granted I haven't played any of the recent sonic games and the last I played was Mania intrestingly enough.
Just finished it today. It’s such a fun game, and definitely worth playing,

100% agree, as mentioned in the video it's a very solid game but there are 5 other Sonic games/DLC released this year that aren't Apple exclusive, just play them

You're kidding right? That movie was just a glorified remake of Hop. Sonic can be so much greater, but that movie was just Hop with a bit of added Joss Whedon-esque "so that just happened" humour.
@@HOTD108_ Though I understand were you're coming from, It doesn't change the fact that it gave sega a lot of profit, which in turn made them realise that the sonic IP was still viable and profitable for them. It did spark a movie series after all, and that, plus the success of Frontiers, which they themselves said made them "very surprised", is some of the big reasons as the why the company has been giving the Sonic brand much more investment than before.

It's a strength to be willing to try new things, get experimental, but deciding not to stick with anything even when there's potential for success is truly the biggest issue with Sonic games

That want me to save up a lot of money on an Apple TV 4k solely for this game and then renew my Apple Arcade subscription. Playing it on iPhone 6s was a blast with the icepack trick. Ran into crashes and bugs.

I really hope they port more Sonic games to Nintendo Switch!
Ok I heavily disagree with sonic adventure levels being linear and "not having choice about how you approach a level", sure they aren't the most open levels in existence, but you still get a lot of ways to go through them most of the time, especially with the games more freeing physics letting you make your own paths if you're creative enough.

Tbh, this game is also lack of Japanese Voice since Sonic Rivals Series for the PSP (Also never came out in Japan)
This game would have been for me if not for the platform choice but hey I can say that about one Playstation exclusive as well. Frontiers and Superstars were not for me so guess I will just keep waiting until this gets a port or they make something with the same design. I am not about that open world in Sonic and mostly in general after not finishing Breath of the Wild so yeah.
The real question is, why apple arcade of all platforms available?
I preferred the original trilogy, especially Bowser Inside Story. The switch to 3d after hurt the style for me.

I know I have an iPhone, but I’d rather buy a STH game for one of my game consoles or my PC.
The game is pretty good but I don’t really like the artstyle that much I think it’s too Mario-y it’s the same issue lost world had

It is so incredibly strange this is the first fully 3D Sonic game since like 06. Sad I'm not gonna get to play it!
That being said, I like this more bite sized adventure and wish more franchises tried it.

its a pretty good game but its nothing amazing imo and not a game i come back to compared to like frontiers
sure it has really great ideas but to me frontiers delivers more content wise and in some cases the game feels a little sluggish
i had fun but similar to murder of sonic, anything above A or B is kind of insane
