  • Hola bakers! This year for Cinco de Mayo learn how to make a popular Mexican dessert, flan! This is so creamy and delicious, it’s going to be a favorite at your next party.     1 cup sugar
    2 tbsp water
    5 eggs
    14 oz sweetened condensed milk (1 can)
    12 oz evaporated milk (1 can)
    2 cups heavy whipping cream
    1-2 tbsp vanilla extract
    ¼ tsp salt
    Process:
    1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
    2. Pour the sugar and water in a saucepan over low-medium heat until it becomes an amber color. Do not mix the sugar and water, otherwise it will crystalize.
    3. Once it becomes an amber color, carefully remove it from the stove and pour the caramel into an 8in pan. As soon as it’s poured, spread the caramel around the bottom and a little bit on the sides of the pan since the caramel will start to cool down fast. If it gets too hot use oven mitts.
    4. Place the pan to the side while we make the custard. In a large bowl whisk the eggs together then add sweetened condensed milk and salt.
    5. Next add the evaporated milk, heavy cream, and vanilla extract. Mix until all combined.
    6. Strain the mixture so it comes out nice and smooth. Pour the flan custard into the cake pan. If you hear any cracking it’s just the sugar cooling.
    7. Place the flan into a shallow pan filled with hot water that is 1 inch up the sides. And let it bake for about 50 minutes to an hour.
    When taking the flan out of the oven, if it jiggles a little it’s normal for it to do so.
    8. Let the flan cool for 30-40 minutes then place it in the fridge overnight.
    9. When it’s time to plate the flan, use a knife to separate the flan from the pan. Plate your serving plate upside down over the pan and with one movement flip them over.
    10. Remove the pan and watch that delicious caramel flow down. Now enjoy your some amazing, creamy flan
