I think it comes down to which system you are invested in. I have all Google/Nest products so the Nest cam is a no brainer. I think both cameras would benefit from a flood light to work better at night.
But google abandoned new products in the Nest ecosystem and is forcing people to the Google Home app which is terrible. I think the new cams are complete junk compared to the previous nest cams. The Nest app still blows the Google one away. I may switch all my cams to Ring but need to see if Google pulls their head out.
Agreed. I've read great stuff about the Nest cams however, I'm invested in Amazon echo products and a Ring doorbell, so I'll likely stick with Ring for my cameras.

I'm just now in the process of switching from ring to Google nest. I've had ring exterior and interior cameras for about 4 years now. The time it takes between the time the camera detects motion and I get a notification on my phone is why I'm making the switch. The people are gone by the time I get notification even when they ring my ring doorbell, by the time i get notice and the video finally loads the person is gone with ring. this is why im looking to switch from ring to nest. Ive missed so many critical recordings with ring. I'm running both right now and nest is running circles around ring with load times, imaging, reliability, and design. Im also im the google home ecosystem, so I'm leaning towards switching all exterior cameras to nest.
My biggest concern with the Ring cam is the time delay it takes before starting the recording, if you are quick and and move fast you can run past it in a few seconds and not be recorded at all ...
Yes, if you link all ring camera together when one turn on, and they all start to record . And turn your sensitivity higher also ring camer work off sound also not just Motion detective to turn on

We've had a Nest outdoor camera (mounted inside in the front window) for a few years now. We have a lot of issues with it not recording activity, or recording too much activity. We live on a busy street so it records every single car that goes by, even though it isn't in our activity zone. Sometimes there will be people walking by or cars pulling in and out of our driveway and Nest won't pick it up, even during broad daylight. Going to try switching to Ring and see if it works better. Definitely not a fan of the Nest especially for the price they charge per month. Edit: I switched our home over to Wyze V3 cameras and it works great in the same spot. I also added one in the backyard behind a window screen and even that picks up images and works just fine.
The instructions that come with the Nest specifically state to not mount behind a window. You’re lucky to get any benefit at all out of it given you did not install it correctly.
@@TheThirdeYe1337 but it does. It says do not mount behind a window because it will not perform correctly. It’s right there in the instructions and on the install video. Something about being behind a window greatly impairs it’s performance, especially the motion detection. I’m just trying to help.
So... it says 'don't install behind a window'. You install behind a window and complain that it's not working properly? Someone points this out to you and you still argue? Jeeze.
@@easyware again, the window did not affect the image. I had it right next to the glass so it did not focus on or pickup the glass at all. The issue is with the software and its motion detection and algorithms. It uses differences in images (much like a computer mouse’s optical sensor) to detect motion. It does not use anything that would be obstructed by glass, aside from nightvision which I never used. I switched to Wyze in the same exact spot and it works fine, even with night vision. Low light performance is way, way better. Night and day, no pun intended.
This may be a really dumb question, but what is the quality through a window day and night? We’re getting the house in the market soon… And we need HOA approval to install a camera (hence one of the lovely reasons why we’re selling)… So I don’t feel like going through the hassle of approval. Just looking for some options while we’re still in the house. :)
Nest looked great during the daytime. 24/7 recording is needed here too. I have ring stick up cameras. I agree the app is superb! The more expensive ring cameras aren’t worth it at all though. But the $199 ring cams seem instant because I talk and my voice goes off on the cameras exactly as I talk. On the stick up cams there is a split second delay. I tried the $199 ring cam and I just couldn’t get over the price when I might as well save money and get a stick up cam that does just as good. I do have issues with microphone and talking back and forth with someone on the stick up cams. The minor delay, yes but also the sound is very choppy all the time and that was another issue I had with the $199 ring cam. The nest cam seemed very clear with you talking. I do wish they made a black nest cam though. I want to put these up on trees in my front yard to get better view of cars and people walking on the sidewalk etc. nest cam would stick out and of course I have no need for a light on these cameras. That will just give it all away where they are mounted. The ring stick up cams don’t seem like they can handle harsh weather elements though. They look more like indoor desk cameras lol. Nest looks more rugged. Arlos look very rugged too. If you are on a big time budget I would get stick up cams to start. Nest cam night vision clarity was the killer. I didn’t know ring had better night feed. I need to check that out tonight in complete darkness in my front yard. I have them all mounted in my backyard now. Well lit etc. I have been watching so many different brand of camera videos. Driving me nuts what is best. I might just stick with ring for all my camera needs. It always goes back to ring when I’m trying to decide. I would try arlo but heck no $700 for the system I want. I could buy 7 ring stick up cams for that much. And 1080p video quality is just fine. The more quality a camera has the more power it’s gonna need. Battery will drain faster. Nest cam is $149??? Yikes. Forget it lol
Hi, i have purchased the ring doorbell 2020 and i know that it could be paired with google home, however, could u make a detailed video of the features it has. Thanks
Can you clarify the 24/7 recording. I have the same camera with power and it doesn’t record everything. It’s on all the time, but only records when it detects motion. Is there a setting I’m missing?

I have the ring stick up cam and we got the solar panel with it. Now we charge the battery up in the ring cam and connect the solar panel but before the next day hit the battery dies and it doesn’t seem like it’s picking up from the solar panel energy when the battery is dying. We went to the geek squad but they just said it was the battery but when we got another battery it did the same thing. Can you do a demonstration of the ring stick up cam with solar panel. Maybe we’re missing something. Thanks in advance.
Even without solar, the battery should not die in just a day. It should last 6 to 12 months unless maybe there is nonstop motion in front of it and it's recording non-stop events all day. On the Ring website it mentions there is a "power" setting in the app. Might want to make sure it is set for "battery" and not "wired". Wired would be plugged into a power outlet. The Solar just trickle charges the battery when there is enough sunlight but doesn't run the device.
I think the ring did very well now I have the wyze cameras I have five of them and they work flawlessly they will detect anything no matter how far down the street it is the detection is amazing the only issue and it's only one issue I have is when Im in live view watching the camera and somebody walks in front of it or a car drives by.... it freezes up, is there any way to fix that problem. Other than that I love the cameras I was thinking about picking up this ring camera see how it does and if it works well I will change over to Ring. Thanks for the video you always do a great job.

It's 2022, if Ring or Google wants safety for their customers and to catch criminals, it would be a good idea to at least have 4K when 8K surveillance cameras are available currently. Please stop using 1080p, which is ancient, use at least 4K. Add a 180-degree view, 24/7 recording, 8MP, and 12MP for viewing fonts from far away in detail, color night vision, vandal-proof, the black plastic cover around the camera lens should color match the same white color so that it looks discreet and same for other colors. Ring and Google products need to improve dramatically.
Can I mount the RING with Velcro as opposed to drilling holes into my siding. I agree, the RING is the all-around best for the bucks. Thanks for the vid! 👍👍. SUBSCRIBED

Hey Dave, the only thing I can think of would be to delete the camera from the app and add it back again. This seems like an issue for the Ring support team.
I realised that when I see a live feed on my ring camera it records the feed and saves it in the history. On the google camera if I watch a live feed it won't save it in the history.. cant seem to find a setting to fix this...
Cameras only work on 2.4 and the routers now have 5g and sometimes the cable provider routers mess wirh function of cameras. There are no cameras that work with 5g so what router would you recommend do a video on that.
I thought you just have to set them up on 2.4 & then they just run off that w/o issue but I could be wrong. I have spectrums janky router that doesn't let us switch from 2.4 to 5.0 so I have to walk far enough away from where the equipment is when setting up any smart stuff on 2.4 frequency to kick in & it's been fine after that. Wonder if the cameras are different, I'll have to look into it. Although mine isms going a ways away from my equipment so I should be fine. As long as you can set up the dual frequencies & switch between them any routers should be fine. I'll have to look into if they have issues finding it after initial hookup. I've heard having your own equipment (router & modem) is best but just having your own router stabilizes the your internet is so much better.. Imagine that huh lol?!
We had ring and lived in A CITY during BLM. Ring was VERY selective about what it did and did not record. It was not reliable, and it would seem to NOT record depending on WHO it was looking at.. We will never use it again.
I’ve had ring for ever and now I have nest only because nest will record 24/7 morning times is amazing with nest however night time with ring is smashing lol 🤷🏽♀️ hey why have just one system when you can have 2 for $70 bucks😊
My indoor nest camera was absolute garbage. Bought one of their "high end" cameras. Never worked right, constantly needed restarts, would disappear from the google & nest app, and died after only a few years.
Ring have image distortion and Nest in battery is not optimal, you should test also wired. Even without spot light, you could try with normal light with motion detection, that would be interesting.
Ring upping their subscription fees without adding anything of value is why I am getting out of the Ring ecosystem. For 3 cameras I'd be paying $180/year. Switching to Google I will be paying $80. Ring just got greedy and I'm not contributing to that nonsense. Charging per device was always a shitty business model.
not sure that was of any real value. .as long as the intruder can be seen not sure that a picture-album quality really matters. the memory comment is helpful but gee, not why i would buy a security cam..
You could spend a hour going over the pros & cons of both apps ...but you just punted on it and then you just picked ring as the better app?? That is a red flag and I can't trust your review.

Hmm, that's an odd issue you're having with Wyze. I haven't seen that before.
@@SteveDOES yeah it's weird it's intermittent
@@pizzadave9812 did you fixed the issue or you switched to ring?
@@yojuanjose1 the Wyze cameras have been working flawlessly I did buy a ring stick up cam plugin and a battery one I've done a lot of testing I still have them anything with a battery works like crap just not dependable at all the ring has been good but it can't do half the stuff my wyze camera does. I think ring has a long way to go you can't beat the wyze cameras in price and performance. Always remember there is pros and cons to every system and don't just rely on one I've learned that over the years.
@@pizzadave9812 thank you for the feedback. I really appreciate it! Have a wonderful day!
Thanks Steve-good information.
I seriously need to get cameras set up. Nice comparison. : )
Oh really?? What system interests you the most?
Same here. Need to get outdoor cameras.
I currently have indoor YI cameras indoor (1 app), a ring doorbell (2nd app), kasa light switches (3rd app), nest thermostat (4th app) and more. Looking for something in one of these ecosystems so I don’t need to have another app.
What do you suggest @Steve DOES?
@@Alan-ee5qv if those are my options, go with Ring. They have one of the best apps.
@@SteveDOES thanks! Which ring would you recommend for outdoor? The stick up cam?
@@Alan-ee5qv if you don’t need the spotlight then the stick up cam is good.
I have ring doorbell thinking of getting the ring stick cam
I have 2 Nest IQ cams and have had the Nest app to monitor them.I just picked up the Nest Cam floodlight and find out this cam does not work on the Nest app, it only works on the Google home app and the layout/features of each app are different.
Very disappointing !!!
Ring and Google products need to improve dramatically.
any suggestions?
Ring looks better even during the day. Doesn't look washed out. Just brighter. You look more red in skin tone in the nest.
What about the battery ? I just don’t want to change the battery every week.
Can I mount the RING with Velcro as opposed to drilling holes into my siding. I agree, the RING is the all-around best for the bucks. Thanks for the vid! 👍👍. SUBSCRIBED
Does anyone know of a good wireless 24 hour security camera? These cameras don’t seem to have the resolution to see licence plates etc.
You need a license plate reader camera for that
Steve I need your help I sent you a message a little while ago about my ring camera and the playback mode I have people in the video for a couple seconds and then they disappear for four five seconds and then reappear what can I do to fix this problem I have full signal internet's working good the only thing running on the Wi-Fi is the cameras any suggestions thank you
Hey Dave, the only thing I can think of would be to delete the camera from the app and add it back again. This seems like an issue for the Ring support team.
@@SteveDOES thank you Steve I love your channel you do a great job lots of information for everybody. Have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year
@@pizzadave9812 Thanks Dave, happy to Help! Merry Christmas!
Definitely ring as they have full home security system under one app.
Which famed a has better videoing. The ring miss footing when the camera snakes a video. Working. A few minutes the camera won't record
i actually like the ring's brighter colors in the daytime since it seem to be detecting movements better.
Is it just me or night vision, Ring had an advantage that lights were on in the yard and behind the gate ?
We had ring and lived in A CITY during BLM. Ring was VERY selective about what it did and did not record. It was not reliable, and it would seem to NOT record depending on WHO it was looking at.. We will never use it again.
Is it possible to connect the Ring Camera without having Alexa?
I like the ring camera better, I wish it had better zoom quality.
I’ve had ring for ever and now I have nest only because nest will record 24/7 morning times is amazing with nest however night time with ring is smashing lol 🤷🏽♀️ hey why have just one system when you can have 2 for $70 bucks😊
Compare these to the noorio
Always give models and costs. Maybe I missed that?
My indoor nest camera was absolute garbage. Bought one of their "high end" cameras. Never worked right, constantly needed restarts, would disappear from the google & nest app, and died after only a few years.
There’s a reason battery powered cameras are “event based” and don’t record 24/7…..,
Ring have image distortion and Nest in battery is not optimal, you should test also wired. Even without spot light, you could try with normal light with motion detection, that would be interesting.
Sing sing or show us your RING....We've seen your RING so sing sing sing.......Thanks for the review ;)
I will pick Ring camera
Nest has better dynamic range
I have and like Ring
Says ring is better but has google nest cams installed on his house
Ring seemed better to me
Ring upping their subscription fees without adding anything of value is why I am getting out of the Ring ecosystem. For 3 cameras I'd be paying $180/year. Switching to Google I will be paying $80. Ring just got greedy and I'm not contributing to that nonsense. Charging per device was always a shitty business model.
Ring!
not sure that was of any real value. .as long as the intruder can be seen not sure that a picture-album quality really matters. the memory comment is helpful but gee, not why i would buy a security cam..
Google app sucks big time. Nest app was good. Very confusing process with google home app. Ring wins because of easy to use app.
Ring devices failed more than Nest ones in my experience.
I like nest better
IMO - Ring is SO MUCH BETTER. Dont know what you are looking at.
I got the Google Nest cam for 30 bucks
My employer gave me 50$
wow how many adds did you put in this vid. This is ridiculous
Great question.. i just checked and there are 2 ads. Doesn't seem unreasonable. However, i've heard that YT could insert more ads if they want.
@@SteveDOES well, they did. Got 5 of them 🤣
You could spend a hour going over the pros & cons of both apps ...but you just punted on it and then you just picked ring as the better app??
That is a red flag and I can't trust your review.
.I love technology too but it ain't free and stocks are one way to make money
.,,AMAZON:
Yep, I bought a ton on the dip. It's getting cheaper relative to its current earnings (half compared to last year).
...With the Delta virus coming at full speed ahead, pandemic sales will make a comeback.
Amazon's not going anywhere so I know that eventually it will come back.
Fidelity considers Amazon as a large growth company (probably because as big as it is, it still only has 7% of the retail market)
buying via Amazon Smile donations donates some money to my favorite charity too!
Get on board or be runover, it's up to you.
RING is trash. Its always sleeping on the job. NEST IS KING. NEST 24/7 recording is a no brainer
True, that scrolling rewind nest has is the best.
Poor opinion on your part, the nest app is excellent and so is the camera. The ring camera and app are the worst!
Also Google’s App is changing, and it is a lot better.
Looks like I made a good decision with google eco system
Start your own channel. 🤷🏻♂️
The customer service is trash and the cameras always glitch they always turn off and never record
No ring is better Who ever said ring is bad and you’re trash
