Did you notice that John Deacon plays double bass. For the song "39", Brian May had jokingly asked him to play double bass, but a few days later he found Deacon in the studio with the instrument. Deacy played the double bass like a pro. No band can compete with Queen's Mountain of Talent.
@@susanp.7954Totally agree. Great bassist, songwriter, sorely underrated musician, business man (yep, he saved Queen from the clutches of music industry sharks), electronics inventor, creative genius, and family man. I hope and pray John is living a happy life with family. ❤
Thank you for giving John Deacon the credit he so well deserved! They were so fabulous separately and together. I personally am in love with Roger❤ ...can't help it😊
My favorite Queen song. It always brings a tear to my eye. An unparalleled composition. Thanks for listening to the song. And for your appreciation of Queen. We all miss Freddie.
This is one of Brian's finest works. Queen was not only a bunch of great musicians, there was 1 exceptional and 2 excellent singers in the band and they all have got the possibility to show their vocals.
With the orchestra, choir, Brian actually singing the song aswell as playing the guitar! It was amazing to see John Deacon playing the cello too. It really was incredible to listen & see such an amazing mesmerizing song. It will never be forgotten!!!!!
Queen #1, no way any other group or person tops them. I’ve been around a long time, and I’ve ever encountered any others who did so well consistently … the greatest of the great.
Brian wrote this song for the Queen Soundtrack for the movie Highlander. I love this song. Both Brian and Roger are lead vocalists in their solo careers, before, during and after Queen but when you have Freddie, you might as well use him. If you want to hear Brian sing from the heart, listen to Brian's version of "Too Much Love Will Kill You." Queen did this song too, but the song is about Brian's life and it really comes through in his vocals. Who Wants To Live Forever may not have been released in the US as a single because of some sort of copyright with the movie. The main character in Highlander is immortal and he has had to watch all of the people he loved age and pass on. He meets another woman and is struggling with whether or not to get involved because he knows he will have to see her die also. That is the part of the story that inspired Brian to write this song.
The whole soundtrack of "Highlander" is better than most soundtracks. I have a soft spot for "Flash Gordon" but it can't hold a candle to Highlander. In general, a bad day from Queen is still better than most days from other bands.
Fun fact: I’ve read that the reason Roger is not in a suit or tux, like his 3 band mates, is cuz he got stuck in traffic and was really late to the taping, and as soon as he got to the venue, they rushed him into the set and started filming without allowing him time to change his clothes. Not sure if that’s true but it’s a cool story! I absolutely love this song and the video; truly a masterpiece. But I agree with other people who say that you should react to a live version of this song; both the Budapest and Wembley concert versions are terrific!
Hands down a beautiful power ballet. Chills Chills Chills!!!! John Deacon was playing the big WHITE BASS with the red jacket on. ❤❤❤❤❤ RIP FREDDIE MERCURY 11/24/1991 1946-1991 45 YRS
Great reaction! Thank you for taking the time to listen to this fantastic song. You might want to try "It's Late" and "The Prophet's Song". Also might want to try "March of the Black Queen". You really need to try the live version of this song at either Budapest or Wembley. Also need to listen to "Teo Toriatte" and hear Queen sing in Japanese.
Teo Toriatte please. It will blow you away that Queen could write lyrics and sing in both English and Japanese. It’s basically a gift to the Japanese people who welcomed and adored Queen. The song was played at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. It was also the song to a 2011 compilation LP, “Songs for Japan,” issued following the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Tohoku, Japan. Teo Torriate in Japanese means “let us cling together”….something mankind needs today. I guarantee you will not be disappointed and might even shed a tear. ❤
I forgot to mention in my comment (see below) that John "Deaky" Deacon appears in the video wearing a red jacket playing the upright string bass...Deaky plays many instruments including this huge bass and the electric piano.
This was my first real exposure to Queen - hadn't really known them before going to see Highlander as a teen in the 80s in the theatres, and this song echoing through the theatre and me thinking this song was incredible! And later learned it was Queen.
Double shout out to Brian because it was his 76th birthday two days ago! He was also the writer of this song, which is probably why he is featured so heavily in the track and the video. This song was part of the Highlander movie soundtrack, written entirely by Queen, and this song in particular featured heavily in the movie.
This song is definitely a Queenie favorite! Written by Brian for the Highlander movie soundtrack! 🎥 🍿 Brian also wrote GIMME THE PRIZE .. PRINCES OF THE UNIVERSE (Freddie) .. A KIND OF MAGIC & DON’T LOSE YOUR HEAD (Roger) .. ONE YEAR OF LOVE (John). 💝✨
If you want to hear more lead vocals by Brian May, react to "Good Company" and " '39" (both from the "A Night At the Opera" album). The song, "Good Company", is interesting in that Brian simulates a Dixieland band using his guitar; it's extremely creative.
Thanks so much for reacting to this absolute masterpiece written by Sir Brian May (he just celebrated his birthday...76 and is still going strong as ever🎸!!) Do yourself a HUGE favor and, even if you don't react to it, just listen to this song LIVE in Budapest, 1986. The way this band adapted the song to the stage is beyond INCREDIBLE. I swear it will AMAZE you. I'm loving your reactions...you've been soooo surprised at all the songs the fantastic bands of the 70s/80s/90s wrote and performed. I'm soooo pleased that you are listening to all of it and VERY happy that you came back to listen again to QUEEN with Freddie - my fav for 50 years. Thanks!!
You should watch the Live at Wembley version. Freddie sings all the lead, and absolutely kills it, especially when he comes back in after the solo. It's almost scary just how powerful he sings those words.
If you can bear it, another great "Brian singing" song is "No One But You (Only The Good Die Young)" which is the band's tribute to Freddie, written by Brian. Tears.
I like your reactions because you are so aware of the other members of the band. Many reactors focus entirely on Freddie, understandably, but the band was a collection of geniuses who found each other and each member played an integral part. If you want to hear Roger and Brian sing, there is a song called 'Let Me Live' where Freddie sings the first verse, Roger the second and Brian the third. And if you feel up to it... a bit of a tear jerker, "No One But You" The last one highly recommended.
You need to listen to the song that Brian May and Roger Taylor sang as a tribute to Freddie after he passed away. They take turns singing lead and you can really see that both have great voices. The song is "No One But You" It's beautiful and sad.
I absolutely love Freddie's voice. His distinctive sound....a cushion for my ears!!!!!..... beautiful. Can you imagine the songs and music that could have been made had Freddie still been here!! I miss than man so much. 😢..I still cannot believe he would be gone from this world 32 years this year in November.
Watch this song performed live at Wembley 1986. When queen performed this song live in concert, Freddie sings all of it. Please react to the live performance.
Seal sings this at the "Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert". Roger tries hard not to cry during the performance. Also George Michael was incredible singing "Somebody To Love".
Thank you for this reaction, one of my all time favourites! Pls do Brian singing “Too much love will kill you” it’s heartbreakingly beautiful, Brian wrote it about the break up of his 1st marriage & you can really hear the pain in his voice! Love from Australia 🇦🇺
First time I listened /saw this was hurt because it was Brian singing...then Freddie came to us. Brian wrote the beautiful song. In the movie, Freddie sings the entire thing. Powerful. Brian's voice is okay but . . . Freddie is the lead singer for a reason.
Some Brian lead singing Queen songs: '39, Some Day One Day, Sleeping on the Sidewalk, Sail Away Sweet Sister, Leaving Home Ain't Easy, Good Company, She Makes Me (Stormtrooper in Stilettos), Long Away.
Did you watch The world that we created, was done at end of live aid. Brian sings in their tribute to Freddie, Only the good die young. Brian wrote and sang. , To much love will kill you
Live in Budapest or Wembly - you'll marvel at both. From this same film came ONE YEAR OF LOVE (a soulful R&B song with just Freddie & John ). Only a Queen Official Lyric Video but with a WOW factor. For Brian, you have an assortments of songs with him as lead singer: 39, STORMTROOPERS IN STILLETTOS, LEAVING HOME AIN'T EASY, SOME DAY ONE DAY among them.
I DID tell you about this! LOL This is easily in my Top 3 Queen songs. Brian saw clips of the movie and wrote the song in the car on the way home. Two other songs from the soundtrack I love are Princes of the Universe (a banger written by Freddie) and the beautiful One Year of Love (written by John). Another song that Brian leads is "39" on the official video. Freddie also sang lead sometimes. If you didn't know it was Queen, you would NEVER guess.
i agree about Freddies voice, but i have to admit that Alan Lambert is right there with him. Listen to isle of wight festival 2016 and Alan singing the same song. OMG
As Queen was involved in the making of Bo Rhap, i think you can assume its based on truth, just in a different order. Brian May said it is accurate in facts.
The last Queen recording - Mother Love. Brian has to finish the song. Killer Queen/I Love My Car (live)….Rodger’s vocals will blow your mind! It took all 4 Members to make Queen Great!
SUGGESTIONS… Since you liked “Somebody To Love” so much, you REEAALLYYY need to also see the same song performed at: MILTON KEYNES BOWL IN 1982💕 (The Milton Keynes rendition is the one that Queen put in their official compilation of Best Live Performances… EVERY reactor who’s watched it, has actually said they like it even BETTER than Montreal because - while the Montreal performance is perfect - the Milton Keynes rendition is PASSIONATE. (And it’s FUN. And, Freddie’s vocals are UNbelievable!) To hear ALL THREE guys (Fred, Roger & Brian) sing lead: “LET ME LIVE”. (Very “Gospel”… each guy sings a verse!)
You need to watch the Film Highlander and see the death scene of the Highlanders wife with this playing in the background. You will get the real meaning if "when love must die"
For additional Brian Brilliance check out ‘39’ off ‘A night at the Opera’. It’s a folk tune about time travel. It highlights his interest in space and astrophysics.
3 songs for you: One Vision, Death on Two Legs and the most emotional one of all, No one but you (only the good die young). One from Freddie alone: Time...
Thanks, MMB - yep, Brian started it.. but when Freddie took over the vocals, it was really great.. they actually shared the lead vocals, as you will see.... (Brian wrote the song...and Freddie mostly performed it live...) I have been in love with Brian FOREVER - lol...(p.s. Freddie is "top TEN"... I think the more you will hear.. you might move him up...lol_)
The boys choir that you saw in the video and that you said at the end came in and, " ...sounded incredible " was only for show for the music video. The " choir " you hear was Freddie, Brian and Roger.... period. They just recorded their voices over and over until it was enough voices to SOUND like enough voices of a choir....just like they did on almost all Queen's songs over their whole career. Yep.
Thank you for this fantastic reaction to a gorgeous song. I think the best live version of this tune is at the Friday, July 11,1986 Wembley concert, followed by the Budapest show. For another Brian May vocal performance, check out Too Much Love Will Kill You at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. It is amazing!
John, Brian and Freddie all sang alot of songs. Look up the songs he sang and what John sang. They could all sing lead if the wanted. But Freddie was Freddie. Lol
You must mean ROGER, because John didn’t ever sing any lead vocals… in fact, he hardly ever even did any backing (he only did a bit in live performances, with his mic turned wayyyy down. He didn’t like his own singing voice)
Freddie sang lead on the vast majority of their songs. It shows pretty great humility for him to take a back seat and let Brian, who wrote the song, to sing the entire first verse on his own. Usually it was Roger, the drummer, who did the majority of the backup vocals, including the higher notes, in Queen’s songs. The result was a masterpiece that really works in the context of the movie The Highlander. The film is cheesy and very 80s, but very awesome and the soundtrack is incredible. Gimme The Prize might be the most badass metal theme for a villain I’ve ever heard, especially how it’s introduced in the film. And Don’t Lose Your Head is used so memorably as well. The villain goes on a joyride with an old lady. It must have freaked audiences out in 1986.
In concert yes it was Roger who was far more prominent in backing vocals, when Brian joined in his voice didn't stand out/ hard to hear the high notes that stood out were normally Roger on tracks though, all three, Roger, Freddie and Brian did backing vocals/ harmonies but on quite a few of Freddies he would do his own layered harmonies
If you look closely on the videos you will see Brian singing all the time - all the harmonies are sung by Roger and Brian - a trademark for Queen - but it is hard to hear Brians voice as it is lower and warmer than the others.
@@anne-mariesindruprix4792 I still don't know if you're talking about live or studio studio tracks, Brian Roger and Freddie did the backing vocals/ harmonies but on quite a few of Freddies songs it was just him or mainly him doing the harmonies
@@anne-mariesindruprix4792 if you mean official music videos, most of them were lip synced to the track so the video may be misleading it was definatly all three on most or just Freddie it's on the detail section for songs ' personal' but the band have also discussed it in generally and particular songs
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND 39 OR SAIL AWAY SWEET SISTER (BRIAN SINGS LEAD HERE) AND I ALSO HIGHLY RECOMMEND IM IN LOVE WITH MY CAR OR ROCK IT (PRIME JIVE) (ROGER SINGS LEAD HERE)
I can’t add anything to your wonderful reaction. Needless to say this song gets me in the heart.… and all Queenies I’m sure. Think I’ll watch Highlander tonight just so I can hear the fabulous soundtrack again 😊 🥰 TY for this 💛
Well. Now you know what to do next?! Watch Highlander. The whole movie soundtrack was done by Queen, Sean Connery is in it(Another GOAT)& I love the movie, just plain& simple.
@@bluebell3720 He has gone back in and remixed his albums that have been out of print for a while and done stuff he wanted to do at the time but couldn't. There are unheard tracks as well. Live at the Brixton Academy could be next. Brian was also talking about doing a proper Highlander album which was not done at the time.
I was just singing this song in my head. It's so poignant and thought provoking. My motto is "If you love forever you live forever", it may not always be recipercated fully, but as long as I give Iam never disappointed. 🤟🤘
I've watched many of your videos and I agree with you on most of them. You, in my opinion, are the best critic out there. Your taste in music seems to be the same as mine. Right now Home Free is my favorite group, from the past, it would be hard to name a favorite. There was/is so much great talent out there and too much of it not promoted enough. You must mean ROGER, because John didn’t ever sing any lead vocals… in fact, he hardly ever even did any backing (he only did a bit in live performances, with his mic turned wayyyy down. He didn’t like his own singing voice)
you need to listen to brian and roger, john sing Only the good die young. Gorgeous.
This is one of my absolute favorite songs of all time
Freddie sang lead on the vast majority of their songs.
In concert yes it was Roger who was far more prominent in backing vocals, when Brian joined in his voice didn't stand out/ hard to hear
the high notes that stood out were normally Roger
on tracks though, all three, Roger, Freddie and Brian did backing vocals/ harmonies
but on quite a few of Freddies he would do his own layered harmonies
If you look closely on the videos you will see Brian singing all the time - all the harmonies are sung by Roger and Brian - a trademark for Queen - but it is hard to hear Brians voice as it is lower and warmer than the others.

I still don't know if you're talking about live or studio
studio tracks, Brian Roger and Freddie did the backing vocals/ harmonies
but on quite a few of Freddies songs it was just him or mainly him doing the harmonies
@@anne-mariesindruprix4792
if you mean official music videos, most of them were lip synced to the track
so the video may be misleading
it was definatly all three on most or just Freddie
it's on the detail section for songs ' personal' but the band have also discussed it in generally and particular songs
You should hear this live at Wembley. Just amazing!
Great song. Loved your reaction ❤
It was Brian's birthday yesterday ❤
Brian and Roger both have solo albums out.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND 39 OR SAIL AWAY SWEET SISTER (BRIAN SINGS LEAD HERE)
AND I ALSO HIGHLY RECOMMEND IM IN LOVE WITH MY CAR OR ROCK IT (PRIME JIVE) (ROGER SINGS LEAD HERE)
I can’t add anything to your wonderful reaction. Needless to say this song gets me in the heart.… and all Queenies I’m sure. Think I’ll watch Highlander tonight just so I can hear the fabulous soundtrack again 😊 🥰 TY for this 💛
Their live performance is amazing!!
It's called "euphoria" ! RIP Freddie
Excellent review.
This makes me cry every. Damn. Time.
Wow, have never seen this video of this song. ❤❤ thanks. 😅
This song always makes me cry.
All brians songs are moving and deep. They are everyone of them talented in many ways. Did you notice John Deakin playing the Double Base?
Well. Now you know what to do next?! Watch Highlander. The whole movie soundtrack was done by Queen, Sean Connery is in it(Another GOAT)& I love the movie, just plain& simple.
Did you see Deaky playing that huge Base? Brian was the main singer in the band smile and the name was changed to Queen when Freddie joined.
Brian has just released "Star Fleet" with Eddie Van Halen, great track
I'm surprised he hasn't made anything new only re released the three works he had done previously
On every Queen album from 1973 till 1980 Brian May and Roger Taylor sing at least one of their own songs.
In 2002, Michael Kamen took part in the Concert for George (Harrison) as strings conductor.
This piece is beautiful even in the concert setting. It's hard to believe that it could sound this good in concert...but it does!
