Using MASKS in Procreate - Alpha Lock, Clipping Mask & Layer Mask (2020)

Using masks in procreate isn't all that hard, but can sometimes be a hint confusing. In this video I will quickly walk you through all 3 different type of masks you can use in Procreate: Alpha lock, clipping masks and layer masks.
There some similarities between all three masks but they are indeed quite different. The one thing they do have in common is the ability to contain you drawing marks, or colors in specific shape. I’m still new to procreate and when I try to add shadows/highlights my black outline changes to whatever color I’m using to add the shadows/highlights. Why is that? Is there something I’m doing wrong?

Technically u can alpha lock the current layer, then add a new layer and colour on that new layer.....

How did you get your initial drawing to be so neat and crisp? It looks like you use the pen tool, but I know procreate doesn’t have that.

Unfortunately not in the same layer like Illustrator. That works with vector, but when working with pixels in Procreate you have to make sure each object is on its own layer, and then you can move it above or below by just moving the layers. Hope that helps!

How do you alpha lock the background.

You can't alpha lock the background unless you filled it with color. But then I don't know why you would do it at all. Only use alpha lock to lock specific pixels and not the entire layer. Hope that helps!
