    There is really no need to change such an EXCELLENT speaker as the V Type, I think it truly is a modern classic!

      Well, later after the review, I DID change the speaker back to the original as supplied - The V-Type! Personally I found the 'new' Celestion G12-75 sounded very different to the ones I have in the Marshall cabs, so back went the original and its still like that today. But for me it was an interesting exercise for sure. Thanks for watching...

      @@tonymckenzieofficial keep in mind that older speakers bear a lot of abuse, playing, humidity/ temperature changes so they lose their stiffness and harshness over time!
      Your review was great!
      (The V type is a great speaker, not to mention its price... I also like T75s and anything holds its place in the right application at the end of the day...)
      Cheers, keep on rocking and may god bless you and all!!!

      I know this is about a few years late but the cabinet makes a huge difference and for sure those new China G12-75 are going to sound brighter and stiffer among other nuances. For rock and certainly traditional Metal, I am really surprised how well they pair with the V series. With a mic on each, it’s like having two complementary guitars at once. Almost like overdubs when tracking, but at a distance they blend well. I’m certainly loading a 4x12 or 2x12 with Made in China V- series and G12-75 of which I was not a huge fan of by itself. In a mix is a whole different thing.

      No problem ... Ultimately later I refitted the V-Type! The G-1275 was not really like the ones I have in the studio (4x12) so out it came later. Tanks for the post on how you mix the two and with which cabs etc... take note potential users... and thanks for watching.

    They both mixing quite well in my Marshall 1960 cab. Quite similar but V type adds some upper mids where T-75 have a bit more low end. In my opinion they perfectly complement each other, without loosing their character. Nice playing!

      The G12T seemed just a bit more toppy. Not very noticeable, but when you're playing it is.... just as you said. After, when listening I would have said it's the same, but the G12T was just a little bit brighter. I used to have some eminence speakers many years ago and those really are very well made speakers. These days I use those Marshall 1960A cabs and a couple of other Marshall cabs with differing speakers in there as I don't play out any more. I really like those cabs, that purportedly have G12T's in there! But I think my 4x12's probably have older versions and those tend to sound good with all my amps. But the V-Type I liked especially in that little Marshall - it seems just right. Stay safe.

    G12T-75 all the way. It really is the sound of Marshall/rock. It has been recorded more than any other speaker out there over the years. So for me...it is familiar. It feels and sounds right. Especially in a 4x12.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  3 роки тому +2

      I know what you mean - and I'm surrounded in that room with at least FIVE x 4x12 Marshall cabs with G12T-75 watters in them. Some of the best sounding speakers and cabs out there. Its why I bought this one under review for the little 1x12. However, it does sound different in reality to the ones in the studio, and of the two the V-Type actually sounded nearer the G12T in the 4x12 cabs! Maybe its more settling in, or maybe because the new one is Made in China? who knows... but it certainly was an interesting little exercise. Stay safe.

    I have to go with the V Type. Sounds more smoother and nicer to my ears. The Chinese bit doesn’t worry me too much as I’m sure Celestion keeps an eye on their quality if they want to keep charging what they do for speakers. Lol. Great playing by the way.

    I think the G12T 75's sound a little bit more high end, but in a balanced, not too bright good way, and the "V" thype speaker sounded darker and flatter.Maybe I'm biased, having used G12T75's for years, but I feel they are a better all round speaker, and still good for vintage tones.

      Agreed. But the GT12's I have throughout the studio sound less bright here... those are older units though. I refitted the V Type eventually as it suited the amp better I thought in the end. Thanks for the info and stay safe.

    I think they both sound very good and nice playing as well. You rock Tony!! I went to buy a pack of socks a few weeks ago and I picked them up and made in China, so I started looking at all the different brands - all made somewhere else, Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, etc. finally I found one and only one brand of (made in the USA). They were Hanes, so I purchased them, feeling patriotic that I had done the right thing. Well let me tell you, they were the worst socks I have ever owned. I am a Union millwright, and take pride in my work- but let me tell ya (made in the USA) ain’t what it used to be.

      Ah Haynes.... Tee-shirts in Florida :) I have bought many when on vacation. Here in the UK the industry also moved to either India or the Far East. Cities built on clothing making don't have any now... places like Leicester in the UK. I used to supply wide format pen plotters to those companies, but today? No companies and frankly no plotter sales. Well, you can't blame the Far East for badly made products on local turf! Haynes were pretty good when I was buying them some years ago. The biggest problem that I see though is pricing. Even in what I do today, Far East product is priced to close down own turf manufacturing, and on many occasions I see (in my day job) that those particular Far East companies that are in my business sector simply do not care about standards, safety and that sort of thing whereas all the home turf makers have to abide by the rules or be closed by the government. It's generally an unfair playing field. Don't get me wrong, I am not biased against China and I sell Chinese made products every day. But the west will surely pay in the long run with jobs. FYI I have been involved with the Far East since 1984 and have been there very many times. Some of the gear is excellent, but some of it is not... I guess like anywhere. These speakers sound good, but I was rather surprised that the Chinese now own Celestion :( Stay safe.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  4 роки тому

      The problem is though, that in general (I would say) that the public when they set out to buy things (and I'm included along with most people) they often don't think about where something is from... they might buy from a favourite maker (as I did in this case) or some other equally compelling reason. The real fix of course, is that governments resolve these issues because generally ordinary people will not... no matter what they say. Today unfortunately (or fortunately depending on the view point) I could say that Far East product IS the norm... and has been for some years. And it's not all bad gear... some is and some is not. I guess we're driven to origin by many household 'brands' that want to increase their margin (or to try and compete with Chinese products) and might not otherwise care either way. In any case, I 'get it' and know what you're saying for sure. Stay safe.

      Well I have always thought that to mislead people or tell half the truth as many do is not for me. In fact in 2009 I had enough of listening to basically sales videos that I started to make my own. There have been a number of occasions when I have seen equipment that is less than perfect (although my money to buy it was perfect) and I have put that on here. Then you get threatened and all sorts for speaking what is plainly in the video review to see. Some of the 'fan boys' do no service to the makers they claim to support by condoning basically bad workmanship or junk. That is simply how it all is today and sad that real reviews where someone bought the gear and reviewed it as truthfully as they can get trodden down. But most of the people out there that know what they have seen get the picture I'm sure. It's certainly not like it used to be... but we only have to watch the news for all of that. Thanks.

      Well thank you Stephen and well spotted because you're right I do use a 'weird' playing technique for tapping in particular. I never did make a video about how I do it because (to be honest) while there are certain things that I do, once I get going with it, the thing sort of goes in to an 'auto' mode where I don't really have to think about where my tapping finger goes... a bit hard to describe. But maybe I'll get to a video about it, expect only half the answer :) Hey thanks for watching and those kind words.

      Great... ha tell me what I'm doing :) One thing you might note is that when I use my right hand the theory goes that you tap the string and pull it sideways to make the string vibe etc. but I tend not to do that as I just hit the string. It can sound a bit strange by itself, but over the years you'll see on the videos that I use a wah and that gives extra drive to make it all work in my sad case :) Thanks.

    I like the V Type. It handles higher gain a bit better than the Vintage 30 {that I absolutely love} and also exhibits a bit tighter bottom as well. The V Type also comes in a NEO version that is over 6lbs lighter than the Vintage 30. Good news for us "Vintage" older chaps when you can lighten your 4x12 by 24.5 lbs or want a super compact and light 1x12 with enough power handling for a legit 50 watter.

    Nice. I like your playing in this video. I really need to start tapping, it's one of those techniques that I have never really made a concentrated effort on, you make me want to give it another go :). As for the speakers. It's hard to say. I think they probably both need some time to break in and loosen up a bit. The times I've bought a new combo amp or speaker. It's taken a few days to get some of the harshness out and the transitions through the mids to smooth out a bit.
    I do quite like the new V Types. I heard they are modeled on the Vintage 30 with the top end smoothed out slightly. I have to say, I think I preferred the V type in this demo. How much of that was just the fresh speaker being a bit tight and needing time to get broken in though.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  4 роки тому +1

      Ha tapping... now there's a story. I might make a video about that because what I do is not tapping like everyone does really. It's because I can't do that any other way... and I blame my silly learning time (just after 1997) after the last band I was in ceased to be. Anyway I won't spoil it... but I'll probably make that video... its interesting probably because it's not what people do in the way I do. Maybe next weekend :). I think you are right on the V-Type result. It is better suited to the inclusion of that wah style - the GT12T seems a bit more top end and that makes the feel a bit funny. I used to have V30's (probably still have somewhere in here?) and those used to 'break up' sort of Hendrix style (you might know what I mean) but the V-Type I don't think does that... but then again it was running 5 watts :) not 100 watts x three :). The V-Type has it! Stay safe.

      The G12T seemed very slightly more 'toppy' on the comparison to me. But different guys on here like different speakers - some like the V-Type and some the G12T. I bought the G12T because it will be inside some of those cabs in my studio and is a tried and trusted speaker model, but the V-Type on reflection (in a 1x12 and at 5 watts!) suited what I was playing I thought. They both performed of course, and the choice for anyone will be the style you play, the tones you like and how that speaker inspires you not form just the tone, but from the 'feel' when playing too. At least that's my excuse :). And yes be careful too...

I have to say I have not really experimented much with speakers... one reason is that I have about 5 4x12 Marshall cabs with the T12T75's in and they are old so likely UK made. I bought this G12 simply because I thought the V Type sounded a bit off and wanted to 'get back' to what I knew. In came the Chinese one. But after this video review after a week I actually refitted the V Type as I think it was better (less toppy) than the G12. I never said that on camera because the video was already completed. But it is an interesting thing because speakers are as major as you can get really - especially real ones :) I could try this but currently time is against me and the studio is being rearranged and added to which will make it hard to do the audio stuff until they are finished... then we have to lay out the whole thing... recording and video with new network for the audio and much more. Sounds like an excuse :) but really it is not... I'll bear this in mind and after the furor I might try to do it... if you do then still come back and tell me your thoughts too. and thanks for that...

    The original made in UK Celestion G12T-75 were made for Metal/Speed Metal/Power Metal. The 5W increase was to handle the boost/Overdrive/Tube Screamer pedals in front of the JCM800, right? Subsequently, they came stock in the 1960A/1960B cabs for the JCM900 & Silver Jubilee stack cabs. To this day, the 1960B (flat face/bottom stack) cab loaded with G12T-75 is the best Marshall cab I've ever heard for Metal. Wooo! Great playing there! The difference in tones is subtle in lead, I like the T75 better, just because the mids are more focused, with fewer unpleasant highs peaks. That's what I heard on my monitors. Which one did you keep in the end?

      Thanks for the info and for watching... Ultimately I refitted the V Type. The G12T-75 was not really like the ones in my 1960a cabs (I have had them a very long time) and for this particular setup the V-Type came out on top (after the video by a few months). Thanks for the kind words and for watching.

    I like the G12T-75 best. I made the Cab for my Marshall amp and I used two G12M-70 16 Ohm "Made in England" in a 9 Cubic Feet cab. They sound almost like the G12T-70, good bass and aggressive highs. The G12T is home in a Marshall dual or quad cab. Good review and sound demo. Thanks.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  4 роки тому

      Yes in a 4x12 cab maybe with the 'made in England' ones. Some say it makes no difference... but somehow I seem to have them in the studio in my 4x12 cabs and they sound very good. But in this 1x12 I do think the V-Type was better for the style I played... basically because the G12T is slightly more toppy and I don't need that when I use the wah to drive the amp as I did. Thanks for watching Michel and stay safe.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  4 роки тому

      No they don't. I think you are right about the brightness. You probably know I use the wah to achieve extra drive when I play that style, and the G12T-75 has a slightly different 'feel' which is so critical when I play that style. Strangely, I am surrounded by 4x12 cabs with generally the G12T-75 speakers in them with the odd exception. But I think those in my 4x12 Marshall cabs are probably made in the UK as I have had those cabs for years. It might not actually be that... maybe the 4x12 just has a different vibe (it does :) but I did notice a difference marginally. The 'feel' was far more important to that track really as it tends to be a pretty intense style for me to play... I can even say that a flat battery in the wah affects it because of a specific sustain 'feel' and anything lacking there stops me getting the style from working. It is a bit odd, but ha that's just me... odd! :) Stay safe there...

      I own a V-Type, which I put into a Fender Supersonic 22 to tame the lows. The stock speaker arrived blown. I'm satisfied with it.
      The T75 sounds brighter here. When it breaks in it might change a little. It's kinda difficult to make a choice with the wah going, but either one would work for me in the right context.

      That's a great post and gives other guys another opinion about these particular speakers - always love to see someone that loves the stuff and tells how it all worked out for themselves. In many ways that is the same as what I do - and while they are all just opinions they are opinions from owners of the gear... that's far different than someone just telling you an opinion without foundation... thanks for posting this comment and I know that over time it will influence guys at the very least to consider these speakers. Hello Tony, I found the G12T sounds brighter, crisper high end-top end. The V speaker has what I call the "paper" sound in the mid range. Sorry to say not my favorite sound. I prefer the brighter sound. I run a pair of G12 T 100's in an old Ampeg cabinet powered by a 78 Marshall JMP.

      Ah but are the G12T's you have older ones? I think that does matter a little. I play a lot of wah pedal... and the G12T (particularly in this 1x12 cabinet) took the top end just a tad too far for me, where the V-Type seemed to handle that a bit better. I have many G12T in my Marshall cabs (1960a) and generally like those the best, but in that 1x12... I think that was the real difference. Thanks for the info Bill and interesting stuff. They are quite similar, maybe the G12T-75 is a touch brighter sounding. I use Vintage 30s and am pleased with them, the V type is meant to sound similar to a Vintage 30 with higher power handling. Celestion was bought out by a company in Hong Kong in 2014, now it operates as part of a group of companies, the headquarters is still in Ipswich but almost all production moved to China shortly after the takeover. Only very limited prestige models are still made in the UK.

      Sad about Celestion... sure they sounded OK to me, but to be honest it was not expected to see Celestion's 'made in China' stickers on there. I did think they were very similar also and to my burned out ears hardly worth the effort. I'll put the original back as it 'felt' different when I was playing and that has an effect on how I play. Hard to describe really. Thanks Rob for the info... it just shows that knowing such an iconic brand (as I did) means little to nothing really today as to who or what you are dealing with. Stay safe.

But in the case of this 1x12 cab as demonstrated I do think the V-Type (the first speaker) did sound better with the wah and my style of playing. Nice amps you have too... the 800 is timeless really and the DSL (similar to the TSL one of my favourite amps) is a standard too. They all sound good. Ha I just make noise too but who cares :) its the fact that I'm sure you like playing as much as I do that matters really. I had a neighbour a very long time ago that threw a milk bottle through our window! But I was loud back then... that Marshall head would have been very loud to cause him to do that.

That little bit of difference sort of makes it all feel so different. You might notice that on the V-Type speaker, I played better... the gear becomes more inspiring when it's exactly right for me and I tend to think about the music rather than the notes so to speak. The G12T will make eBay :). We're all OK here and have stayed home etc. But I am currently going to work to prepare for the start when staff come back in. So if they are all the same go and try and buy a 1970's G12H or 25w Greenback etc. and you might have a surprise at the price they go for. Same old everything like you said, but in reality they sound different? I get it of course on the comments - and neither do I want to pay double, but you don't always pay double, and from what I saw the UK made ones were not really very different price wise. Notice in this review how there was a difference in tone. Lastly later I refitted the V Type. And note that I had G12H fotted to no less than 5 4x12 Marshall cabs around the studio - and they all sound different to this example shown here. I later sold the G12H. Good post for sure, but many are also quite picky on the tone. I just know the ones in the Marshal 1960a or b cabs sound different and while my cabs are not 70's cabs or anything like that, I can bet those are UK made since he 80's and 90's and early 2000's. Thanks for the post and for watching.

      Well, I pointed out the MIC because to be honest (I'm old school) I thought Celestion were made in the UK... silly me! On this, just FYI I later did refit the V-Type back in to that cab because I thought the V-Type sounded just that bit nicer. Seemed like the G12T-75 was not like the ones I have in the studio (I have the older UK ones) that actually sound great... in Marshall 1960A cabs. I can only report what I hear and there can be many reasons of course... such as my Marshall cabs being used for years etc. it all counts I guess. But I was a little shocked by Chinese Celestion I must say. I bought the G12T-75 BECAUSE of the ones in my studio... it was a mistake for me and I sold it later. But an interesting video I thought and I was surprised that I refitted the V-Type :) (Ha I think also Chinese?) ... OMG not another woman... so many... so little time... Glad you liked the tapping and remember to crank it up when you watch it! Thanks for watching and stay safe.

    I have two v types in a blackstar artist 30 with 6l6 tubes. It’s oddly warm sounding , it did remind me of my 4x12 1960a can w the jvmhjs I have in terms of mid range cut and warmth butttt, there is this high end fizzy thing that I think is due to the v type. Off axis is alright but in front it’s just not enjoyable to me and I’m really trying to find speakers that can cut and don’t sound harsh in front. Iv thought of creamback 65s but heard they don’t cut well. Iv heard the creamback75s compares to eminecence cv75s and the cv 75s sound a tad warmer and much thicker. Not sure , I don’t know much about wiring new speakers myself so I’d have to pay every time I switch em out ontop of speakers purchases so idk what to do lol.

      They are all subjective really and what one guy likes the next will not... check the posts below. The general consensus is that (in this test) that the G12H is more toppy than the V Type. Remember these are both new speakers and fitted to a 1x12 cab. I have at lest 5 1960a cabs in my studio all full of the G12H and those (they are much older) sound really good to my ears no matter what amp I plug in. But in this test, I actually liked the V Type better (I did not believe I would say that) as it was just a but less toppy and when playing through that it just had a better feel and tone to me. I later refitted the V Type! But generally I like the G12H. I have some greenbacks fitted in a reissue Marshall cab from the factory also and that's cool for vintage amps but when you put modern high gain amps on there I tend to like those far less than the G12H. It's hard to really tell what works for someone and I think really best to try a particular speaker set if you can. I bought a few less than perfect ones over the years. Thanks for the post and stay safe too.

    Oh, common... again this topic? Made in China vs made in UK... Celestion stopped making their basic models in the UK way back sometimes around 2003. The only models being made in the UK are Alnico (Blue & Gold), and the Heritage and Creamback series. Mesa V30's are also made in the UK.
    Where they are made doesn't really matter. If the speaker specs is exactly the same, the location of manufacture won't matter much.
    Furthermore, If you make a phone call to the UK distributor of Celestion, you will find out that:
    - 80-90% of Celestions are assembled in China;
    - the cone & voice coil are made in England;
    - the viscosity and opacity of the wood pulp in the paper cone determines the sound;
    - the cones have ALWAYS been made by a small company - Kurt Mueller, who only make cones;
    - they use the same paper as it was in the 50s/60s;
    - there are no cones made in China.
    Also for those of you guys that are trying to compare China vs UK ones just by listening on youtube, please do know that it is very complicated to capture the true sound of a speaker, every mic will sound different and even tiny mic position adjustments will induce a huge difference in sound. You'd have to listen in the room PERSONALLY to make a true impression.
    And even if there may be differences in sound if you compare directly (China vs UK speakers), it is not to say that one sounds better or worse than another. For example, I do own an american made Electro-Voice Mesa Boogie Black Shadow and some chinese Celestion V30's, the V30 sounds far better to my taste and for my playing preferences. Also when comparing you have to play chords/riffs in order to make the difference more accentuated, soloing will sound alike give or take, which the comments of this video show.

      Hi Artur, on this occasion there is no argument? In fact BOTH speakers are Chinese, and I asked which one do you like the best of the two in this particular setup. Having said that, you will know that the Mesa Boogie speakers are made in Celestion in the UK and I doubt that Mesa buy more expensive speakers simply for the sake of it? The 'Heritage' speakers are also made in the UK. Other than that, well there is no 'argument'? I do think you have some very valid points and good info in this post too. But I don't think I have seen any comparisons of these two speakers (wherever they came from) that I showed in this way in this equipment... why? Because the amplifier and it's speaker cabinet are not yet released in the UK for probably 6-8 weeks... in fact that Marshall setup can't be bought right now from anywhere. The sounds ARE subjective for sure, and you are spot on with that, just read the entries below and I think it's about 50/50 which speaker sounds 'best'. Me? I refitted the V-Type as it was slightly less toppy than the G12T-75.
      The comments of this video DO NOT show that the 'soloing' sounds alike.. you are wrong on that point I'm afraid. Go back and reads them again, and if that does not convince you, my question asking which was better part way through the video shows data as an this, or that, result but averaged to 50/50.
      For me, the question of 'China' manufacturing goes way beyond that of simply buying a Chinese product. Currently, there are a substantial number of countries that could not buy at ANY PRICE PPE protection... why? Simple, because China bought it all up two months before it was needed every where else. That situation leaves external countries like yours and mine 'dependent' on China. Now then, you might find that's 'OK'... but throughout the world today it's a different place than what it was in January. And from what many leaders of countries are saying these days, you might find a resurgence over time of manufacturing in those countries and a move away from Chinese manufacturing. Somehow I doubt it will be just PPE, or Huawei or... well you name it. I know in some of the things I do that there are moves for manufacturing to other countries and those appeared even before the current situation - probably driven by President Trump and the well documented China trade wars going on. Little to do with speakers... but in a way, everything to do with the music business.
      Thanks Artur for you very interesting post and there's some great info in there to be had. Stay safe too!

      Indeed. And from my point of view I do feel that many (most) makers have a big hand in all of the origin thing. Whether they were 'greedy' and wanted bigger margins, or alternatively to compete with other brands who knows, but they are the guys that drove it all. And of course the consumer that generally only sees price as the criteria to buy. Ha really great how you used 'last century' and that sort of stuff in the comment :) I smiled of course. • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  4 роки тому

      I remember the 'Made in Japan' too. I started work at 15. One first job was to go to the 'stores' under instruction from my engineer and ask for a 'long weight'. Indeed I DID wait... about 30 minutes and then the penny dropped. A year or two later I had a little 50cc Suzuki motorbike that I had scraped and saved for seemed like forever. In any case, I was told to 'go and get a pair of 'footprints' from the same stores window. While I was collecting those, I spoke to George... he seemed like an 'old man' to this young man at the time. I happened to mention that I had bought a Suzuki. He immediately threw down the 'footprints' and walked off muttering. So the other guy came over and said... don't mention 'Japan' and Suzuki to George. Of course I had no clue, so I asked, why? The second guy chirped in and said that George had been captured in the war and was held by the Japanese. Then they told me the stores of how George was treated. For George it was as real as being there. For me? I loved that little Suzuki 50. Things certainly do change, and I'm sure there are not too many 'George's' left any more. But we might be going through a pandemic right now that has killed tens of thousands of people and I wonder if the remnants of this pandemic later could make many people take a view like a 'George'. Of course none of this relates to the Chinese people many of which are my friends, but rather to a political state CCP where ordinary people probably have little or no say. It's a sad fact of our times that something like this pandemic could have those sort of repercussions - especially at government levels. Now - just believe me, I am not really political, but rather reflective of that time standing at the stores window watching 'George' and wondering what it was all about... something I never saw in my lifetime thankfully. Who knows what the future brings in those respects. Off topic I know (or is it?) but that 'Made in Japan' comment made me immediately think of George, who will undoubtedly have passed on by now. I don't believe George would ever buy anything from Japan... ever.

I just bought a JVM410HJS back :) (The Satch version) they are now getting expensive and you don't see many for sale. I reviewed that amp 8 years ago! But watching it again recently, it was not really a 'great' review if adequate for the time. I later wrote a review on my site that surpassed the video by far. That amp has probably the best channel on ANY of the amps since the JCM800 (channel two red) and it was only ever to be a short run really. I did have two of the regular amp (JVM410H) and they were terrible - feedback (think squeal), no choke and many other short comings. The Satch amp even has a different board inside it.... while it looks 'the same' it is far and away better than the standard amp. That 'inside and out' review will surpass the 8 year old one substantially I'm sure and its an amp always worth looking at. Not sure if you played one of those Tommy, but if you get a chance try it channel 2 red. :) Yes stay safe there too...

    I'll say this as an American about China made music gear... The USA hasn't made good quality shit in a very long time. American workers do not take pride in their work anymore, and haven't in decades. Morale is low, and companies only give a shit about QUANTITY, not quality. They just pump stuff out quickly. The UK isn't much different. Good craftsmanship is hard to find in either place anymore. China has come a LONG ways in replicating things made in the USA and UK, and in a lot of cases, you can't tell the difference... In some cases, the China made stuff is better quality than their US counterparts. China made ripoffs of Ibanez and Gibson are a great example... A lot of them are better than the originals. Swap out a few cheap plastic parts and they're superior to the original. So, this being made in China doesn't matter to me. If it works well, then that's what matters to me.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  3 роки тому +1

      Well, I know that could be the case in many instances about the USA. However, it would clearly be wrong to 'tar' all USA products in that way as there are many fine companies out there that I deal with and have dealt with for a long time that make exceptional equipment. I won't name this company, but let me explain. I have dealt with a company from Seattle since 1991 and they make specialized equipment. In fact they made some of the best in that field that there is. Currently, they are really struggling to stay there. Why? Let me explain. Firstly, their products cost money - they are not cheap because they pay USA employees the going rate for the labor. They would have it no other way. Then they actually make the components that go in to their products with very few exceptions other than a couple of motors. So their equipment is not sold on the basis of being the cheapest. Those are facts - and since 1991 as I said I sold those products in the UK and Europe.
      So how is it today. I can tell you first hand. In come the Chinese makers who copied the designs. Then they made them with labor that costs a fraction of that of USA employees. Lastly, they made them 'down to a price'. Put them on well known shopping websites, sell direct, and for a very low cost (forget the warranty) and hey presto, they are putting out of business the innovators form the USA. There is no other way to look at that situation.
      As far as music gear goes, there are many companies 'ripping off' as you said, designs that belong to others and they simply do not care. In my own experience I have seen some real junk from China guising in the form of a number of so called 'copies, but they all remains illegal and generally a shadow of the real thing. But it all goes so much further than the music junk you mentioned. It goes to the heart of the western world. Costs in the west are substantially higher than what they are in the far east and that will remain so for many years. That is, unless tariffs are applied to 'level out' the playing field regarding the discrepancy of labor and other costs as I have explained.
      I don't come from the USA so I have no real 'axe to grind', but I would say this, if I was a USA born and bred citizen I can tell you that I would be standing up for my country and the companies that make equipment there because when they are gone, trust me on this, your income and livelihood will suffer in one way or another. And what about when you can no longer even afford that cheap junk we spoke about because of that situation? I'm pretty sure that you will then consider the facts... but then it's all too late. Do you really think that the far east care about the welfare of the people of a foreign country? They don't.
      Of course, that's just an opinion from someone not in the USA who has seen it all going on in a business environment since 1981. Tell me I'm wrong... many will, but there is no denying what I have seen with my own business experience for many years now and its getting worse. Thanks for your thought provoking post and actually I appreciate that. Stay safe.

      Some gear from China IS good.. like the PRS MT15 for example, but not everything is good is it. Celestion I note still DO make some speakers in the UK... and they are always higher cost and Celestion I'm sure suggest 'premium' product. They don't do that for no reason. This for example: celestion.com/product/g12m-50-hempback/ is made in the UK - ask yourself why if China is so great? China of course has a place, but it's certainly not the be all and end all of things for sure. Also remember this, my fave guitar is an Ibanez RG550LTD from about 98 or so, but for every 'brilliant' guitar like that I could show you about 30 that are less than average and some are absolute cr*p! I'm not anti Chinese at all, but don't think that everything coming from those regions is perfect. Lastly, I have a load of USA MADE guitars that are absolutely better than the far east stuff without doubt. If you want to see some visit my website at tonymckenzie.com and hey thanks for visiting.
