Idk about too much leaning on the credits thing. I think Nintendo was in pretty good with Ubisoft by the time the game launched to where they wouldn't have had to put them in the mainline credits if it was going to mean spoiling the surprise later. I'm sure they would've been willing to work something out. But when I think on it further, having Rayman as a stage element isn't much different than him being a spirit. He's not interactive in the slightest sense that would be considered representative of him existing in his own franchise, so not too farfetched
Respectfully, if Rayman even was revealed as a playable character, the problem with the whole thing would be on how they would make his amiibo since he has no arms or legs. Sure they could always use clear coloured limbs, but it would still look odd, and knowing what the smash community can be like (at least from my own experience) it wouldn't end well
