- Going on vacation and leaving your aquariums can be nerve-racking for many people. While setting up auto feeders or having a pet sitter is an option for some, in many situations for many people, that isn't an option. I left my aquariums alone for 9 days. What happened?

This is my biggest fear of caring for fish while I’m on vacation. Usually never gone for more than a week so it’s nice to know I shouldn’t be concerned.
I am away from home a couple weeks at the time very often. I have someone who feeds my fish every 2-3 days. I use mini paper muffin cups for feedings along with giving instructions for bottom feeder wafers. I've been doing this for a few years, and it works out well. during the times I'm gone, the fish get a bit less than I would feed them while home. I come home to decent water parameters and haven't lost a fish in a long time. I do leave a net and instructions to remove any dead fish. Fortunately that's not happened!

Nice. Thanks! We just got back from a week-long trip. My tanks are all heavily planted and I do very infrequent water changes, so my tanks have a fair amount of mulm on the bottoms of each tank. One of the tanks has a load of Kribensis fry along with their parents and a few other inhabitants. Because the tanks are loaded with plants, and well established, there are loads of micro-fauna providing a constant food source. And when I'm home watching my fish, they're constantly picking at what I'm thinking is both micro-flora and micro-fauna. With all this in mind, I'm less likely to be concerned with a multiple-week trip. Just my two cents. Thanks, Zenzo.

I have auto feeders on all my tanks since I am gone 3 weeks at a time.....😮 I'm glad I can definitely leave them alone for shorter periods w/o food.

Were you able to maintain your strict diet when surrounded by so much delicious baked goods and rich food? We were in Paris on Bastille Day a number of years ago, so much fun.
Besides all of the amazing fresh bread every day, I mostly did a good job! All of the walking helped burn calories too!

I went on vacation to Hawaii for two weeks had a friend come over to feed my fish and take care of the cat only to come home to find out he never fed my fish for the whole two weeks just took care of the cat he said he thought I had an auto feeder. To my surprise my tanks and my fish or perfectly all right. I wish I could survive for two weeks without food I could sure use the weight loss LOL.

Why doesn't talk about the feeding blocks? Only auto feeders. When you have 2 ponds and 6 tanks, auto feeders would be pretty expensive. Plus, I doubt they would sufficiently feed my ponds or how they would mount on the side...or if the food would even stay full. Feeding block is so hard, seems like it could stave off hunger and be adequate, but idk.
The skippers are okay to not eat for that long? I have 7 African skippers and I'm leaving on vacation for 5 days. They are my biggest worry.
Mine have been fine on multiple trips up to 7 days. This was the first time they went 9 days. They were normal and healthy.
If Irene is with you, it's a vacation, even if you stay on task, and get all your work done.
Nothing will happen in 9 days. How much time did they spend in a tiny bags? They will be fine without water changes as long as you don't overfeed 👍 not sure why they need water changes, the water looks like it's crystal clear apart from the algae 🤔 Remember a hungry fish is a healthy fish..
Greetings, I really enjoy your videos and I benefit from them but, I have decided not to like any video that is interrupted by ads. I understand that it's not your fault, but maybe you as video creators can exert some pressure on it. Probably for that very reason you have 1k watching a video and 100 likes or less.
There shouldn’t be any ads in the middle of the video unless you stopped and started watching again. I purposefully turned mid-roll ads off, so they should only be playing at the beginning and at the end. If it’s happening in the middle, it’s an issue with UA-cam. Thanks for watching!
