I think this is a perfect example of why asking for a lawyer the moment the cops start asking you questions totally isn't at all an indication of guilt, merely an assertion of your rights.

The max penalty is death, but only if they cause his death. They would probably only get 1 year maximum for what they did to him.

Anyone who has ever watched a true crime documentary should know that the prosecution will almost always try to create a story line that makes the person establishing innocence or self defense look like a crazy maniac that just wanted to kill someone... whether it was really innocence, really self defense or whether they are really guilty.. They don't care about you, your rights or your freedom. They care about getting someone prosecuted ESPECIALLY if it resulted in the death of someone else. So, it really doesn't matter at all what the laws are. It matters what the prosecution believes happened, whether what they think has any merit to it or not. Haven't ANY of you ever seen "Accused: Guilty or Innocent"?? They will put you on trial, accuse you of 1st or 2nd degree murder, manslaughter, aggrevated manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter, and any and every charge below it, make you fear for your freedom for 2 to 4 years while the case is being established and settled in court, make you go to 20 court Hearings, meet with a lawyer and pay a lawyer for your defense for years, (bleeding you dry) in order to spare your freedom, and then offer a plea deal right before the trial, trying to get you to admit to guilt. (Usually they do this because they don't think they have enough evidence for a guilty verdict.) If you don't accept the plea deal, they will wait until the exact same day as trial and drop all the charges, or proceed to trial. It happens all the time where they drag it out, just to drop it at the last minute.. Or if they think they have sufficient evidence, you're usually screwed, even if it really was rightfully self defense. So if you ever sent a text saying you hated the person that ended up dead, if you have any bad blood with them at all, any type of history, they will try to play it off as if you wanted to kill this person and are just making it SEEM like self defense, even if it was. There was a case on there where two guys were at Walmart, and one guy comes up to the other, some big muscley, tatted dude against some guy who looks like he's never been in a fight in his life... the big, tatted dude kept getting closer and closer to the other guy, aggressively screaming and he warned him multiple times not to come any closer. He kept walking towards him quickly, so the smaller guy pulled out his gun, and held it in a defensive posture. He told him not to come any closer. Then the tatted guy pulled out HIS gun and told the other guy to "put his f#$%ing BB gun away." The tatted guy slid his gun back into his holster and kept walking towards him, so dude shot him. Multiple witnesses saw and even recorded what happened and they were all in fear for the smaller guy that killed the other guy. The tatted guy was upset about the smaller dudes wreckless driving on his motorcycle and he got shot and killed due to his aggressive maneurisms and tone during the altercation. This guy was on trial for years, in the face of public opinion. They say innocent until guilty, but it's 100% the opposite IF the media is involved in any way. The bottom line is that prosecution will almost always try to turn any scenario around on the victim for protecting themselves, IF there are ANY cracks for them to weasel their way into. The bottom line is IF there was ANYTHING ELSE you could have done besides killing them, you should have done those things. You should have ran, you should have hid, you should have disarmed them. They are prosecuters for a reason, their sole job is to prosecute. It doesn't matter at all what the laws are, you better have a good lawyer and camera footage of the event in question, at your disposal. They were saying this guy simply just wanted to kill someone and this was his perfect opportunity. I don't agree this guy should have been killed but it's easy to see how things escalated so rapidly and dude had minimal time to think before he acted in what he believed qualified as self defense. He was lucky to be found not guilty. He still had to go through the stress and torture for years to see what his verdict was.
They usually create a plot for EVERY murder case and half of them are bogus, but the media and general public feed into it like pigs eating slop. They add all these outside components like satanic rituals, heavy metal music, occult or pagan beliefs, sacrifices, whatever will make a story more popular and sell more copies. It's usually the media intervention, and then this media interventions makes an appeal to public opinion, which causes people to believe you're guilty, even when you're supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. The media has no place in matters of the law and they shouldn't be allowed to report on cases of homicides or murder suicides or larger types of crimes UNTIL the case is fully settled in court. It leads to an unjust system, ultimately, because even though that is just the public opinion, public opinion and the actual verdict are the only 2 things that matter. If you're found innocent but the public still thinks you're guilty, you may as well have been found guilty because you have to hide yourself away from the world to have any type of quality of life. Like Casey Anthony. She is guilty, but according to the courts, she's not. If it wasn't swept up in the media, she would just be innocent, so in her case, the media was beneficial because she really is guilty. Anyone with half a brain cell can see that, but according to the law, she is innocent. BUT WHAT iF she really was innocent and all these people have been harassing her for so long even though she was found innocent and WAS innocent (just as an example, we all know she's not innocent.) But instances like that happen all the time where someone is found innocent, but the media slaughtered their entire reputation and ruined their life because the plot line cooked up by prosecution. I've seen cases of circumstantial evidence that didn't prove guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and these people are sentenced to life in prison or death, but I've also seen the flip side where all the circumstantial evidence points to one person, and then they later get a DNA hit or finger print they missed before, that shows it was 100% a random rape and killing that happened while someone else close to the victim, the last person to see them alive (in this case, the adult son) had been being blamed for their mother's death and prosecution had been treating him like dog crap after he came home to find his mom dead in a bathtub full of water and blood, and accusing him of being guilty, when it was some random slaying. How many people convicted on circumstantial evidence alone are actually innocent? Circumstantial evidence is far from fool proof and shouldn't be allowed without at least one piece of real evidence. Even phone records and pings and camera footage of you driving by a camera on the way to the scene of the homicide is not enough evidence to convince without reasonable doubt. The only point is that not everyone cares about finding the truth. They judt care about having someone to blame so they can get another "successful" notch on the metaphorical belt of justice. They might believe the story their spinning is true 100%, but they also get tunnel vision or just want the case to be solved "for the families." But I bet those families don't want to see someone spending their entire lives in prison that wasn't even the person who comitted the crime. I bet almost half of people spending life in prison on circumstantial evidence alone are not even really guilty of what they're being accused of. This is just more evidence of an unjust justice system, so the laws don't even really matter when they should matter the most. It is like people with mental illnesses having a manic attack, should they really be thrown in prison for doing something they have no recollection of and didn't mean to do? I don't know the answer to that, but I am leaning more towards no. When it involves obvious mental health issues, it should be treated slightly different IMO.

The amount of trauma that Tyler has gone through breaks my heart. Losing his sister so tragically to an evil monster, being interrogated/psychologically tortured, his dad going to prison for a crime he didn’t commit, his parents splitting and then his dad dying in a car accident. I pray that Tyler is okay and that if there’s a heaven, Kevin and riley are up there together🤍 such a messed up case all around.

I would be very curious to know this woman's credentials. I'm a counselor and used to work for an independent child advocacy group. We were often brought in to interview children who may have witnessed a crime. First, we worked independent of law enforcement. Second, we all received proper training and techniques of working with children. We were trained to SLOWLY get to know the child. You are initially there just to let the child talk. Once the child feels comfortable with you...and only then, you ask non-leading and non-suggestive questions. Above anything else, if the child becomes upset you immediately stop the session! Especially if the child is crying out for their parents! You comfort the child, reassure him/her that they are safe and then you go get their parent(s.) Any time that I have ever questioned a child, I had his/her parent/guardian sitting in a waiting room nearby.
If the woman who was questioning the little boy is a licensed counselor, social worker, etc. I would suggest that her license be suspended and she be sent back for training!

Annie, you are an amazing woman, fighting and exposing the injustices of our VERY flawed "justice system". I've been victimized so many times, being arrested for simply being a victim of domestic abuse, doing nothing other than going out the door when an argument ensued, only to be tracked down like an animal when my ex would literally hit himself on his face and say I did it. People are Sick but these officers don't do their homework either and continue to victimize the victom . I used to respect cops, both my parents were, Not Anymore. It used to be a respectful field, Not so much, I was arrested too many times when I never raised a hand due to their incompetence and laziness to actually get to the truth. I've been beaten ,while pregnant, punched in the stomach, but they, here in Las Vegas, are the Worst believing a Brian Laundry kind of SOB, time after time, I'm lucky to be alive but not unscathed. Those "detectives" are "defectives"and I feel bad for those who are dependent on them for having their cases reviewed by them.

Wow, the police work was shocking! The way I literally screamed when you said they told his wife that he did it!!! I can't imagine being her in that moment and hearing that, learning all the details of what was done, and then inevitably picturing it. And I can't imagine being him, trying to plead with his wife that it wasn't true, and knowing that no matter how much she says she believes you, there will always be that seed of doubt in the back of her mind because the detectives planted it there. And lord, none of these detectives knew what they were doing! Refusing to get him a lawyer when he requested one. Performing a polygraph while the subject is distressed, with no sleep, no food, and after being grilled for hours on end. Not filming the 15+ hours of him repeatedly saying he had nothing to do with it, but conveniently recording the 20 minutes of his forced confession. And of course, the evidence of who really did it was right in front of their faces! Prison shoes with the offenders initials on them! How do you overlook that?! And I'm sorry, but once a body is found and there is evidence of sexual assault, if you have no actual evidence on the father, you should immediately move to sex offenders. When sexual assault is involved, it is rarely the father (of course, there are exceptions) ... you have his DNA, so if it turns out to be him, you will know it when DNA comes back, but until then, you should be searching for other clues. I don't understand why the FBI didn't take a bigger lead in this case. I know local authorities have to request FBI assistance, but if they were already somewhat involved, they should have taken over the entire case. What made them think that police in a town of 1,000 could handle the complicated kidnapping, sexual assault, and murder of a child? The case should have immediately been handed over and officers admitted they were out of their depth. I just hope that Kevin's confession can be used to teach other officers the dangers of coercive confessions/false confessions.

How did they not notice the last name after going to that man's house on a call that day? This is insane and so so scary. I pray for them and all of our children. God bless!

Oh no. This is horrific. I almost can’t take hearing that she was calling out for her dad. I have never hated a criminal more than I do now. 😔

The fact that she cried out for her dad (the man accused of assaulting her) while being attacked absolutely kills me! This case was hard to listen to.

Absolutely horrific! I cannot imagine what that poor father went through to get to the point of a false confession. Those officers need some special attention paid to them.

The interview of the little boy was so heartbreaking. Those cops are awful.
