Your “reaction” videos (aka examining a song from the perspective of a trained vocalist) are absolutely next-level. If we were to create a comparison of your skills at this we would unequivocally say they are at a Dimash level. Of course there are many very knowledgeable vocal pros doing something similar to what you do, but very few do it in such a captivating way that will leave non-vocalists (and non-musicians even) completely entranced and going away actually more knowledgeable about every aspect of a song and music in general. You have an absolute gift!
I have been impressed and enheartened by the respectful discussions that I seen in the comments under so many of the reactions to this song. Another that I've noticed has touched people and engendered a lot of thoughtful discussion is _I Want To Go Home_. I particularly like _Virginia_ because, well, there are places that sing to me too. Thank you for your thoughtful and insightful analysis. And the mini vocal lesson. I enjoy your videos.

I'm no professional, but I haven't felt that he's a musical savant. You've described some techniques that I guess I know nothing about, so I may be wrong. His appeal, at least to me, has little to do with musical, technical talent. He's really good, for an AVERAGE guy, which is part of why we relate to him. He's the best guy at karaoke, easily, but he's still not a show stopping talent. But he has so much passion in his music about a subject we agree with, that we can't help but love him.
When I first heard this. One of the things that really dragged me in was just the recording. He is just singing in the woods. You can hear the sound travel. You can hear the insects. Its really something honest. So much music today is so produced, and layered its impossible to say where any of it comes from. And that really had me right from the start. The lyrics also has many.. its well written. The lyrics tries to be smart, dancing around topics that can be tricky. Also why some of them have been misunderstood. Like the Rich men north of Richmond. Because Richmond used to be the capital of the Southern states in the American civil war. See I dont know if that plays a role in him choosing this line. But thinking about it I just feel he used it for the word play it is, Rich Men. Richmond. and The politicians is all up north from there. But it does leave the ability for people to wonder. Same with him talking about obese. Is he saying its a shame that people who really suffer, being homeless ( Something the US suffers under, having more homeless people than any developed nation in the world ) is not getting the help they should. While people who has wealth, and the ability to eat and a home gets bailed out by the state. And the richer you are, the more help you get. Because the US is also the country with most corruption among the developed nations. Or does he mean that obese people are just dragging the state down, and instead of spending the economy on such things it, it should be used elsewhere. It can be understood in both ways. And he does not really clarify in the song one way or the other, again leaving it up to people to gather the meaning they hear. I hope its the first. Because I agree its a damn shame, that the rich gets more and more from the state, while people suffering and being sick, living on the street gets nothing but the end of a police stick. If its an attack on obese people, I dont really like it. Sure there are problems with it, that has to do with the state, and how we learn to consume food, what we learn to ease, and ease of access to food. That should be improved. But to just make the claim obese people are a burden to the welfare system, is something that is more harmful than helpful.
I do not think think this song is against welfare or against obese people. First Oliver talks about people on the streets having nothing to eat (and no welfare since no address), second he talks about the cheaters milking welfare and third he talks about young people ending their lives because they're tired of being kicked down. You can't take the second part out of the first and third without changing the meaning of the whole thing. This song is about the cheaters at the top and the cheaters at the bottom, both of them sucking the life out of people like you and people like me. In my opinion the song has nothing to do with the left or the right, it is about the unfairness of the rich men getting all the wealth while those people who produce this wealth get none of it. The left is supposed to be the political party that defends the poor against the rich. Since the Democrats regularly defend the rich against the poor, we can conclude that there is nothing left of the left in the Democrat party.
Food stamps is an absolutely broken, exploited system and this is knowledge that is readily available to lower working class people as they'll know of many first hand examples of both its exploitation and failure to actually serve any potential reasonable application. I worked at a grocery store starting at 16 that did most of its business in food stamps and the vast majority of families had more money for groceries than my working class family ever had. When my stepdad got cancer and couldn't work, my family was denied food stamps and then just a few years later, I see obese people spending an obscene amount of money of buggies full of junk (and not just a couple of people, but most of the people who had food stamps). And then I'd carry out these groceries to brand new Cadillacs, see people selling their food stamps at 50 cent to the dollar or to buy drugs and buying beer and tobacco with the "cash" version of their food stamps. And then after seeing this completely unfair, arbitrary application of welfare I got a further taste when my friends eighty something year old grandmother was given $25 a month when she was a woman who'd worked in the mills all her life even well past the age of retirement. Welfare is nothing more than a way for the state to create dependent, docile people which is why they wont help the working class and people with too much pride to become dependent on the states teet (or too old). This is what he's speaking on, hence the comparison between the situation of the homeless and those who abuse the food stamp system.
@@AcidAdventurer That is what YOU think he means. Neither of us speak for him. But also, what I hear is a failed system, as so often with the US. The corrupt system, that does not work is at fault. As with so many things in the US, bad systems are in place that waste money, because doing better things is not getting done. Often because companies pay politicians not to have them done. But you should put your energy into hating on the system. Because its the system and not the people who create the issues you have with it. The people have no power to stop it, or change it. Its not their fault its there, or that it does not work. Its the government, and how public poltics is generally done in the US. There is a reason, despite on paper having so much money, still is the nation in the developed world with most corruption, most homeless people, places with more poverty than 3 world countries, including lack of electricity and water. UN have deemed certain places in the US, worse than African war zones in terms of living standards. Dont blame the people. blame the system who have all the tools to fix these things. But does not.
@@AcidAdventurer Thank you for sharing this. Clearly there are honest people who don't abuse welfare. But we're not talking about them, and Oliver Anthony is also not taking about them. People who abuse welfare often use those who don't as a shield to hide their misconduct. They are the ones this song is talking about.
I've been following you for quite a while now. This, by far, was your BEST reaction! All of your points were well given! It's also the anguish he gives as well. Thank you!

😂 at a "four-day" drive from Richmond to DC. America isn't quite THAT big. ☺ But I'm glad you caught the political play on words, some people miss that reference entirely. As someone who was stationed in Germany, it was crazy how I could drive to almost any European country in less than a day, and it takes that long to drive across my STATE (Texas).
And by a day he means all the Fing day. When you cross over from Louisiana on I10 you see a sign that's like El Paso 863 miles. You just wanna go "F**k" at the top of your lungs. Back when the speed limit was 55mph it took more than a day. Now that it's 70 to 80 depending on where you are driving, it's still all damn day. Only you Aussies can really understand. Texans commute 70 - 100 miles each way to work without thinking about it. It's what you do for a good job.

I am a Marine: not under contract, slaving my ass away just to come home and drink the shitty day away, praying to God that I make it through the next day, and that my life has purpose to make those I work with have a better, happier day while I don't succumb to the absolute misery of my work environment. It is a struggle, daily. But as a Christian, this is our command by God and our duty. If we are encompassed by the Holy Spirit, we are to be the light to others. Believe me, it is an absolute struggle for us. But when you go home knowing that you made lives better, YOU will feel better, and uplifted. Please try tomorrow, and every day after, uplifting those around you instead of selfishly pouting and raging out. Making folks happy will make you happy. Making folks miserable will make you miserable.

I like your contributions to the world. Always puts me in a better mood and I’m not usually in a good mood.
I missed a few of your posts but catching up and what a good analysis of this guy! This women needs more subs for sure!!
Good show lady! Way to learn on the fly!! With the geography of our crazy big country. I was curious if this type of performance could be sustained for a significant time. Cheers!
He is remarkable. I love that he is uniting the people while at the same time exposing those in control.
Once again you have nailed everything about Oliver!👍👍
Have family in Farmville and this man is lighting the fire that will be needed to get the country back on track and able to assist the rest of the world in a meaningful way. We might close for a few months, then reopen under new management.
One of the best reactions I've seen on this song!.
Excellent thankyou.👍
It’s either an an hour and 40 minute drive or 3 1/2 hours depending on traffic lol. He’s got something in his voice that absolutely stirs the soul.
Lolli !!! I can't believe I missed this reaction until today. Your reaction, as always, is fabulous, you are ever more enchanting with your style, knowledge , insights and humor. Love you Lolli ! I am thrilled that you discovered the truth about the "like yous and the never wills" so early in life, it will save you a lot of wasted effort and give you, as you said, the ability to spend time with those who get and appreciate you. Also love the very fashionable thin hair braids !!
Voice Mother Voice Mother on wall you are the Fairest Fairy of them all. 🕊---------🥥
The explanation of why his voice is so hard hitting was very insightful. Thanks.
Love seeing young people understanding this fantastic story!!!
It is a conversation had by many of us with our friends here in the US. I believe this song resinates with the whole world.
Your editing is terrific! Makes me want to watch you bunches of times!
That oracle card was great I laughed so hard I could relate to that so well, and your comment also, Your just fabulous. ❤❤❤🎉
Your on point. That's what I do to calm down after work. I just hummmmmmm, and calm down because anyone can him almost any song.
Last Friday, i saw the Not a Tinie Weenie Bambini. Angelina Jotdan at her first USA Headlining concert.... wished you were there!!! 19 VOCALS....
Her rendition of Unchained Melody, was OFF THE CHAIN, Treace inducing.!!!
You have provided an absolutely brilliant critique! Wow! I’m impressed! Thanks for your review!
Obesity related illness comprises 1/3 of Medicare cost.
You my dear are wonderful and what a great reaction……..thank you for sharing
I've listened to many reviews of this song and artist. For me, this one is by far the best. Thank you so much!
I've been following you for quite a while now. This, by far, was your BEST reaction! All of your points were well given! It's also the anguish he gives as well. Thank you!
I have never heard anyone dissect lyrics and vocal keys to this detail, BUT, I hear you and have learned something. I think you are overlooking the message here.
Big hugs right back atcha❣️🤗
Oliver Anthony is uniting us all
Im so glad you got it. Good job on this reaction.
Thank you for your reaction to Oliver Anthony. song love his song I.
Love independent artists that are not afraid to speak to truth. I realize you're from Great Britain and you don't understand all of politics in this country just as I don't understand the politics of your country?
But you can still relate to the song and you can still have a great reaction. Thank you keep up the good work.
By the way I love the red hair?
Such a well rounded analysis of this song along with your vocals...cheers...
Your reaction is/makes you beautiful. Great review/ review. So talented and trained you are. Thanks for this review/ reaction.
Best reaction vid I’ve seen on this song and I think I’ve seen most of them. Thank you.
The message is the message of the American people.
Absolutely enjoyed really really enjoyed it your reaction to this video and you do get it. You really do get it and it was awesome.
Great analysis and insights, thank you
I love reaction videos of good songs.
Excellent analysis and explanation. I particularly liked that you commented not just on the singing but the songwriting.
Please keep it up.
Excellent reaction

i have watched your reaction of this song 3 times and love it, yes the messages is great but he voice is awesome. learning!
should react to i want to go home his voice really digs into the soul and its so freaking good
What hits me the most in this song is @6:30 when he loudly sings "wish I could just wake, and it not be true" then there's a slight pause and much softer he sings "but it is, oh it is" and BAM!! That's when it hits you that this isn't some bad dream, this is OUR life under the Plutocracy.
Lovely as always
Hi
I love your reactions, your explanation of singing from anatomical and muscular perspective. You’ve got a great voice too!!
Listen Oliver Anthony song Virginia. It’s beautiful.
Steely Dan, one of my Favorites. Reeling in the years.
Thanks!
She is so intelligent. Love her take on the song.
The Holy Spirit is working through this young Man. It is amazing!!
Your reactions are the only reactions I like to see. Your knowledge and vocal abilities are amazing. Thank you for posting so many spot-on reviews. Farmville Va is about 3 hours away from Washington DC. 😊
Old soul commenting on an old soul, singing about old souls! INSTANT Sub.... You have amazing insight my friend!
I love the song but am absolutely memorized by you! You are drop dead gorgeous and love your voice and delivery! ❤🎉🥰😍😘
This song is wonderful and so are you mate
Thank you
I do the drive from Richmond to DC every week. It's anywhere between 2 and 6 hours depending on traffic. 😉
I know Chris very well he would love your reaction! :) Thank you and God bless you!
I'm neither American nor religious, but I appreciate your struggle and your message.
You're obviously doing it to help people and that deserves massive respect.
I hate religion when it turns you into an asshole, but if religion makes you a good person, I'm here for it.
So much respect, I know the comment was 5 months ago, but I appreciate you. Not as a military or religious fellow, but just from person to person.
All the best to you.
The way I see it, there's only two kinds of people, doesn't matter where you from or what you believe.
There's assholes and there's people who aren't.
@@xenogenesis9635 Brother, I hear ya. See me not as American, religious or a Marine. That was my fault for labeling myself as such, even though it was only for context.
I am a follower of the Way, a child of God and a disciple of Christ Yeshua. That is how I want to be identified. God bless you and thank you for coming to me as a Brother to point out my faults.
@@SavageDawgJoshua Ain't no fault in describing who you are. If someone wants to interpret things into that, that's on them. You know what you stand for and that's great.
Just be a good person and everything's alright.
Cheers to you and your family, mate. Best of luck!
***!!! ❤reaction really. Keep on with this. Brilliant singing there. Greetings from Gothenburg .
That's traditional folk style music from the Appalachian Mountains region of the U.S. Music that you would mainly hear being played on the front porch, back porch, around a backyard fire while passin round a jar of home made moonshine or in a bar of those small villages while amongst family and close friends
Thanks for your breakdown. I just thought it was simply soulful.
I love his song and listened to almost all reviews and yours was the most technical
God bless you young lady!
Love you and love your reactions. Thank you for what you do!
Very enjoyable. Thank you for sharing
Yours was the far most analytical, precise, and insightful investigation of Oliver’s “Rich man north of Richmond. The old fashioned version was simply 3 chords and a truth
His song comes in waves. Like the ocean. If you sit on the shore and watch carefully you'll see that the waves come in sets ( usually sets of 7 or 11) the first being the largest and the last the smallest. Life is like the ovean it comes in sets. If you fight it, it will drag you down. So go with the flow.
First time I heard this song my response was "He speaks for me"
First time I heard this song my response was to play it again.
@@rickschlosser6793 First time i heard this i was thinking "oh wow not all people are asleep" this song Resonates all over the globe.
@@mrj9585 Yup. It transcends borders. I am a broken, disillusioned veteran from Sweden, and I feel that he spoke to, and for me, as well. That is why this song was so vilified in the legacy media.
I hope you do an analysis of The Warning soon. A rock band of three sisters from Mexico that will blow your mind. Yes all three sing amazing, but most of the time it's Dany (guitar) on lead vocals with some songs by Pau (drums) lead vocals and Ale (bass) usually on backing vocals.
taking off the makeup and lighting was a nice touch adding something more to this particular reaction.
This guy has massive Tim Barry feel. That passionate heartfelt folk sound is some Tim is a master at.
