Just to be clear, a cable does not NEED to be certified to be able to send HDMI 2.1 level signals, however certification is simply a guarantee that it will do so. Theoretically speaking, if you found a cable built well enough, something from 10 years ago could even still potentially pass HDMI 2.1 level signals. That's the nice thing about HDMI, is that at a base level, the cables are the same internally. It's just a matter of how well built they are, how strongly they can hold a signal over distance, and how well they can block external interference. Those are the factors that allow higher bandwidths to carry, which result in certification. So theoretically, with a well enough built cable, even a very early HDMI cable could potentially carry an 8K/120 signal. It's just a gamble if you're picking something that isn't certified.
@@stopmotionlebronjames5124 You are confusing cables with the HDMI hardware implemented on a given tv - a 5 year year old tv cannot offer the extra features of a 2.1 signal, even if the 5 year old cable can. Regarding the PS5 to C9 with the PS5 high speed HDMI cable, it's interesting to me to see that the FFE level is 3. This is the highest allowable value, so it's taking the maximum amount of TxFFE available to the Panasonic bridge chip transmitter to pass FRL Rate 4 (4x8Gbps) to the TV. Seems like the link signal integrity might be at its limit or marginal. This might warrant some eye diagram measurements.
Thanks for testing. I think it's also important to point out that currently the ps5 is forcing hdr on all sdr games and the only way to fix it is to manually toggle off hdr each time you want to play an sdr game. Ps4 never had this problem. I'm sure most of us don't want to have to do internet research every time we play a new game (especially indy or AA titles) to see whether they support hdr.
If you follow Vincent's PS5 settings on a LG C1,the TV or PS5 will switch settings for SD and HDR games, not sure which makes the switch. If you have a psvr hooked up it all goes to hell and you can only have HDR on both SD and HDR games.

I was able to easily use the Xbox's HDMI 2.1 cable to connect my TV to my console with no issues but the PS5's cable was too short. I ended up by a Ultra High speed cable off of Amazon that was 10 feet long and using it with the my Xbox Series X as it was slightly further away from the HDMI port of the TV and used the cable supplied with my Xbox Series X on the PS5 since it was the perfect length for where the PS5 is connected.

I just got my ps5 and there’s an auto toggle in setting for this. Im assuming they brought it with an update? It’s funny because I was playing insurgency and it looked off. I realised this was the reason, trying to force HDR which made it look bad!
@@DarrenE1991 yup they released an update about 6 month after I wrote comment above. Works great for games but does not work for streaming apps. Tbh no one should be using the bad quality streaming apps on consoles anyway
Still the same in January 2023.
Another thing the PS5 doesn't do is "Turn off the TV/Monitor" when you turn off the PS5
BUT
The tv/Monitor does Put the PS5 into rest mode when you turn it off!
So now I have to remember to switch off the TV after shutting down the PS5.
PS4 was the opposite!
Oh the joys.

Awesome! Thanks for doing this. Certainly creates confusion when it doesn't carry the official Ultra High Speed HDMI name, or the certification QR code. Very nice of you to provide this peace of mind :)
It does carry 18 gbit HDMI name which adds to more confusion.
You could sum this video up in 30 seconds with a yes or no
the condom analogy was so unexpected lmao
I'm not one of the foolish infidels who doubts your findings, but I am very curious to see if 40Gbps will be unlocked when Sony releases firmware for VRR, ALLM and 8K on PS5.
@FührêrFPöñê what's dreaming in that? Stop the toxic nature dude

Rumour squashed. Thank you Vincent!
Now then, what about the game options in the PS5 menu system for 'performance' versus 'resolution' ? As, the rumour for this is that: changing this from the 'default' to 'resolution' will mean the system changes the video output signal for games.
That's the other rumour.
Glad to see that the ps5 HDMI cable is capable of transfers up to 40 Gbit/s. I have already changed my ps5 cable with a new certified one because I had sometimes issues and not getting signal on my QN85C TV. Since I changed cable it runs absolutely fine every single time. Just sharing my experience here
So... I don’t *really* need a new cable then?
Your link just goes to a page listing search results and the cable isn’t listed.

Sony cable can handle HDMI 2.1
Great video thank you for this. I would have never thought you could loop a hdmi cable back to itself and run a test like that
Condoms and cables. Thank you Vincent 😂
If you only want the answer : yes. HDMI cable with PS5 is 2.1 (40Gb/sec)
Vincent, thank you for all your efforts and professionalism. Could you just ask Sony directly if they have capped the bandwidth? and if they have why? If they have not, then on spec's alone it is inferior to the Xbox but in the real world could you actually see that difference?
Very in-depth and informative as usual. Thank you Vincent
LMAO🤣🤣🤣 smoking gun at the end just for good measure

So they're selling me a cable that's not actually capable of 48? Why is it called hdmi 2.1 if it doesnt support 48? Strange
The clearest explanation ever. Subbed

Yes $99 charge.

I just recently purchased (2) 16ft Zesk Kit / hdmi 2.1 cables and I’m very impressed thus far.
Thank you for confirming this Vincent Right! I mean Teoh. 😁
I used the PS5 HDMI cable when I tested my NVIDIA 3070 built PC on my LG B9 OLED TV. It worked fine at 4k120 with gsync enabled in HDR mode 👍🏼
were you able to do chroma 4:4:4?
I see the same result using the Sony cable between my PC and 48 OLED, all works without issue running 4k120@444 clearly supporting 40Gbps. I'm not sure why the Marantz test has failed for Technodad, but it feels like an issue with the testing on that unit as it doesn't match up to other testing. That or they got Dud cables. Love your work Vincent!
It failed 3 times out of 10 for Technodad, so I beleive it is the cable.
@@lolerie Makes the most sense, also makes more sense why it failed at 18Gbps, which shouldn't happen with a high speed Sony cable regardless.
@@kevsaccount3644 oopsie, sorry, I just watched Technodad video. It is strange, very strange, that 18 gbit failed. I doubt it is possible. So IMHO, he got just a bad cable or AVR.
Vincent & I think alike apparently. I already ordered the Zeskit HDMI cable to work with my Atmos soundbar & Xbox Series X. The cable singlehandedly stopped the random drops of lost audio/video I was getting through my soundbar. I will be ordering another one of these cables for my PS5.
Dry af he simply sneaks in the use pf old condoms... legend🤣
The hdmi that came with the ps5 how long is it
So I got my PS5 and Xbox about a week apart from each other and I found that the HDMI 2.1 cable supplied with the PS5 was much shorter then the one supplied with the Xbox Series X.

Can you confirm whether PS5 is capable of Dolby Atmos passthrough over DD+? Either coming from apps like Netflix or Blu-ray discs?
Dolby atmos and Dolby digital plus are different surround formats.
ua-cam.com/video/R3E48fCFp4k/v-deo.html maybe that will help.
@@Zeeman21 Exactly what I was looking for, thanks!
@@markrowe8824 Dolby Atmos is indeed a surround sound format. DD+ is a compression scheme that allows for Dolby Atmos transfer that previous schemes could not, due to bandwidth limitations.
This is exactly what I wanted to know. I also noticed that the PS5 supplied cord didn't say "Ultra High Speed" on it.
"Vincent Teo, not W(r)ong"

lol.. Took me a replay as I wasn't sure the 1st time... .,... Damn... Fking rippa' !
I tested both the Zeskit 3M high speed HDMI cable and the Audiano 2M high speed cable from Amazon with a 3090 and LG CX and both passed 4K/120/RGB/4:4:4 with no issues. I needed 3M, but was scared a longer cable would introduce issues, so I got a different 2M one in a different brand JIC and both ended up working perfectly. Both were recommended as HDMI 2.1 capable on AVS even though they don't certify official HDMI 2.1 cables yet (just HDMI high speed blah blah blah...). Both of these are quality brands in build and tech based on my own testing.
You don’t actually need HDMI 2.1 cable. Just use a regular HDMI 2.0 cable, try to set 4K@120 10-bit 4:4:4 on your 3090 you will be surprised with the results ;)
@@chroman you're probably right, but I didn't want to get my new card in the mail and hook it up just to find out my cable was lacking and best buy was closed, so I bought two of the highest recommended brands to hedge my bet. If you're gonna drive off a cliff and buy a 3090 you don't skimp on the cable... at least that was my thinking.
Even the ps5 cable is not enough for a 3090 in 4k 120hz hdr with dolby atmos.
