    Thanks for sharing. Kitchen hack: Next time if you put your Bladdewrack on a cookie sheet with parchment paper its alot easier work work with.

      I was going to say the same. The air fryer takes up a lot of power inside an off grid home.

    It is easier and quicker to just use a large spoon to get the juices and fat. Also, if you use a bit of the juice with the fat to cook the vegetables in. It adds even more flavor compared to just the fat.
    That said, it was delightfully amusing watching you and hearing your husband's enjoyment in watching you 😄

    For the fat.... in a hurry put the bowl in the freezer while its separates it solidify for your... if you have time to spare! Put the bowl/jar in the fridge...it will solidify and separate and you will get ALLLLLLL the fat... just crack the surface with a spoon and it comes right out... and you have the chicken stock left after you take out the fat!

    I'D FREEZE IT AT LEAST 48 HOURS because some critters are durable enough to last a simple overnight freeze.
    Then run it under warm water to defrost enough to handle.

      We are definitely currently using too much water right now. We currently also have 2 small rain barrels and are super excited that we have a 10,000 litre water storage tank coming next month

    Why didn't you thaw the seaweed in warm water instead of ripping it apart when frozen?

    Put the bowl inside the pan and everything you spill will end up in the pan, then when you are done, just wipe off the bottom. And a large flatish spoon to scoop the oil off the top would be quicker and easier for her.
    If you ever need to cut drywall, give her a skill saw to do it with.

      That's what I came here to say! I do the same with cooked chickpeas and beans. Once frozen, transfer to the bag. It's saved my kitchen worktop a lot of pounding over the years!

    is there a reason the chicken was cooked upside-down? better fat rendering?

    • @LovinofftheLand
      @LovinofftheLand  3 роки тому +3

      Great question!!!! Yes. Its cause the crispy skin is one of our few treats so we cook it upside down. Cut off all the skin on the bottom, then flip it and back in the oven to crisp the other side :)

    How do you make the sea salt?

    • @jessicapearson9479
      @jessicapearson9479 9 місяців тому

      I don't think they actually made it. But if you want to make it yourself. You just go collect seawater in a large jar. Let it sit for a day or two. Check to see is you caught any sealife (guaranteed you did unless you had a cheese cloth over the top of the jar while collecting the seawater) and strain them out while pouring gently into another jar. Now you can just cover the jar of sifted seawater with a clean peice of cheese cloth and set out in the sun to evaporate completely leaving just the salt behind for you or you can boil it down til all the water is completely evaporated leaving nothing but the salt behind.
      However, I would not recommend doing this as it is well known fact that the most polluted seawater is right along the coastlines!! That is from the beach to 20 miles out to sea.
