I don’t think I ever seen this much joy and excitement when you caught a fish in any other video. Does this mean we will see more TacticalMuskie fishing?
That was awesome! Glad to see you after some ski. Quick trick you may enjoy trying if you see one and run over it I learned a few weeks ago - if you can get down current and come up behind them, flip a jig in front of them and hop it down in front of their face. The strike is insane.
Especially in clear water, I go on a fishing trip up in Canada for the musky opener to fish Lake of the Woods and Crow (Kakagi) lake. Many of the Throne Bros like Luke Ronnestrand showed me the jigging trick for when they follow in slow and settle on the bottom. It was a miracle but horrible knowing how many fish I could have caught when I didn't know this trick. Best week of fishing up there was 56 muskies in a week between my group and a lot of the fish was sight fishing with pitching that jig out. MATT TRY THE JIG AS YOU WOULD PRODUCE SOME GREAT CONTENT.... LOVE YOUR PAGE THO KEEP IT UP :)
Matt to hear the excitement in your voice after all you've done in fishing is truly a joy, well done you ,Tim and the family keep crushing it, thank you for sharing
Not gonna lie that first fight was hilarious to watch lol! Not that I’d fair any better obviously, just funny to watch the frantic/excited scramble from such an experienced angler as yourself.
Welcome to the sickness that is muskie fishing! Besides a bigger hoop/bag, a mini bolt cutters like a 8" Knipex is a good idea. Really handy for cutting hooks if the fish gets rolled up in the net or if you get a hook in your hand. Great video as always!
A few years back my family and I went fishing and my wife saw a tiger musky and it freaked her out. On the way home she started asking me a bunch of questions about how to catch one. The next year I put her on some pike and she loved it. Later that summer she hooked a musky as well. Her reaction was priceless. Thanks for sharing your trip with us and hope to see more.
I've been following this channel for several years and happy to see Matt get into some Musky! Just be careful you don't give up bass altogether to chase toothy critters :) it is an obsession!
A good friend has also been collecting musky gear for years without ever really getting to use it. Then you catch 2 ‘fish of a thousand casts’ on your first trip. Lots of guys will be jealous. Very cool video and great experience with your whole family.
Awesome video, glad you finally did a muskie vid. I suggested a muskie vid about a year ago hoping you would do one on your MI trips. Little did I know you would be moving to TN. Let's see some more. The Bullshad is also a great river musky bait. I use the Fury 806 with a Calcutta.
2 beautiful musky. Bought my Hobie Pro Angler last fall and plan on bass, walleye and musky this year at Lake Chautauqua this year. I'm debating on using a net in the kayak. We stopped using a net years ago while musky fishing from the boat for several reasons. First is that lures with 2-3 treble hooks get tangled in the net. This causes 2 problems. Obviously one is the lure caught in the net takes time to get it free. Second is the health of the fish. They are oxygen depleted after a fight and then to lift them out of the water to untangle, measure, weigh and photograph can cause significant damage. Imagine sprinting 100 yards and then holding your breath for a full minute or two. I spoke to folks at the musky hatchery that believe that even if the fish swims away after release, some eventually soon die due to brain damage. We transitioned to keeping them in the water, climbing down onto the swim platform and removing the hook with one or two long needle nose pliers. After a fight they tend to just hover there until released. Photos were taken while still in the water, on occasion a quick lift out for a pic and then back in the lake.
I caught one last month in TN while trolling for rockfish. Imagine my surprise when I got this beast up to the boat and saw that mouth full of teeth. My buddy has been fishing there for 40 years and had never seen one. Quite a fighter.
Just hooked a 5 Ib channel cat on Saturday in 1.5 ft of water while swimbait fishing! He hit it like a freight train! It was completely hilarious, my brother was actually cat fishing but of course I caught one on last cast before we left. (Since the conditions were terrible in central N.C.) yesterday I was showing a couple of kids how to use a bait caster and hooked a 3 Ib bass in a random pond behind a housing area 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, great day man! I've never been musky fishing, but everyone I know who does says that you are doing really well to hook up once in a trip. Some say they fish for days without even a bite. So two big uns like that in the same day, being your first time targeting musky... well, you said it... "What a blessing!" Nice to see 😊 I'm so psyched you guys are on the east coast now. Hoping to be able to hook up with you guys at some point when you get your charter system set up. Please please please let us know when you do. I'm sure that once you do there will be a waiting list several miles long, but I want on it! Deposits, pre-paying... whatever it takes to get on your list, I'll do it! Thanks guys! Hope to hook up. Until then, happy hookin' 🎣🐟💪💯
Great decision to move from California to Tennessee. I left California last year and stopped in Texas. Thinking now that I should continue East to Tennessee. Enjoying all your videos. Life can be short. Glad to see you and your family enjoying the Tennessee fisheries.
Gotta comment again, it’s awesome to see your wife and daughter out there with you, exploring new water and enjoying some river time, doesn’t get much better than that !
Love small river musky fishing! Got my first one on the Shenandoah River back in May. Just under 39 inches. Sad I had to move back to the coast I miss the hunt!
Glad you all moved to TN. Im in NE TN myself. Theres a place on the river here I think you all need to fish for sure if your ever in the area. Hold's double digit largemouth and football smallies. Im so pumped to go after just watching this. Lol
Matt, it is really great to see you this excited about fishing. I know you catch a lot of fish, but the smile on your face is everything. Good job sir👍🏻💪🏻
Huge respect. Chasin’ Muskies is a disease! Just separated some Muskie lures (over 100 lures) myself that I rarely used that I’ll sell and it hardly makes a dent in my muskie lure arsenal. The Disease is Real! Be well.
I France, when a pike (northern pike for us) reach the 1m (40 in) mark, we call them "a beam" or "a trunk"... So awesome to catch one in such pristine spot! Great Job! Thanks for sharing and keep them coming!
Great vid. Good to see you starting to do figure 8s at about the 3:30 mark. I've caught probably 20% of my toothies on the 8 or a big L sweep. Congrats!
Musky are amazing, but give me a 40"+ pike any day. Much more aggressive fight. But nice job on the musky. If you're ever looking for premier musky action, head north over the border to NW Ontario and fish the Lake Of The Woods area. 50"+ are common. Excellent video!
Congrats on the Musky, you've likely got the bug now. Agree with fellow fishermen below, you might want to try going down in gear size, as you know how to fight a fish. I catch way more of them with smaller line and 4" profile baits, plus you'll be hooking up with large bass too:) I'm not a fan of using braid, except for backing when fishing for them, as it feels like a Mack truck hit your lure, so a little stretch is good. I really like the FluoroShield co-poly, as it is plenty strong with good stretch. I've caught 40"+ on 6# XL monofilament while fishing for Saugeye on a #2 Aberdeen jig hook many times with 3" curly tail grub, but wouldn't go target trophy Musky with this outfit. This whole tuna gear mentality to target these monsters is probably only correct, if you don't know how to fight a fish or throwing very heavy lures in raging tailwaters. How about a Musky Finesse Fishing Video? Let'em Jump!
Talks about how cold it is, still wears the flip flops. Classic Matt. Also. If you want to catch some TRUE giants, you got to go to Lake St. Clair. Also an amazing smallmouth bass fishery, as I'm sure you know.
