On thing that he didn't touch on is that if you condemn one of the loops you can use the 4 cable method which just adds even more functionality. I have mine a month now and I'm very impressed. Using it into my EVH 5150 3 in the 4 cable method. The effects are amazing sounding. You can also configure switches to do multiple things if you press the same switch, for example you have delay and chorus on if you press the same switch you can turn on up to 8 other items, whilst turning the 2 other off which is insane. The drives will also surprise you. All in all its madly versatile and sounds good.
I got mine love it, it eliminated 4 pedals that I can use for another rig now. It also, cleaned up my sound and gave me better control over eq per preset.
Same concept as my old Boss ME-X which I loved it just was old tech A/D-D/A which sucked the life out of my guitar but still allowed me to use my three main drive peddles. Always wanted Boss to come out with an updated higher quality version. This is going on my peddle board!
Tue MS3 cuts off Delay and Reverb trails when you change presets. There is the curnum function that allows to have only two snapshots/scenes within one preset without cutting trails. But when you change the preset then trails are cut off again. Is there a way to create more than two snapshots (for ex example in manual mode)? Or is manual mode not able to simultaneously turn on and off multiple FX by the mere push of ONE button?
Hi! I just got the MS3 a week ago. Played alive with it and loved the sound. I would like to know, if I can split two different distortions to two amplis at same time? Example: Bank 01 Loop 1 - dist1 - amp1 Loop 2 - dist2 - amp2 I would like to switch one to another, like in stereo. Thanks in advance
Waiting for the Boss MS-5 or MS-8... that would definitely sell it it for me.... but with the possibility of parallell runs as with the ES-5/8... May pick up the MS3 for a mini-board eventually, but...
Absolutely. I have 3 drive units that I stack for different rhythm and lead sounds. Another two loops would go a looong way, especially if I can rearrange the order within one bank like the ES5. I'm sure it's on its way but it's frustrating that they didn't include that functionality when the tech is available. Still, I'm pretty well sold on this. I can sacrifice my mod/delay pedals for the on board effects but so far I haven't found a multi effects unit that has drives I can get along with. Looking forward to future models.
Yes. All the effects of the MS-3 can be moved freely in the signal chain. The loops themselves are locked in place, relative to each other. You can move effects before or after L1-3, but not in between them. Also you cannot move the order of those loops around. The most common way to do what you want would be to connect your amp's input to L3 send and the amp's fx send to L3 return, then plug the MS-3 main output into the amp's FX return. L1 and L2 would then be used for overdrive and the suchlike.
Is it possible that if you could do a review of the Vox Stomplab IIG I'm hoping to buy this and would this have a good enough clean sound to use through a solid state amp and would it work well with pedals?
If i run say eventide H9 on two of the loops i still get mono?? How about if i run the H9 through the main outputs ? It will not be ideal but might be ok
can i also channel switch my engl amps with this??. replacing my z9 pedal ??. would be nice to midi switch wich i always do and put lets say a boost on one channel with a gate and exclude that for the clean and opt for a other pedals on that channel.
I'm starting to think I need a new multi effects processor but like my Zoom GFX-8 too much as the preset tones aren't as tinny sounding compared to the multi effects units on sale today. Why does my 18 year old Zoom sound better? Is is because back in the day companies took notice of what musicians wanted? Better build quality or just better value for money?
CHOPERUS23 it sounds better TO YOU. Computers, AD/DA converter sand so on have improved in the last 18 years so you “technically” can’t say old stuff sounds better.
Yes. i.imgur.com/lFiOGL6.jpg Kind of a bummer that you can't bypass it, but you could use a single channel true bypass looper to go around it I suppose.
You can use 4CM through any of the MS-3's three loops. If you’re using drive pedals in Loop 1 and Loop 2, then use Loop 3 for 4CM to ensure your drives are running into the front end of your amp. If you’re using a drive pedal in Loop 1 and a delay pedal in Loop 2, then you should use Loop 2 for 4CM. This will place the preamp of your amplifier between the drive and delay (essentially this means the drive will run into the front of the amp and the delay will run in the amp's effects loop). If you’re using two pedals that would usually go in the amp's effects loop, for example a delay and a reverb, then you should use Loop 1 for 4CM. This will place the delay and reverb in the effects loop of the amp. With 4CM hookup you can freely position all the internal effects of the MS-3 anywhere around the L1/L2/L3 loop block, but you cannot insert an internal effect between the loops, so any internal effect placed after the loop block will be in the amp's effects loop.
Hi! I´ve finally bought it, but I can´t adjust the whammy efect. What do I have to do? What´s the sequence? I also would like to use the expression pedal as a volume booster. How can I do it too? Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!
As far as I know, yes. Either using one of the inbuilt switches or with an external one. That will set the tempo for all the effects that take advantage of it.
Sure you can, there’s two control outs or midi out (depending on how your amp handles switching) to switch amp channels, so you just create a patch containing this amp ctrl + whatever loop your od pedal is in, and even add a built in fx
When you plug your preamp, two drive pedals and an expression pedal into it, the MS-3 can do everything that the GT100 can. The main difference is that analog drive usually sounds much better than digital drive. Also you retain quick access to all the dials on your drives, which allows you to make changes easier. The MS-3 is more scalable and with decent drive pedals and a decent amp, you will most likely get a better sound than with the GT-100's inbuilt drives and amp simulations. The GT100 will be cheaper than an MS-3 + anything you need to add and the amp and cab sims will allow you to practice silently over the headphone out. I prefer the MS-3 because I'd like a smaller build and keep using my drive pedals.
an amazing unit and thank god for videos like yours. rare actually. two complaints. the manual is lame. also, yes this is a bit moronic, but you use your thumb a lot to access function keys. makes it hard to follow because I am focused on your index. yes, strange complaint but maybe in future vids, you could use the index. I would not be as in touch with this unit if not for your video, regardless of digit....thanks man!!!!
HA! I must be moronic, too, cuz I also got confused in watching his index finger, and then I had to back up a few times to recheck what had just gone on. lol. NO big deal, of course! If all demos could be this good overall. Besides that, I have to say this has been THE clearest 'capsule' explanation of what this unit does and, armed thusly, I would likely be unafraid just diving right in to explore with what Tom has just demonstrated or explained. Thank you, Tom!
Hi, thinking about adding to my rig so if anyone can help me here I would appreciate it. Should this run in my effects loop? If I run it and use my amps distortion I wouldn't want my delay and reverbs before it if I hook them in to the effects loops of the ms-3? Thanks

Well put! This is a A+++ unit in 4-cable method. Have used with BluGuitar Amp1 and other preamps/amps. Powerhouse little unit.

Oh Tommy....I ❤ your reviews and Quaylegato™

Awesome tutorial, hey any chance you could run one about using the fs7 to change banks without turning off the current patch you're in? Cheers
Does this unit have IR's built into it so you can run it through a powered FRFR monitor?
hello my friend. is this trye bypass? does it colours your sound? thank you.
Happy to see a new generation of G-System concept/idea in a smaller and more portable package :)
Under Luke's where you can add your own pedals could you add say two or three pedals to each Loop instead of only one?
Waiting for the Boss MS-5 or MS-8... that would definitely sell it it for me.... but with the possibility of parallell runs as with the ES-5/8...

I was waiting
As well, 10 months later and I ordered the 3 :-/

Hi. How can i use boss ms3 blend sounds bass ( clean - drive) parallel?. Thx
When you change to another effect in another patch, it is a cut delay between sounds. I personally don't like that, so I prefer to buy the es-5.
Hi, very good review. Is it possible to use some effects in front of the amp and some in the fx loop of the amp, using L1-3?
Yes. All the effects of the MS-3 can be moved freely in the signal chain. The loops themselves are locked in place, relative to each other. Is the memory/manual light always flashing? Kind of irritating.
If i run say eventide H9 on two of the loops i still get mono?? How about if i run the H9 through the main outputs ? It will not be ideal but might be ok
Whats the “boutique overdrive pedal” he used?? Cant really make out what he said

Hi, tuner function doesn´t work, do you know why?
I'm starting to think I need a new multi effects processor but like my Zoom GFX-8 too much as the preset tones aren't as tinny sounding compared to the multi effects units on sale today.

using this with the atomic amplifirebox for the amp emulation would be a killer setup
You remind me a lot of Rick Graham...your playing is so fluid and clean, I see a lot of similarities.
dose the tail of a delay or reverb stay if you switch patch ?? will it continue over another patch until it die ??
Only within the same preset by using the curnum function
you can run stereo at the end after the switcher if it is a midi pedal that you can switch on/off via midi out, no?
Jim Voos I’m following in case someone else answers this
what was the pedal being used for overdrive on the floor?
Wonderful video, and an amazing supercool looking guitar !
Does the signal that goes through your pedal (in the loop) get analog digital conversion?
Yes. i.imgur.com/lFiOGL6.jpg Kind of a bummer that you can't bypass it, but you could use a single channel true bypass looper to go around it I suppose.
Hello! Can I also use Boss ms3 as a Loop Station? Does the MS3 has something like that? Thanks.
No loop option.
Just Buy a loop. This work like switcher
Great review and playing.
does it have boost pedal in MS3?
Yes
How do you incorporate your amps effects loop?
You can use 4CM through any of the MS-3's three loops. If you’re using drive pedals in Loop 1 and Loop 2, then use Loop 3 for 4CM to ensure your drives are running into the front end of your amp.
If you’re using a drive pedal in Loop 1 and a delay pedal in Loop 2, then you should use Loop 2 for 4CM. This will place the preamp of your amplifier between the drive and delay (essentially this means the drive will run into the front of the amp and the delay will run in the amp's effects loop).

Hi, is the delay tappable?
As far as I know, yes. Either using one of the inbuilt switches or with an external one. That will set the tempo for all the effects that take advantage of it.
Does it have good distortion for metal? Are you running through an amp?
This piece seems quite intuitive to use... especially when compared to the pain-in-the-arse tc nova.
Can I use this to change my amp channel from dirty to clean and turn off my overdrive all at same time?
Helmut Koeckritz ...you need a Boss FS-7 Dual foot Switch to do that.
Sure you can, there’s two control outs or midi out (depending on how your amp handles switching) to switch amp channels, so you just create a patch containing this amp ctrl + whatever loop your od pedal is in, and even add a built in fx
Yes!
Is this better than the GT100? And why?
with this you have 3 loops and this is especially switching pedal for external effects

Hello, good review! I'd like to see and listen to more playing. This heavy stomp looks nice for those who wants many effects with an affordable price.

Tom is such an amazing musician but that's one ugly guitar!
It's about the sound not the look.
The prostate stimulator guitar.
There... I said it... LOL!
Bill Hayes it’s so ugly it actually sounds bad.
is the 4 cable method possible?? i mean, I want may delays and reverbs in my fx loop, but I want to run in-build modulations in front of the amp
Yes. L3 send to amp input, L3 return to amp FX send, MS-3 main out to amp FX return.
Yes
This would be perfect for me if it just had a MIDI input.
Hi, thinking about adding to my rig so if anyone can help me here I would appreciate it. Should this run in my effects loop? If I run it and use my amps distortion I wouldn't want my delay and reverbs before it if I hook them in to the effects loops of the ms-3?
Thanks
Me regalaa la viola
Think this would sound good on a Marshall DSL40c?
Sure...the real question is can YOU make it sound good/is this gonna produce the tone that works for your needs?
Any luck?
Pedals trought ms3 sounds awfull...
bla bla bla uf
