      Hi Clyde, that is a huge drop in temperature. Do you think that has something to do with the hurricanes that have been sweeping across the SE states recently?, are you usually that cold at the start of October?. In some southern parts of the UK and Ireland, we can keep plants outside all year as long as humidity levels are addressed. Low 30's at night in Jan and Feb is about as cold as it gets. Cheers.

      Thank you so much Clyde for the amazing Loph texensis seeds with these little cutiepies haha, and they are so adorable and the little pots was perfect size for them haha, we will be bringing them inside to overwinter in the house under the grow lights for their first winter to be on the safe side, WOW yes thats a huge drop in temps, the past few days in Ireland it has been chilly nights and we can definitely feel Winter is on the way, and OMGolly where did the summer go it went as fast as Concorde haha, we have had to bring in the cacti in the yard into the polytunnel yesterday as 41F / 5c was forecast for last night and we had to put the polytunnel heater on, and so happy we did as the outside thermometer was at 3c / 37F this morning BRRRRRR, but a cosy 56F in the polytunnel thank goodness, Good luck with bringing in the plants for the winter, its a back breaking job LOL! we are dreading bringing the big ones into the house again for Winter haha, thanks so much Clyde for your wonderful friendship and amazing support and comment and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you and beautiful Deb and all the pets and plants all lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Morris Park in the Ozarks for a super Sunday today XXXX

      @@demonhalo67 This is a bit unusual this early. I'm not sure if the hurricanes play a roll in this or not. Seems Canada has been sending us some cold fronts this week. We've been in the mid 40s°F at night this week, 60s during the day. But tonight it will get to 38. In the winter here in can drop as cold as single digits below 0. I've been cutting wood every weekend this summer so I'm ready to heat! My wood pile is absolutely HUGE!!! Got all the cactus , Euphorbias and other sensitive plants in the greenhouse and ready! I will up load a video this weekend. Thanks for watching!!! From Morris park in the Ozarks out to the U.K. , have a great day!!! Peace,Love,Plants!!!✌💖🌵🌴🌺🌿🌻🍀🌹

    I have just one Lophophora and they are extremely resilient plants and very slow growing. I acquired it about 2-3 years ago and it barely looks any different to when I bought it. I grow these on the top shelf of my greenhouse in full blazing sun and it seems to enjoy it.
    As far as spineless cacti go these are one of my favourites alongside Cintia Knizei and Blossfeldia. I see some of your older plants can slowly clump and live to a great age as they are grown well. Thanks, J.

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  3 роки тому +1

      Thats wonderful news you have bought a Dragon Fruit cactus Sheila :-D I LOVE these cacti, they are amazing and can grow pretty fast too, you can separate the babies and plant 4-5 of them into the same pot to give them more room to grow, as each one is an individual seedling, but it can be a time consuming task LOL!, you can also keep them all in the same pot for now and then transplant them into groups into pots in the Spring, its best to overwinter warm as they are tropical cacti and need a minimum Winter temperature of 10c / 50F and I bring all my Dragon fruits into the house to overwinter, I do still give these cacti a very slight watering about once every 6 weeks in Winter just enough to stop them from shrivelling, it can take about 2 years for them to harden up their stems, they can be very fleshy when young but harden up as their segments grow larger and they can be fast growers, check out my friend Paul's amazing Dragon Fruit You Tube channel called 'Rare Dragon Fruit' Paul has a fantastic channel dedicated to these Dragon fruit cacti and he is an encyclopaedia for dragon fruit haha, you will love his channel, here is a link to his channel : ua-cam.com/channels/f4edysSvRejunEADWkNUPw.html thanks so much for your wonderful support and comment and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a sunny Sunday ahead XXXX

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  3 роки тому +1

      Thats fantastic news you have 5 baby seedlings :-D its best to leave them under the lid for another couple of months, and then you can slowly remove the lid over a few days to allow the seedlings to acclimatise to the drier air, I usually leave them under the lid or cover for 3 months and then leave the lid half on to allow the young seedlings to acclimatise to the drier air from the outside of the container, good luck with growing your cuties, and thanks so much for your wonderful support and comment and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a sunny Sunday ahead XXXX
