      It is a shame you can't Lophophora williamsii in the USA. They are such cute little toads. Law makers aren't the brightest tacks in the pack. You can however grow other Lophophora species that look the same but are legal in the USA. You will likely have to grow them from seeds though as they are not common nursery plants. You can also grow many other hallucinogenic cactus in the USA, if that's your thing, that aren't illegal.

    Thank you for the tips on winter watering requirements and repotting. I had heard you can actually leave the plants out of the pots to dry out the roots and repot them quite successfully. Apparently it allows the roots to heal and not be affected dampness. I can see that if you repot into completely dry soil the effect is the same. Thanks!

    People talk about growing peyote in a way that makes people think it's the most difficult thing to grow. I have not owned one until a few days ago and I am pretty worried that it will die. I potted it a few days ago and I'm wondering if it's normal for it to become a little soft after potting or around the end of winter like now?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  2 роки тому

      Hi there, yes its very normal for these cacti to feel soft and spongy towards the end of the Winter as they use up their water reserves, as long as the cactus is not rotting and that you did not water it after repotting, as watering straight after repotting can cause these cacti to rot, good luck with your wonderful new cactus, and thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching, sending you lots of PLANT POWER for a terrific Tuesday today XXXX

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  4 роки тому

      Hi Ramana, so happy you love my channel, if your seedlings have fallen over it can be caused from too many things and very difficult to say, but I would check over them very carefully as often seedlings than have fallen over have problems with the roots due to fungus fly larvae ( Sciarid flies ) as these eat the roots and can damage young seedlings, I hope your seedlings will be ok, XXXX

      Hi Dan :-D thanks so much for the video suggestion :-D unfortunately I have never cloned these cacti and would not be the best one to make a vid on this, but I find that when it comes to faster growth, I love to re pot them at least every other year and I fed them with a tomato fertiliser at half strength and also a cactus fertiliser too, and use the cactus fertiliser every 4th watering I give them, and the tomato fertiliser with every 5th watering and between the two feeds they grow pretty good, but the fastest way to grow them is by grafting them onto a rootstock such as Trichocereus, but I have not done this myself

    The first pot you show looks to be a False Peyote cactus. The large one is false but the smaller ones look like L W.
