Hi, I'm not as smart as you. I just got an iMac 24, and I need a way to connect at least 3 regular old USB plugs into it. This one that you're talking about is probably overkill in my situation. I need to plug in a midi keyboard (Aruturia Minilab mk2) and an audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett 8i6), both regular old USB... (And another 1 or 2 ports, just in case) Any suggestions?!

Looks like there isn’t any availability in the US at present. Caldigit states on their website that Amazon should have them back in stock in late October. When I clicked on a link to buy from Europe, the US dollar equivalent was around $350 or so. At that level I begin to think about what else I can do with that money. Perhaps a small FLIR device to attach to my iPhone for infrared views of the sky or landscape at night? Perhaps something nice for my wife at Christmas. I do see the value, and understand it’s expensive, but I think perhaps that the apparent worldwide chip shortage is impacting it’s availability.

is this for macs only?... I tried docking my PC by changing the lid settings, but when I do that it changes my display on my monitor and makes everything look bigger, by tabs in chrome can't be seen and the buttons in the desktop tray are bigger along with the icons, when I undock or raise the lid back up on my PC it goes back to normal, so that's why I was wondering if this would help with that issue, but maybe not if this device is for Apple products only

Hi, that's a really hard questions as they're very different products, the OWC is fully featured. When i tested the OWC, there were a lot of software issues more related to the newness of the M1. My daily driver right now is actually the Caldigit Element and it's been perfect for me. It works so well. That being said, i did need to buy ethernet to usbc adaptor. And if you don't have usbc on your monitor you'll also have to buy an adaptor for that too. I really like Caldigit. @@CHECKTHISOUT-CANADA Great video and I agree that the CalDigit is a nice unit. The difference is about $50 given the current pricing between the two, but the OWC charges at 96W vs the CalDigit only charging at 60W. I was concerned that 60W main not be enough if you are pushing your system hard and also have a full complement of attached devices. Plus after accounting for monitor and ethernet connections you are down to one available Thunderbolt 4 port, while with the OWC you have a dedicated ethernet port so after attaching a monitor you end up with two Thunderbolt ports available but one less USB 3.0 Gen 2 port. I think both are excellent products, but I chose the OWC just for better charging of my MBP M1 Pro and future expansion and having more Thunderbolt 4 port availability. Am I missing something or do you agree with my assessment?

Try using a surge protector etc. If you're losing power to some devices, i'd say possibly you have too many devices which require high bandwidth at the same time. I've used this device extensively and it's worked fantastic. Sorry to hear you're having problems. Also try connecting with Caldigit to see if they have any suggestions.

The prices of these hubs are ridiculous. Apple drove up the price of hubs just by making laptops that are so under ported that the laptops are almost useless without hubs. They are almost a requirement for the M1 Air or Mac Book. $175-$250 for a hub is completely absurd. On top of the near criminal $200 price on a measly 8GB of RAM upgrade and the same for a puny 250GB SSD upgrade is just brigand shit. I guess it isn't as bad as $1000 set of wheels, but this 3rd party Hub market is artificially high. If I wasn't required to use Keynote for work, I'd never buy an Apple again. I won't even dive into how charging through some Hubs is bricking some M1 Macs.

I also use PC but find Apple computer less frustrating to use, and I'm definitely not an Apple fan boy. Anyway, hope you like my future content!

TB3/USB4 Docks need very specific chipsets to work. But if cost is an option and you dont need the 40Gbps thoughput, get a cheap multipurpose USB C dock (with 10Gbps) from Amazon for around £20, that will give you HDMI, USB 3, 1Gb Ethernet etc.
The TB3/USB4 Docks/Hubs are meant for people who need specific features such as extremely high speed storage, 10Gbe etc.
If you think these are underported, wait til you see the Surface X, or SP7 lol and see how much Microsoft charge for RAM or increased storage, they make Apple look cheap as chips.
Not hears of any hubs Bricking M1 Macs for at least 6 months and it involved cheap knock off no name hubs. Apple released a software update (11.2.2) to prevent the dock being able to do that.
