Hi Marcela, one of the first things that I did when I arrived back home after attending the 01011001 shows was starting vocal lessons. I was super inspired by watching you all perform live with such mastery, so I really wanted to explore that side of me a bit more after just singing all the time with no real technique. It's really interesting and fun to see some of the exercises that my vocal teacher has been showing me (like lip trills for example) being used in your warm ups. It's the coolest thing to see how such an amazing singer like yourself is also using these things that I've been learning in my lessons, so I really really love these types of videos! Hope you post more of these! Cheers!
I can still remember Arjen sending me some of your guide vocal tracks when he was rounding up Revel in Time (including Fate of Man). You are such a powerhouse! And sooo bloody consistent in quality. It keeps boggling my mind. The 01011001 shows were exceptionally polished by all performers... your contribution took that to an even deeper shiny gloss. I enjoyed it thoroughly and can't wait for your next perfomance!
Silly me forgot to say YES please, more vocal nerdy stuff! Backing & background re: the 01011001 concert, including all of the backstage trivia, comparisons with the previous 013 concerts, how you & Irene didn't annoy the others at all.. anything you can come up with! Especially like you doing the backing examples alongside the lead vocals. Great stuff! Same re: the "Electric Castle Live & Other Tales" concert. Vocal preparation, challenges during the show(s), backstage gossip.. the works. Maybe Dianne could join you on this? Man, that would make a great "Are We Better F's Yet" special episode, wouldn't it?
Uitslover! Moet je nou weer twee keer een commentaar posten? Alleen maar in de hoop een extra ❤️ te krijgen. Je ken trouwens gewoon Nederlands tegen d’r lullen! LUL!
As if i wasn't convinced of you hitting those high notes in O13...😊 Seriously, you work as a pro while enjoying your art. Ayreon LBTW live was such a mega production that I'm looking forward to the bluerays. Hint to Arjan: better be sure there will be plenty of footage including close ups of the trio on the right upper scaffolding, esp in Ride the Comet... Duo screen with Brittney and the Marcella group? Credit where credit's due! ❤
It was so interesting to see all those warm-ups and vocal preparations. I new the one with the "straw", Floor does that too of course! Amazing to see what you can do with your voice! Respect!
Fascinating. It is no wonder why you are such a powerful and amazing live vocalist. Awesome stuff Marcela. It is the dream of every serious musician and songwriter to have an amazing pro like yourself to bring their music to life. ❣❣
Loved this! It's really interesting to see how you get to to making the backing vocals such an intrinsic part of the Ayreon sound. You're fabulous not just because you're talented, but because you've added imagination and above all hard work to that talent. So impressive!
De show was fantastisch en zou niet hetzelfde zijn zonder jou. Ook je concert op de camping was fantastisch. En het was zo fijn dat je zoveel tijd voor ons, je fans, hebt genomen. Was ook leuk dat Irene erbij was. 🤘🫶
@@missdoom1 hi, you’ve placed your comment under my comment, and that’s fine by me. But in order for Marcela to read it, I suggest you copy and paste it in the regular comment section. Just trying to be helpful!
Jaaaaaa!!!! We want to see and hear more of your vocal exercises. Especially specific parts like you demonstrated in this video (for Ayreon/Brittney). 🤘🐙🤘
Five fantastic shows (we saw the Saturday matinee) AND an open air gig at the Ayreon camping.. Your cords sure had their work cut out for them! As said by others, Ayreon's Angels teaming up with Brittney to produce out of this world harmonies was a real treat. How did others cope backstage? Can imagine some of them joining you in the bubbler warm-up. Would be fun footage for the BD! Might even do a bubbler choir, backing.. dunno.. "Into The Black Hole"? Anyhew, thank you for the music Marcela, we had a wonderful time. Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘 BTW: heard that Joost got my (binary) LUL! t-shirt, haha. Nice! 😁
It's amazing when you breathe through the straw. The sound is really super incredible. I enjoy your video vlogs, it's always super interesting to learn more :) Thank you for your beautiful video Marcela!! It's gold as usual ♥
This was pretty enjoyable to watch and listen to your warmup routines for the Ayreon shows! By the way I loved that MaYaN shoutout. Vocally that can’t be too dissimilar to performing for Arjen Lucassen’s projects. 🤔
So interessting! Love to see /hear what you do to prepare for something like that. That choir of the first tune is so gorgeously made, and it was fun to hear the part you sing! Your high notes are so clean and bright! Knowing that you reach also the deep notes that I am comfortable doing as an alto, as well, makes me think that there cannot be many singers with that range! You are lucky! Many think of it as talent, when it is physical (of course you know this!), but to be able to make it sound good up there or down there is talent (mixed with practice). I sooooo wish I was there. The music is enchanting! And how lucky is mr. Lucassen to have you on board! 💪👏🌹🥳💕😃
Thank you so much for sharing your secrets🎉 I have always been admiring your great performance and wondering how you practice and get ready for the shows and recordings. I would be happy if you could upload more of this kind of videos soon. I am also very interested in what you do and don't do to keep your perfect voice. ...and if possible, some karaoke of your material, too. 😊
Wow Marcela you're just so professionnal, you sing like godess. Really interesting Technical training. Yes i want more. This live was outstanding, hope to see you again.
Falling more and more in love! You were amazing at the camping and I so love your parts on Ride the Comet!!! Thank your for showing more background information we fans love so much!
Such a great show and I was so impressed by everybody's performances! Thanks for a cool bit of behind-the-scenes. Just hearing it once I thought "Starblade" was one of the highest parts, but perhaps that's just the effect of it attacking out of nowhere :D
Oh I forgot about Starblade! We also randomly shout out Starblade in the backstage 😂 That's also an A5 like the higher note of the Fate of Man backings🙃
I’m constantly impressed by your vocal range and your ability to go from a light airy vocal quality to an authoritative but clean weight without missing a beat. I’ve heard you referred to a a mezzo-soprano, but your range easily extends beyond that from what I’ve heard you do in performance. Quick question? I remember seeing you play violin at one point. I think it was when you were with Stream of Passion. Do you still play it?
Thanks for your kind words! I think I’m more of a lyric soprano, but I can do a very decent mezzo impersonation 😛 I play a bit of violin still, but only for the Stream of Passion obligatory duties to be honest. The more I develop my voice the more the violin feels limiting for me, as I don’t even remotely have the same skill level on tat instrument 🙈
These kind of informal, helpful videos are wonderful. (I'm not a vocalist, not even close. But I would like to work on my voice so I do not fall into the typical American Fry-Only voice. Very good. And hearing the high parts IN ISOLATION gives me a whole new level of respect for what it takes to be you. I enjoyed listening.
Suuuper interesting and definitely inspiring me to keep practicing! Would love more video's!🥰 I started taking singing lessons because of a workshop I once participated in when you were training to be a Universal Voice teacher!
Before watvhing this video I had no clue how much preperation is needed and how you prepared for a show. I thought learning the text and timings by singing it over and over again in your home studio was all. And than maybe a couple of minutes some sining before the show to get your voice ready. I definitely learned something today.
Fascinating to see your process! You always sound so great. Of course there is so much preparation that goes into it. Wish I could have been at the show but I look forward to the recording.

These are some insane notes you were hitting there... But why did you not ask them to give you slightly lower notes to sing...? I don't know if you're like that too, but whistle register can be really hit or miss at least from my experience... I tried to sing along your exercises and really struggled with some of it. Were you not worried you could potentially not hit the note in the shows themselves?
Well, I kinda chose the parts myself! I sung it on the Ayreon Universe show already, so I knew I could do it; but it still made me a bit nervous. So I just made sure I warmed up for it before every show, and tried to hit at least 2 half steps above it to be sure I could get it 😊
@@MarcelaBovio Wow, that's quite insane... But you're no ordinary singer if you get what I mean... Everybody talks about how versatile Floor Jansen is (one of my favourite singers of all time) but you and Dianne van Giersbergen get overlooked sometimes. You could literally sing all the parts of Saints Never Die on your own.
Are you kidding me ? It`s awesome ! It is kinda overall, just a hint. But if it pleases you, maybe it is the mix of English and Mexican.... Nevertheless, i hear Dutch is an awefull language to learn, so be proud of it !!@@MarcelaBovio😘
