I love how this movie slowly goes insane over its run. It starts out as a semi-realistic family story about a neglectful dad trying to win over his son with the hot toy of the season, has him going to stores and fighting other parents, but then slowly descends into madness with ninja santas, mail-bombs, and reindeer, and then absolutely loses it by having Arnie become a super hero flying around on a jetpack.

Minnesotans are they type of people who will get angry trying to be nice. Ex. Multiple people stop at a four way stop, everyone will try to let someone else go first until everyone is angry that no one is moving. The longest I’ve seen this happen for was 5 minutes

It was his wife pissed off about his cheating affairs. So basically in this movie, he's not hiding anything from his wife, it's all on display for her to see. This movie probably was the trigger that set her off. 🤔

But his job as a father is played for laughs in this movie. Here's my response to Cinamasins' comment at 4:54 - 5:01 - Back in the mid 90s, when seeking a particular higher quality item of merchandise, be is an item of clothing, artifact, etc., a boutique store was often thought of as the preference over going to a large retail outlet like Walmart. However, with a popular toy or doll for a kid, larger retail outlets were just as good if not better, including the latest most popular doll like Turboman. But Arnie's character didn't appear to know that, which seemed to be another example of how clueless his character in this movie was. He was another one of those movie fathers always so buried in Office work that he lacked simple common sense regarding many things in life unrelated to his career, such as not realizing that a popular toy for kids less than a week before Christmas is going to be frickin sold out. I would've thought that even Arnie would grasp that simple bit of common sense, but like I said, for comedy purposes the writers wanted to make him contain a comical level of aloof ignorance for laughs.

Cop stopping Liz when child climbs the ladder and says it’s part of the show: does it seriously entail a minor to climb up a building ladder while getting chased by a deranged mailman? Also no cop radios for help when 2 civilians dangle from that Christmas tree Howard in that turbo man suit: Howard obviously did not know the cinematography before flying amok like iron man but when he sees his kid he suddenly figures out the controls? Cops arrest Myron: How did the cops Miss everything from the child climbing the ladder to the two dangling for their lives? Movie and it’s ending in a nutshell: This movie is HOOK +THE SANTA CLAUSE
The whole telling him 2 weeks ago without checking in never made sense to me. 2 weeks ago is still 1 week late of cyber Monday & 2 weeks late of Black Friday. Also did she work, because as pointed out she could've skipped the middle man and gotten the toy herself, not sure why she'd expect Howard who's supposed to be some big exec to have free time during one of the busiest times of the year, he was working while the rest of the office was having a party. Also if the toy was being sold for the holiday season, wouldn't it have been in stores since November, why did she wait till December to ask him to get it. If the company releasing the toy waited till December they would be losing money.

Amazing thing about this movie, is that the diner in that scene really exists. It was also featured in the first mighty ducks film. Being a guy that lives in Wisconsin right on the border of Minnesota and St. Paul and Minneapolis, it's pretty fun to go to, and it really gets you nostalgic.
Idc if it's the accepted term and/ or interchangeable with the term, "action figure." "Doll" should not be used as it's used in this movie. Also, I love what you did with this video! I recently saw this again after many years, and it was in no way nearly as good as I thought I'd remembered it! Phil Hartman forced you to love/loathe versions of himself that he made his characters be like. I feel like that's a much more admirable acting skill than us liking or hating a character for the way a good actor played them.

As dad to an 8-year-old who takes taekwondo, that was a pretty accurate depiction of the kid explaining why purple belt is so important.

Also did she work, because as pointed out she could've skipped the middle man and gotten the toy herself, not sure why she'd expect Howard who's supposed to be some big exec to have free time during one of the busiest times of the year, he was working while the rest of the office was having a party. Also if the toy was being sold for the holiday season, wouldn't it have been in stores since November, why did she wait till December to ask him to get it. If the company releasing the toy waited till December they would be losing money.

Amazing thing about this movie, is that the diner in that scene really exists. It was also featured in the first mighty ducks film. Being a guy that lives in Wisconsin right on the border of Minnesota and St. Paul and Minneapolis, it's pretty fun to go to, and it really gets you nostalgic.

This is one of my all-time favorite Christmas movies.
Sin number 107: I agree. If Ted actually cares about his house, he should've put out the fire from the fireplace and have anything electric off. Having a reindeer as a pet is stupid and if he doesn't care about his son, his divorced wife would treat Johnny better and NOT be like his father.
Man do I miss Phil Hartman, as he was such a great comedian in this and everything he's ever done, and I've never excepted his passing as much like raul julia, as we should have gotten a good 30 years more out of both of them, and ontop of that I saw this thing in theaters and loved every minute of it with my dad way back when as a kid, as if you hate this film, theirs something wrong with you, its just a fact lol
Phil Hartman forced you to love/loathe versions of himself that he made his characters be like. I feel like that's a much more admirable acting skill than us liking or hating a character for the way a good actor played them.
At a time, I didn't know he was murdered and kept wondering why I haven't seen him in any films lately. 🤔
