How to fix stuck luggage handle!

- The date was Thursday April 0, 2019. I had just arrived in San Francisco and was on the Bart Simpson train to meet a buddyroo. As the doors closed and I settled in my seat, I went to lower my handle. It was stuck halfway. I furiously jimmy jangled the handle to no avail. It just wouldn't go down. Eventually I reached into the bag and felt around the lining. To my disbelief, a rhino lizard horn was impeding the progress of the handle. I put that lil lizard in its place and now we can all talk about it.

I fell on the way to meet Mrs. CheapAssReviews for lunch last Thursday. It was on a crowded street in a thick group of people. One girl laughed and ushered her friend away, that didn't hurt so bad, not like the guy. That one stung. He gave me a real dirty look and he kept on giving me that look for two whole blocks. Looking back over the collar of his hounds tooth jack like I was some sort of low life degenerate. Well jokes on him--I know how to fix the handle on carry-on luggage.

I was already getting embarrassed by holding up a line because i couldnt put my luggage up the cabin! I placed it there with the handles still up 😅😂 so as not to hold the line. But tried to fix the issue with like this and it did.

This worked great. What I used was "true" duct tape. The kind that is like a heavy duty tin foil. It is much more durable but also flexible and hopefully last a lot longer. Thanks for the video.

For those who aren't able to get this to work, make sure that the folded tape properly fits into the small hole, but also that it doesn't get lost inside the tunnel of that long bar and that it's held in place properly by the tape over it.
Man I found it on a sidewalk and said it was free. The only thing that wasn’t working was the handle and this just helped it lmao. Tape always gets the job done ✅ 🥴
Thank you, @OneCheapEric! The handle wouldn't retract on two of our older but too-sentimental-to-get-rid-of carryon suitcases. Worked like a charm on my wife's. Similar but decidedly different issue with the one on mine. Will figure it out and LYK what was the issue.

First time I saw. Was amazed that you had a way to temporary fix. I’m going to try it out but have to ask my daughter first. It was hers. Thank you. If I try this I hope it lasts a long time. Otherwise if under warranty might be something to consider first.
I didn’t believe it would work, but it did. Works in reverse too! if it’s stuck down, open it up and tape over the hole so it can’t lock in. it will then be permanently loose, but it’s infinitely better than no handle.
Me and my family were ik the middle of the airport and couldnt get the handle down, we were flying with fricking Ryanair... my dad was getting pissed of. After half an hour i searched this up and it worked. Can't thank you enough🙌

I have the same roll-aboard, same problem. I opened the thing up. Removed the assembly, added a tiny drop of 3-in-1 oil at each hole. Things got about 40/60 working over sticking. So I took a Dremel and rounded over the edges of the hole that the lizard/rhino horns come through, and ever so slightly beveled the side of the lizard/rhino horn itself. So far so good, we’ll see if it lasts and I don’t end up cussing out my luggage again on a crowded flight with people trying to get past me.

To fix, I pressed the button on the handle, and sprayed WD40 into the holes along the length of the handle. I quickly opened and closed it, so the WD40 could spread around in the interior. Now, it works!

Been struggling with my luggage in my trips for the last 1-2ish years of trip. Either i successfully push the handle down or not at all. I always spend time in the boarding gate pushing it down and board the plane without retracting the handle. Thanks for this video!
You are a genius! I placed a dime against the button to keep in place and wrapped it with duct tape. In the meantime, I'm going to make a claim with samsonite to fix this issue. Thank you!

I spilled shampoo in my luggage, and after hosing it out and letting it dry, something inside must have gotten rusty inside the sliding handle. Thanks for showing me an easy fix! The button for me is right near the top so I can easily slide my hand in there and press the button down manually, instead of keeping it taped down. Better than having to buy a whole new suitcase, at least for now 😝
