Girl power!!! Thank you for taking the time to make this video! We were going to toss our suitcase because the handle wouldn’t come out. After watching your video, we discovered the little rod inside the handle had come separated from the push piece. So we superglued it in and it works now! So great! No parts needed!
Thank you for the video Robin! When unscrewing the handle, I observed that the telescopic tubes of my luggage were bended. That prevented these to slide freely inside the fixed tubes... (never carry a heavy luggage in the stairs with the telescopic handle out...). By playing with the pushing metal rod, I was able to identify at which section and towards which direction each telescopic tube needed to be bended to recover its straight line. Placing the tube fully out, holding it with pliers at the location to be bended, using the other hand and muscles to push on the top extremity of the tube with the relevant but careful amount of bending force, and holding the pressure for a few seconds, it went back straight. Same with the second tube. Screwing back the whole mechanism made it back to a fully functionnal luggage. Your video was much helpful to dare, merci!
Thanks for taking the time to put up this video. It allowed me to fix my handle rather than replacing my luggage. The burr on the rod was surprising, and once removed...good as new!!
Your a life saver!. I have the YETI Luggage and this happen to me, one side would not come up. Almost disassembled the whole bag trying to fix it before i found your video. Finally seen the small screws and pulled out rods and put them back and it started working like new....very simple fix. Thank you!!!
On vacation, suitcase handle wont slide out. The hotel staff was kind enough to lend me a screwdriver and cheered when we brought the suitcase down functional. Thanks for the straightforward video.
Thank you! Super helpful. Brand new suitcase and one of the pins didn't engage. I didn't want to go to the hassle of returning it. Your video save me so much time.
Thank you!! I was literally about to take my (really handy) little weekend bag to the tip - but thought I'd check first to see if there was a simple way to fix it - and there you were. I didn't even have to pull out the whole mechanism - I realised that one of the little prongs that control how far you can pull the handle up was jammed in one of the holes before I even removed the whole thing (mine is a cheapo bag so the hole is right through the housing) - fixed that and it works like a dream again!
Thank you for video, it took about hour but I was relying on my cat to remember how it came apart. But all she did is loose screws. Removing long rails from plastic anchors did take wiggling. All good and ready for next trip 💥 Paul in Victorville, Ca
Thanks - I had the same problem, burrs on the ends of the rods. I filed them off and the handle started working again. Couldn't have done it with that little gem of data. Thanks for posting.
Thanks much for the inspiration. Good hints for getting me to tackle a similar issue. In my case it required a slightly different solution because I have a TravelPro case plus i suggest a few other steps while doing this. First, i didn't have a cable but a rod with a plastic push plate at the bottom of it. for some unknown reason (wear from years of significant use?), one side didn't engage the pin sufficiently so I added some heavy duty tape to the bottom to fix that. I also applied some silicone lubricant to components because my handle telescopes out in stages and the two sides weren't sliding the same. Hint. wipe off the silicone gently to reduce potential drippage inside the case or use "dry" silicone. Lastly, when i unzipped the bottom cover of the suitcase, i found a loose screw. I saw that it was 1 of six screws (3 ea side) holding the handle on. i reinstalled it and tightened the other 5 which were also loose. be careful not to overtighten because I am guessing they are going into plastic.
Just perfect. My handle lever was broken due to excessive tension on the plastic. I put some quick fix glue and also reinforced the tension side by gluing some steel strands to it. Works fine now.
My repair need was like yours. I noticed when I removed the innermost "button bar" that it snagged on one of the guide posts because a little piece of plastic sticking out on the post. I filed it away to make it smooth before completing the repair. I think Kichapps is spot on about supporting the sides of that plastic bar with metal. I used an epoxy putty (good for plastic) and embedded heavy wire within. (Like rebar in concrete on a tiny scale). Be sure there's room inside the next component for your repair work. I'm also going to follow others' suggestion to pad the bottom of the feet inside the poles with duct tape to increase springy tension, and add silicone lubricant to the moving components.
Thank you so much! Although the insude of my suitcase does not have a zipper compartment to open up I felt around and it was the pin that was sticking. I’m not willing to open up the inside of the lining, because it’s too nice, but at least I know that I can just push the pin back in. So thanks for your help!
NIce video, very useful. But wouldn't it be easier to just unscrew the screws, etc. without disassembling the whole thing first? As it was, it seems one of the 'buttons' in the bottom half of the handle is stuck, so the search for a fix continues. Thanks for this video!
I only had a regular file, no nail file. I was told a woman might have a nail file. So I met one online and took her out for dinner a few times and we got engaged and then married, only to find out she had no nail file. SO we divorced but thankfully she had a sister I could date. Being the wiser, I asked if she had a nail file and indeed she did. So after a trusting 2 year marriage, she let me use it to repair my suitcase. But I broke the nail file and am now paying double alimony. (excellent video btw)
The telescopic bars on my suitcase work a little differently and are riveted to the case. The plastic foot that pushes the knobs in at the end of one of the rods was broken. I had to find a replacement part to act as the foot. Why they don't just weld a big foot to the rod is someone's secret.
Out of curiosity, what was the point of taking the mechanism out of the bag to begin with. It seems as if though you could access all of this with the mechanism still in the bag.
It doesn’t surprise me that the case your fixing is an Antler case. I generally like mine but I’ve had two replacements under warranty because of the handle failing and now the third has failed too. Very disappointing
awesome video but after doing this also , one of the locking thing is not going inside, it is still out thus locked and resulting in handle not going down
Hi, I tried your method but haven't been able to loosen and disconnect the rods from the bottom of the suitcase. I'm hoping that between the filling and the oil it works.
Mine cant be fixed. took the handle off and the little plastic plunger was shattered into bits. It fell out of the main body of the handle in parts. If you could advice what to do. My bag is Dj vinyl bag and it looks like the handle is molded into the main frame and can1t be taken off . My bag is a Magma LP100
Did you use extra pieces that you bought? I didn't understand quite well. I have an American tourister suitcase and the telescopic handle is broken. Don't have the budget to buy another one.
crickey I'm not certain. But they retract when the button is pressed that pushes the rods downwards and whilst pushed they are in retraction so can slide the handle to desired length until button released which lets the knoblets ping out the next hole they come to, where they cause the rod to lock. that wasnt the best explanation sorry. good luck.
How about if the telescopic handle is too loose? For example, it won’t stand up? I’m having a problem with my vanity mirror (2 telescopic poles that are SUPPOSED to adjust to whatever length/height necessary to hang it anywhere) help?
@Robyn Wren sid you ever figure out after fixing it why it was still jamming? And the problem with my suitcase is the button wont push down any suggestions on what it my be? Do i still have to take it all apart?
You might want to think about doing an actual complete removal instruction before your repair instruction meaning showing where each screw is and showing taking the screw out
The top set of handle locks seems to work fine, but the bottom set that you normally can’t see because it’s inside the suitcase part don’t work. When it’s fully extended it will go down just fine until it gets to the halfway part and then gets stuck. Then I have to wiggle it to get it to close. Will this help this situation?
Nah mate, your diagnosis is completely wrong. The metal bar you had a tough time pulling out is never supposed to come out of that hole during use or any other time for that matter. When you push down on the top handle button, that engages the metal bars to be pushed. At the bottom of the metal bars is a plastic foot that engages the lockout mechanism at different stages. Although you may have fixed simply by taking it apart and freeing up some other debris, you filing down a bur on the top of that rod had zero part in fixing your issue. Again...that rod should never come out of that hole, just imagine how tough it would be for the rod to go back into that hole as loose as it is floating around in that sliders.
Girl power!!! Thank you for taking the time to make this video! We were going to toss our suitcase because the handle wouldn’t come out. Awesome. Saved $ and from landfill. Well done with perservering

You persisted and got rewarded. 👍 👌
That’s exactly how I wrecked my telescoping handle! I’m glad I’m not the only ! I haven’t yet been able to get the inner rod out yet…
Thanks for taking the time to put up this video. It allowed me to fix my handle rather than replacing my luggage. The burr on the rod was surprising, and once removed...good as new!!

Thank you so much for this video. Helped me fixed my luggage rather than spending hundreds on a new one!

Thank you! Super helpful. Brand new suitcase and one of the pins didn't engage. I didn't want to go to the hassle of returning it. Your video save me so much time.
I had this happen to a suitcase I’ve used literally just about 5 times and your video helped me fixed my “like new” suitcase !!
Thanks for your video I was stuck in Paris with a handle that wouldn't go down and your video saved me !
Glad I could help!❤

Haha. A feline 'helper' you know she's a genius and lost stuff out of spite. 😄 🐈
Thank you for making this how-to video, Robyn! You helped me fix my stuck handle on a Samsonite rollerboard!
What a nicely done DIYer. Was expecting her to toot out "Just a Spoonful of Sugar" it's that simple.
Omg thank you! I bought a $300 suitcase for $19. When I got home it wasn’t working and this saved me!
Thank you Robyn.......I am in full agreement with the other posts.....fixed my bag in 10 minutes....thank you so much for your video
Thanks for the vid. I found a dash of oil on the button was all that our sticking handle needed.
Thanks - I had the same problem, burrs on the ends of the rods. I filed them off and the handle started working again. Couldn't have done it with that little gem of data. Thanks for posting.
You gave me the confidence to give my bag a go! For mine the entire mechanism was bent, and I needed to bend it back where it belonged.
Thank you! You're a hero! Fixed my suitcase for free, almost threw it away and bought a new one.
Thank you! You saved me from having to get a new suitcase right before a trip.
Robyn, you're the best, thank you for the excellent and empowering video!!
shux thanx YOU'RE the best for having a crack to avoid land fill and save $

silicon lube good idea

Don’t even have this suitcase but this video made me feel like I could fix things so I’m watching thru anyways
Thank you! for the most helpful DIY video! Thanks to your easy to follow instructions, I repaired it myself:)
yay good on you save $$ too
Nice I need to do this with mine. Side note: I could listen to your accent all day! Thanks!
Did the handle really have to come all the way out to do this? I'm thinking some of the trouble may have been unnecessary...?
Made the viewing easier !
I fixed my luggage handle thanks to this :) I really appreciate you making this video!
Fantastic, but why did u completely take the unit out rather than just the handle?
Wow, so easily explained, excellent! Thank You!
Thank you for the celo tap suggestion on your website! It worked like a champ!
Many thank Robin, finally repaired my suitcase.
in my case the button plastic was cracked , but your video really helped. Thank you Robyn!
Try repairing it with a 5 minute epoxy and re-assemble as described.
Thanks Robyn.YOu are brilliant.I fixed my handle.What a legend!
now reward yourself with an little prezzy with the $ saved hahar
Thank you for this video! Ita inspired me yo repair my laptop bag instead of replacing it.
NIce video, very useful. But wouldn't it be easier to just unscrew the screws, etc. without disassembling the whole thing first? As it was, it seems one of the 'buttons' in the bottom half of the handle is stuck, so the search for a fix continues. Thanks for this video!
Thanks Robyn for making this video!
One side is actually bent. I will keep playing with it. Thanks for your video
Many thanks - was more complicated but you gave me the courage to try and I managed to fix it. Thank you.
omg you saved my wittchen suitcase! 🤣❤️
Thanks Robin, very useful.
Amazing! I have the exact same suitcase and the exact same thing was happening. All fixed! Thank you!
Thanks! The only video that truly helped fixed my carry-on
I only had a regular file, no nail file. I was told a woman might have a nail file. Thank you so much for your help you saved my time and keep doing good work 👏 and you are inspirational ❤
worked perfectly. Thanks a lot.
Omgg thank you. I fixed my suitcase in like 10 sec.. yaaayyy
I will try this out. Thank you
That’s nice for that specific bag however there are some many different versions of these mechanisms this might not work for every bag.
This was an unnecessary comment since the title lists a specific handle.
Thanks for the video
Can you please share how to add ball in this handle if it's lost somewhere
Robyn Wren -- Good idea for a video. It would go together a lot smoother having two people on reassembly. Learn first, then teach.
What's with all the noise? Thank you for your help!
You rock dude! Thanks!
The telescopic bars on my suitcase work a little differently and are riveted to the case. The plastic foot that pushes the knobs in at the end of one of the rods was broken. I had to find a replacement part to act as the foot. Why they don't just weld a big foot to the rod is someone's secret.
Hello do you really need to take the whole thing about from the luggage before opening the handle?
Thanks ! helped me fix mine, i just didn't know what to expect opening the suitcase but you made it look easy enough :)
Sunsen's extendable luggage handle-9U08EG-E5 is of high quality. Sunsen can supply it in a large quantity~
awfully annoying to hear the hammer tapping in the background
Out of curiosity, what was the point of taking the mechanism out of the bag to begin with. It seems as if though you could access all of this with the mechanism still in the bag.
It doesn’t surprise me that the case your fixing is an Antler case. I generally like mine but I’ve had two replacements under warranty because of the handle failing and now the third has failed too. Very disappointing
Thank you very much! It totally helped me!
You just saved my trip!! Haha!! THANK YOU
Many thx,I fixed it!
Thanks for the video. Just a question, why did you fit the entire assembly out when o my the handle needed the fix?
awesome video but after doing this also , one of the locking thing is not going inside, it is still out thus locked and resulting in handle not going down
Radhika Agrawal I have the exact same issue. Unfortunately this video did not help me.
Wow, this worked. Thank you!
Thank you!!°° fixed my bag just like u said
Hi, I tried your method but haven't been able to loosen and disconnect the rods from the bottom of the suitcase. I'm hoping that between the filling and the oil it works.

Did you use extra pieces that you bought? I didn't understand quite well. I have an American tourister suitcase and the telescopic handle is broken. Don't have the budget to buy another one.
Always seem to show the easy stuff, my buttons work but the slide is very hard to pull up or down
Just wondering if everything is in the handle p, do you really need to take it apart?
how does the button lockers move back inside the tube when you press the handle button to retract or extend it
crickey I'm not certain. But they retract when the button is pressed that pushes the rods downwards and whilst pushed they are in retraction so can slide the handle to desired length until button released which lets the knoblets ping out the next hole they come to, where they cause the rod to lock. that wasnt the best explanation sorry. good luck.
Awesome, thank you Robyn!
Your awesome i fixed mine tuve was bended
I tried to pull cable out of the handle on my Samsonite , like you said , but all it did was destroy the mechanism inside the handle . Thanks
Good job
How about if the telescopic handle is too loose? For example, it won’t stand up? I’m having a problem with my vanity mirror (2 telescopic poles that are SUPPOSED to adjust to whatever length/height necessary to hang it anywhere) help?
@Robyn Wren sid you ever figure out after fixing it why it was still jamming? And the problem with my suitcase is the button wont push down any suggestions on what it my be? Do i still have to take it all apart?
Also, why did you remove the whole mechanism when you could have just removed the handle be extending it up a little?
You might want to think about doing an actual complete removal instruction before your repair instruction meaning showing where each screw is and showing taking the screw out
Nice video, only the top of the handle in my case is bolted, not screwed... so cannot really remove it without destroying the handle :(
I just put tape on it and it worked just fine and less work
How about if the handle no longer locks into place when extended? It goes up and down fine. It just wont stay up.
Same with me, can't figure it out. The bottom pins are on the opposite side on the tube and don't seem to be co trolled by the rods
I wanted to watch this but the noise was too irritating
Thx!
thanks
Thanks for that,I have a perfect good one,and I lend it to a friend🤔and it broken!,👀👍
Weird one - the tubes extend fully when I take the handle off but not when I screw it back on. Does anyone have any suggestions?
very nice
What do you do when one of the inside rods is missing?
You seriously considered cutting off something that didn't fit in? Interesting.......
It was helpful in putting in the stuck handle but now it is not Coming out 😭
darn Maybe try again, but it is tedious I know. When I did the demo vid it was tighter than I wanted and stuck a little occasionally.
vary nice
no the whole mechanism doesn't come out
Nah mate, your diagnosis is completely wrong. The metal bar you had a tough time pulling out is never supposed to come out of that hole during use or any other time for that matter.
