Don't trust the color. It depends on your installer
This...when installing a replacement thermostat all that matters is where on the old thermostat the wire was connected. Thermostat terminals are more standardized than the wire colors.
True, copper is copper the color coating just helps to get from point A to B .
When you see a black or brown being used and a color not being used or cut short then that explains it
Unless you wanna be a evil person and change all the colors and make it hell for a new tech or a senior tech get an heart attack
@@killer2600what if the old thermostat is wired wrong
So much wrong here.
W is call for heat. Does not matter if it's electric or gas.
G is fan on/off, it dose not change speed, that's done on the control board in the unit.
Y is not for the "compressor", it's call for cooling, a separate wire goes from the indoor unit to the outdoor unit.
C is common, but not all thermostats require it, most run on alkaline batteries.
where does my black wire go ?
Don't even tell him
@@huntermuir833Most time it's either not used/spare wire. It's usually used for stage 2.
I had a problem I have an electric heater but I couldn’t plug it in my W wire because when I did and turned the cool on it blew out hot air only so I read up and it said to plug it into the O/B wire and it started blowing cool is this normal.
y is technically compressor contactor for cooling.
c is common and many res does need it when code calls for it to be hardwired as well as battery.
g is blower fan relay.
w is heat valve or relay for heating.
o is heat pump energized in cooling
b is heat pump energized in heating..
Florida people:
The units are called heat pumps
R-24volts
C- negative (-)blue wire
Y-to kick on your compressor/heatpump outside unit
W-heat strips (winter time)
O- when it gets 24v from the thermostat it goes into cooling mode (if you own a rheem or rude ignore this)
G- is to turn on your indoor unit (blower)
Black and brown are extra wires
If you have different colors being used on a good running unit dont question it.. if its different its for a reason sometimes in the 500feet roll of thermostat wire factorys sell the roll with broken wires or in new construction the wires get caught with a nail or drywall people destroy the wires somewhere
So mostly it takes 6 wires to run the air conditioner 2 extra wires for additional equipment or broken or damaged wires
What if you have a black wire and no brown wire?
down here in south carolina they dont give a shit what wire goes where
What if I have E the black one?
Made it easy thx😊🌍🤔
This was wonderful, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video
Mine has 12v Red , GND Blue, C Yellow, D white . Now how to I link these to Smart thermostat that have no Ground or 12v label ?
Thanks 🙏🏾
What is y1 y2 w2 color
Estas cores estão ligadas assim correspondente as letras no meu antigo thermostat, vou ligar igual, só espero que não pegue fogo 🔥 kkkk… valeu 😅obrigado pelo vídeo.
BUT what is that second white wire that is going from RH to RC?? I have a 2nd red wire doing the same thing????
its just a jumper cable that connect the Heating and the cooling circuit, this is used so that the thermostat can switch between heat and cool and you dont need to run a separate wire back to your air handler.
My brother tried to change thermostat to eco bee but said he couldn't install due to c wire missing .. any advice 😢
Sometimes the c wire is cut off. Peel back the insulation and check if the blue wire is there. I have another video explaining this.
I have one red wire from the wall but on my thermostat there a red small wire running from R to Rc and idk why?
It is a jumper cable so that heating and cooling have power. That is normal.
I just bought a new home and the thermostat drives me crazy because when I try to turn it off the the only two fan settings are off or automatic so the fan is always one. If anyone can help me with this I would appreciate it
thanks bro
No problem
Don’t do this at home😂 you might have no ac or heat when needed.
What about if the unit is wired to a smoke detector?
That doesn't tell me how it works
Thank you, this is a very useful video.
does the red wire go to RH or RC
Rc
@@DeaninItYourself got a heat pump and the white wire is connected to W2 and the black wire is connected to W/E
@@DeaninItYourself something is causing cold air to come from the vents during defrost mode
There is no specific wire color
Yes if ur an asshole you can use white as a 120v hot leg as well
We all know colors smh
Good to know
What about S1 and S2
Sensors
Fan speed 😂😂😂😂
wow
Yikes hes right on where to put ‘em if they’re labeled right, sometimes you can have 2 red and white wires and ppl wouldn’t know. He’s describing this all wrong. Unless you have an ecobee thermostat (only ones I’ve seen so far) where you need to actually go inside the furnace and put your thermostat into their wires and then plug that into your thermostat terminals on your furnace. Your best bet is just buy one that’s simple and take a picture and do one wire at a time
Instructions unclear. managed to stop the bleeding, waiting for new instructions.
Stay tuned, I will do a much clearer video.
how the compressor blow up.
