I read in an article the safest way to wash residue & pesticides off of fruit etc is to let soak in a baking soda bath for at least 15 minutes. OH ! MY ! GOODNESS!! YOU CAN'T IMAGINE what the water LOOKED LIKE!! 😱. It really does the trick !
Wonderful blessing on a sunny Sunday morning. Thank you Jesus. You have a special presence that comes right through the screen. You know the benefit of you efforts last through eternity for all. And I do see and know what a blessing it is. I can hardly wait to see and understand more Jesus. He told us to prepare. Thank you and your family for helping me and my family do just that. Keep your blessed day goin.
I zest the ends of my oranges and add to a jar of finely powdered salt, ( I keep adding to it like with bacon grease ) it’s great mixed with a little coconut oil for removing sticker gunk or sprinkled on a cutting board along with lemon zest salt and herbs to remove odor and provide a gentle scrub. There’s a lot of applications really. I Then I put the rest of the end in vinegar like you did and when they’re done infusing, I throw them in the bottom of my dishwasher with a little baking soda and run a cleaning cycle or throw them in the garbage disposal with a little ice. My husband tells me that I expect everything to work as hard as I do and Honey, he’s not wrong!
I found 12 oranges for $2.99 this year @ Krogers (great buy!). Loved watching your tips/ideas/advice, from a year ago. I have a Rosemary plant, which I enjoy year round in the house, on cold, windy, snowy Winter days in eastern, central Wisconsin! Thanks a lot! Happy 2023...
Your videos are amazing and I really appreciate all the effort you put into researching and showing the details like the different meals you prepared. Most would just say what they cooked.
I really need to eat before I watch your videos because I’m always hungry at the end lol. As always another awesome food prep/canning video, thanks Cassandra! Have a great day.
Sharen! It’s so good to see you my friend! Isn’t that the best thing about canning….that you get to eat so good? Happy New Year!! You’re such a great, special friend!
I just discovered you and I just love you! I was looking tonsee how to preserve oranges and peels and found you here. Excited to learn so much more. Thank you for what you do.
Hi Cassandra! You are such a pleasure to watch, on point with a plethora of ideas. So glad I found you from comment you made on Fermented Homesteads channel. Can’t wait to see more of your content, I immediately signed up for your e-mails. Thank you for all the great suggestions-will be canning orange honey very soon! Be well
Hello Freedom Jam (love the name). I have fallen down a fermentation rabbit hole and it’s been so delicious! My emails won’t spam you (about 2-3 recipes a month) it’s mostly to have an archive where you don’t have to find my video each time. Canning has changed my life! We eat cheaper, healthier and more deliciously than we ever have. You won’t be disappointed with this recipe! Thank hablar you for saying hello!! It’s always lovely to know who I’m “talking to”!! Best wishes in the new year!
I love everything orange! This looks delicious! I need to make this! Everything you show how to make looks so delicious as always! I would eat everything you make!
I made this delicious recipe yesterday! Although, mine isn’t nearly as pretty as yours😅. I used (what I had on hand) ground cloves and allspice; made my end product much darker, but, the flavor is still great; had it on top of oatmeal and yogurt this morning and it was yummy. Next time I will use whole cloves, allspice & cinnamon and try to achieve the “Farmgirl” result❤Thanks for such a great recipe!!!!
Cassandra, I have my large juicy oranges just waiting to be preserved. I love this recipe. Simple is always best isn't it. Tomorrow is New Year's Day and I can't think of anything better than canning a new recipe or an old one for that matter. I can't wait to see what you have for us in 2022. Happy New Year.
So true, simple is best. I’m so happy you’ll be ringing in the new year with this recipe! I hope you enjoy them and find even more delicious ways to use them in meals and beverages. Happy New Year and yes, I have lots more in store!
Made this last week and I love it. I use a jar last night as part of the marinade for my chicken then bast the juices on the chicken. It was so good. Thanks for sharing. I love your channel!!
thanks this video helped me tonight to do this. I have the same book but i’m a visual learner. I put too much vanilla in mines and I didn’t like the sauce.
What is the best time of year for oranges. I have only found some pithy ones which was a huge disappointment. I don't live in Orange country so I must depend on groceries! This recipe looks so delicious!!!!
Hi Mamma Bear! This recipe comes together so quickly and who knew you could do so much with honey orange slices. It’s a keeper recipe for sure. Happy to hear this is one you want to try!
I just made this. I can't believe how goooood it is. The vanilla is a great addition. I did leave out the cloves and allspice...coouldn't find them. After tasting the syrup and now addicted to it, I'm thinking it would be great using it in baklava...may be too runny though.
I love these ideas! I’m going to put these to good use. Off topic but at 5:21, what brand are those jeans because they look cute and comfy and I need cute and comfy in my life 😋
How are you sure what to do with the things that you can! I saw some pineapple jam at a vendor fair recently and I was telling people so many different ways it can be used in just jam and none of them had a flu and we’re super excited. It’s sold the gym. I am looking forward to some of your recipes being on my vendor stand this year. Thank you so much!
I agree! There are so many ways I’ve used my home canned recipes as perfectly delicious substitutes in refueled Im mimicking or have learned from other canners and cookbooks. I’m so glad to hear you also find multiple ways to use jams and jellies!
Hi Amy! Roughly November through April depending on variety. You and me both-I truly overlooked this recipe multiple times , but as you saw there are so many delicious ways to use them. Now I’ll always have honey orange slices on the shelf. Good to see you, I’ll be back in your neck of woods soon!
Hi Meylin! It's good to see you again. And yes, you absolutely can! Sorry for the delay---I'm suddenly getting way more comments than I'm used to. I'd recommend using myer lemons (a bit sweeter) if you're looking to use them in a similar fashion to the recipes I shared.
Uncertain. You say to drain the orange slices and set aside, but what do you do with the liquid drained off?? Discard or add the honey sugar to it?? Thinking the former.
Thank you for recipe it is very glorious ideas to use honey orange preserves in our recipes, 👍👍👌👌 but I want to ask did u discard the water that you boil orange slices 1st or you use it for the rest of the recipe.
She doesn't list how much water to boil with and it looks like she reuses that water when adding the honey. There is step missing from dissolving sugar and honey together and then adding the orange slices. There isn't a ginger ingredient to the recipe either, so it's probably all for how you like it.
Got all set to make this recipe and can't decide if I should discard the water used for boiling orange slices or use it in the syrup. Seems logical to use it since it contains the juice from the oranges. Does anybody know???
Hi Sharon! Yes, you can totally use lemons too! Infused with thyme or sage canned honey lemons are delicious and often used as a cold and flu syrup base. Good to see you!
@@BecomingaFarmGirl one more question: I would like to sell these at my market. Do I need to simmer down the lemons too or can I can them up with lemon slices or wedges for tea. …. Or…. Do you think it would be better with them softened down? I don’t drink tea so I want to be sure they will be desirable to customers.
Good question, Denysha--it tenderizes the rinds. Trust me on this becuase I know it sounds crazy (or at least that's what I thought) but you'll actually want to eat the rinds because they won't be acidic/tart tasting and can be easily sliced with a fork). Hope you get a chance to try this recipe!
Hi Sharon! It’s 1 and 1/4 cup! I will update that as soon as I’m home! I’m so glad I cite my sources. I included the original recipe in the “is this approved” section but thanks for being my second set of eyes!

I absolutely love your format! You make canning look doable by telling us how to use canned items.
Wonderful blessing on a sunny Sunday morning. Thank you Jesus. You have a special presence that comes right through the screen. You know the benefit of you efforts last through eternity for all. And I do see and know what a blessing it is. I can hardly wait to see and understand more Jesus.

Thank you and your family for helping me and my family do just that. Keep your blessed day goin.
I love that you show creative ways to use your home canned recipes. I just canned a whole bushel of apples… i need ideas! 😂

I love that you show gorgeous ways to use the foods you can.
Not too much of an orange fan, but adding a touch of honey and having it in jam form sounds good.
This recipe is definitely worth a try. I consider it to be a deconstructed orange marmalade. Honey makes everything better! Thanks for watching!!
Just 7 minutes into this video and I decided to subscribe. Love what you do.🥰🇯🇲

Where did you get the reusable freezer bag?
Beautiful video as always! When are oranges 🍊 in season?? Never thought of preserving them before.

Question.. how do you know when oranges are tender and done cooking initially?
Does the honey orange and honey lemon need pressure sealed like in canning?
Okay, how do I get this recipe from youtube video? Oranges in frig waiting. Your a pretty awesome young lady. Blessings. Tx.
Hi Brenda! Awww, you're so sweet. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do!
Does your orange recipe work with lemons and limes also.
this looks so delicious! Can I substitute with lemons?
Hi Meylin! It's good to see you again. And yes, you absolutely can! Sorry for the delay---I'm suddenly getting way more comments than I'm used to. I'd recommend using myer lemons (a bit sweeter) if you're looking to use them in a similar fashion to the recipes I shared.
Nice
Thanks so much! Hope you enjoy!
I’m going to be very busy!
Hi Debra! Oh yes! This is a fun and delicious recipe perfect for winter canning when oranges are in season!
what about lemons
How do you use it in a dessert?
Uncertain. You say to drain the orange slices and set aside, but what do you do with the liquid drained off?? Discard or add the honey sugar to it?? Thinking the former.
I'm having a hard time finding myself using honey because of open gut issues in my family. Do you think some brown sugar might work?
So you just put enough water to cover the oranges in the pot?
Thank you for recipe it is very glorious ideas to use honey orange preserves in our recipes, 👍👍👌👌 but I want to ask did u discard the water that you boil orange slices 1st or you use it for the rest of the recipe.
I am wondering the same thing. We saw you drain the water into a bowl but then it looked like they were back in the water. It looks delicious.
She doesn't list how much water to boil with and it looks like she reuses that water when adding the honey. Watched the video, but where are the specific ingredient amounts for this recipe at?
This with lemons too for tea?
…. Or…. So how should you wash your oranges.. I thought it was ok to soak them in water and vinegar?
That's exactly what I do, use a diluted vinegar water solution (you can also throw in a pinch of baking soda).
Say whaaat - Fermented Celery stuffing !?? 😵
The recipe in your blog calls for sugar but I don’t see how much!!
Hi Sharon! It’s 1 and 1/4 cup! I will update that as soon as I’m home! I’m so glad I cite my sources. I included the original recipe in the “is this approved” section but thanks for being my second set of eyes!
