When our appliance repair man was making the 3rd or 4th visit in less than a few months, I asked him… what is the model that you NEVER service. When he said Speed Queen, I then asked if it was just because he wasn’t an authorized Speed Queen service technician? He laughed. Then he shared that he IS a certified Speed Queen service repair technician but he has only had to fix all of 5 Speed Queen machines in his 22yrs in the field. A few of them were at laundromats, and the others was user-error related issues. He also said that it isn’t good for his business to share that with me😂 Then went on to share that it is ONLY because they work flawlessly, are built like a tank and don’t have all these onboard components that can easily break. When I told him I had been looking at the TR7, he said the ONLY thing that will ever need replacing is the motherboard for the Digital Touch pad. I purchased the TR7 3yrs ago & haven’t seen our appliance repair man since. 2yrs later my GE dryer finally died, which delighted me in being able to add the Speed Queen matching dryer.

Good to know. I recently bought a new Maytag. It's ok I guess, but clothes doesn't come out as clean as the older Whirlpool. I found out The Agitators they put in wash machines today don't work woth a sh.. (The swirls)
The older paddle Agitators work best. It knocks the water around forcing your clothes to get clean. I'm giving the Maytag away to a family member. I know what i'm looking for now.

I bought a new Maytag in March of 2023. After a couple weeks, it started making clanking noises during operation. Since technically, it still worked, Whirlpool didn't do anything to fix it. The lid open/close sensor failed after the machine was a couple weeks out of warranty. I replaced it with a Speed Queen TR7.
The only complaint I had about the Speed Queen was getting that yellow sticker off the front.

This is a resounding endorsement for Speed Queen. I've raised 6 children and done loads and loads of wash over the past 50 years. During that time, we've had several washers from different manufacturers and basically wore them out. We recently purchased a Speed Queen, and hands down, it's the best washer out there. It's a real workhorse! I love it!

I didn't buy a SQ because the tub capacity was too small. What I always tell anyone who will listen is that, if they are lucky enough to own one of the old fashioned center post top loaders to KEEP IT. Almost all repairs are simple DIY. Mine was over 50 yo when I had to replace it. If you can find one of the old style units, buy it instead of any of the so-called HE machines.

    • @citybright8925
      @citybright8925 3 місяці тому

Didn't you know you can fill the Speed Queen all the way to the top while the bigger tubs you have to fill only 70%? Ends up being the same capacity or very close to it. And with 28-minute cycles you can do two in the time it takes to do one with the bigger tub.
Speed Queen said customers didn't like the TR line when it first came out in 2018, complaining it didn't wash clothes well enough so they increased the time!
I originally ordered the 2018 Speed Queen but immediately canceled when I saw the warnings to either find the old model or get something else. Bought a Maytag (Home) "Commercial"with a 10-year warranty from Designer Appliances - same model in big box stores had one digit different at the end of the model number and was the same machine but a lesser warranty. The Maytag just flooded the laundry floor with brownish water from leaking transmission fluid, and in 2019 Speed Queen brought back the one with the agitator so I just ordered a Speed Queen TC5003 (5-year warranty).
The Maytag "Commercial" ended up costing $16/month to own it, which isn't bad. It has only 3 stars at Home Depot. My beautiful previous Maytag with crystal knobs was a variable-settings workhorse far better than anything made today, and worked out to $1/month because it lasted so long, with only one repair--replacememt of the motor, which is now made in Mexico. But yes, best sdvice is to buy the oldest one you can find, as my sewing machine repairman put it.

When I was a kid, top loaders ruled, and they agitated so much better than anything does today. It's possible they were harder on clothes, but your clothes came out clean.
We have a front load now, and the clothes just aren't as clean.
We will need a new one within the next year and the next purchase will be a large top loader, even though they have been designed now to be lesser than the beasts they once were.

@@shadow-wulf I recently junked a 7 yo Kenmore FL. Too many problems - rusting out at frame (no visible leaks on floor), shocks blew out, then control panel blew. It was my 1st FL and I'll never buy another. Clothes never seemed clean to me. Ended up getting a large capacity Maytag, minimal bells & whistle, and so far I love it, under $600 at Lowes. My sis bought a SQ for $1400, but she can afford it.

@@shadow-wulfHope your luck continues. I had a 70's Whirlpool that ran over 40 years. I had a technician tell me the newer models in the 90's were rough on clothes due to a change in the motors. I ended up inheriting one of those machines and he was right, it tore holes in my clothes. So last year I saw the Whirlpool with the removable agitator and thought that would be a good one to try. If you want to spend 2 and a half hours to wash a load then that is what you get. It is already having circuit issues and some cycles won't run a rinse. Whirlpool is not a good brand anymore.
I am looking at the Speed Queen now.

LG should not have made it to the top 3. They are made to look high-end, but underneath and hidden from view are plastic parts for critical components, For example, the valves - it is one piece for hot and cold and it is made of plastic. Cold water is not a problem for plastic valves, but hot waster is. There is also the problem with LG washers during spin cycle when they are "off balance" - they will restart the cycle by filling the tank, then spin again and will keep doing this until by luck the clothes balances. This means it could do this ad infinitum. I found this out one day when I returned home at noon after having started the washer at 8 AM. It was still going and by luck I had arrived home just as it kicked off another attempt by filling the tank up and restart the drain/spin cycle. I even saw the time go from 11 minutes back to 17 minutes. What idiots designed this and they actually dared to advertise that their washers are energy efficient and saves water. I hear the same thing applies to Samsung washers.

      I believe the GW586 has a 1/2 HP motor. The TR7 has a 1 HP motor.
I believe the GW586 has a five year warranty and the TR7 has a 7 year warranty.
I think the GW586 has a 3.5 Cu ft capacity and the TR7 has a 3.2 Cu ft capacity.
