I had a ‘98 Mazda B4000 truck (same as a Ranger). It took 3 starters from Autozone to get one that actually worked. It had a lifetime warranty and cost $125, instead of $480 and a 30 day warranty from the dealership. The 3rd time only took me 38 minutes to change it. It was still worth the extra time and effort to save over $350. On the plus side, the rebuilt alternator worked perfectly (cost about $125 also) and only took about 20 minutes to swap out. That was a badass little truck and so easy to work on. It had plenty of low end torque, got about 18.5 mpg, a great ride, and could do 50-60 foot burnouts. I loved that truck.

I didn't know it, but an engine rebuilder said some re-manufacturers bid out, and if low price is all they want, that may include bad parts as a result. Surprising they'd do that.
Scotty, I don't think I have ever disagreed with you. But it is still a good idea to use a strong magnetic drain plug for the engine. The stong magnet captured ultra fine particles too small for the filter to trap. I know my engine is absolutely not worn out with only 23,000 miles on a 2021 Rav4 Prime. The strong magnetic drain plug trapped ultra fine particles from the break-in not captured by the filter. It's better than letting those ultra fine particles circulate in the engine. I use a Gold Plug, and I plan on replacing the weaker OEM magnetic drain plug on the transmission as well during my next service at 25,000 miles. I estimate the Gold Plug is twice as strong a magnet as the OEM magnetic drain plug on the transmission. Why do you think Toyota uses a magnetic drain plug on the transmission if it doesn't work to provide additional protection for the transmission?
Scotty the car companies are using low tension piston rings now for better mileage put that together with ultra thin synthetic oil and Wella you have a engine that uses oil Toyota Camrys had a recall on the engine rings for this problem!

Those discount part stores now have 'limited' lifetime warranties they will replace it once and you are on your own after that. They are becoming strict about enforcing it too so consider that before gambling on their remaned parts.
Why do you always call them "discount auto part stores"? Ain't no discounts about it and what other stores are there for parts? Granted, they are cheaper on most things than the dealers, but are not discounting.
@@joedennehy386 compared to who besides dealers? Rock Auto is cheaper than auto parts stores, so are they super discount? When O'Reily's, Auto Zone, NAPA and Advance Auto is all there is, how is that a discount store? Dealers are overpriced, part stores are regular price.
Hey Scotty, If you have a video on this I apologize but, Where do you get your parts from and are there any decent online market places like Rock Auto or Parts geek are they any good? Thank you
I love that picture of the horse and the girl in the back of those pick up trucks. I had an old Dodge Ram with 2 wheel drive and I put about 400 lbs of sand in the bed and it was great, I would have just used my sister in law, but she wouldn't stay in the bed and the front tires would barely touch the ground
I agree with the extra weight in the bed of that Ranger. Year's ago I had a Toyota 4x4 truck and a guy I knew had a '70's F250 and got stuck on a steep dirt road after some heavy rain. Fortunately I had not only Locker's in both axles, but had an overkill strong clutch. I had him load up a bunch of rocks in my truck, which he thought was counterintuitive, but thank goodness for my strong clutch because just as I started pulling him his truck died and he was dead weight.

Scotty, 1999 Volvo S80 non-turbo, 170k. Have the dreaded ABS system failed warning light, so I replaced the ABS module to the tune of $280. It didn't fix it. Battery has been tested and is good. How can I diagnose the problem to get this thing running again?
Verify that all the wheel speed sensor's wiring is unbroken and the connectors are not bearing any corrosion. Once you open a connector, cover it with dielectric grease before reconnecting it. Use a multimeter to check each sensor's resistance. The values should be very close to one another, or look up the code value. You can use a good quality scanner to diagnose the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS). MAKE SURE the scanner is ABS capable. The braking system defaults to conventional braking in the event of ABS failure, so don't fear driving it.
Get an abs scan tool, figure out what sensor is giving a problem. Make sure they are all clean as well. You can pop the front ones out with the wheels off on the top of the knuckle going into the hub, believe it is a 10 mm bolt holding them in.
Hey Scotty! Thanks for all the great advice and guidance. I want to by a good reliable booster/air compressor pack for my daughters to use if needed while they are going to college. What are your thoughts or recommendations for choosing one that is reliable?

Napa again for replacement , and I'm not going back to Oreillys again .
What I've noticed from O'Reilly is that it cost 49 dollars for brake compared to other Auto parts stores it's so wildly expensive.

They sell discount parts
@@joedennehy386 compared to who besides dealers? Rock Auto is cheaper than auto parts stores, so are they super discount? When O'Reily's, Auto Zone, NAPA and Advance Auto is all there is, how is that a discount store? Dealers are overpriced, part stores are regular price.
If you buy online you can get the parts half to a third price from people like rock auto most parts in manufacturers boxes or tags
@@tomrobards7753 and better quality available from Rock Auto than the neighborhood big part stores too.
Got a 94 Camry with a Oil Pump gasket leak. It’s a heck of a job to fix any alternative solution?
Hey Scotty, If you have a video on this I apologize but, Where do you get your parts from and are there any decent online market places like Rock Auto or Parts geek are they any good? Thank you
I bought 6 brand new aftermarket ignition coils from advanced auto parts a month and a half later I had to replace to of them that failed.
for the guy with the Frontier, a set of tire chains would be a good thing to keep around
Good Lord how I wish you lived in central Tx. I need your services badly.☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️
Scotty! You ain't right! @ 4:38 LMBO!!!!! 😆😂🤣😋😄
I’m glad Toyota has made a ton of cars that way more people can get them
I wouldn't go to o riellys either
I worked in a car parts store after high school many years ago--We sold rebuilt carburetors and every one we sold came back. We called them " Boomerangs" ... LOL
What's the alternative, to buying an engine, from a discount auto parts shop?
Your better off looking for a good junkyard engine than a rebuild. Can't beat factory quality. Just need to search out reliable yard source.
I have a g35x 2006 awd
And I still slide in the rain
Could be down to used tires
Red Devil makes a good rear main seal fix, I followed the directions and it stopped leaking

@6:39 those rebuild Ford power window motors& wiper motors are notorious for failures, right out of the box 📦
Yes I've got a 2012 Ford F-150 and I added the factory brakes on it I've got all the signals coming through the back like they ought to be but they're telling me that it's not supposed to show up on my dashboard when I crank the engine and mine is do you have any idea what I could do to stop that or could it be a bad break box appreciate you input

@@Scotty-kilmer... Yes Scott this is Robert drennan the one that wrote you about the 2012 Ford truck I added a factor break box on it everything comes to the back end like it's supposed to got juice everywhere but they're telling me it's not supposed to come up until it's activated and every time I turn my truck on and start it it shows up on the dash if there's anything you can help me with let me know appreciate it
Nice video about auto supply places but what’s your opinion with Advanced Auto & NAPA?
I think your videos are a riot but your garage looks like a mess how do you find anything?
I already saw a comment saying that Advance Auto parts quality has gone down. Don't buy from there.
I hate o'reilly's I bought an alternator from them back in August and by September the pulley that it came with was squeaking madly at 1st start. I just live with it I even got a sticker on the back of the Van that says this little Van of mine I'm going to let it whine lol
You mean the front seal if the transmission leaking at the flywheel
Hi Scotty, I'm new to your channel and found it helpful. Nice to see honesty from a mechanic. I have an 06 Xterra 6 speed 4 wheel drive. 122750 miles. Runs great but check engine light came on and believe it is 02 sensors. smells of sulfur but mechanic wants to get inside motor. Runs fine and not paying for that mess. Any thoughts? Thanks Samantha.
Probably oxygen sensor like you said, you have relatively low mileage for it being a '06.
It's probably the cat. Get some.cataclean and try that
Scotty Toyota is #2, gm is #1 by 117,000 not including the buy backs I'm sure...
Scotty, I'm thinking of replacing the engine in my 2004 Ford F150 which has the dreaded 5.4 3v Triton motor in it. Can you recommend a manufacturer that you trust? Thanks!
@fordtechmakuloco
Rebuild? Only Jasper.
😂😂😂💯📣🥶

Did I see a flash photo of a Pringles tube being used with the air intake? LoL... Wait, what if you added a 4" wide fart can on the exhaust? Would it work? Hehe
You had the wrong picture up when you said “Do Nothing”. Obviously, you haven’t checked since a few years ago.
Scotty, I find it very ironic that before any of your videos are viewed they start with a commercial for a Nissan EV. This is hilarious knowing how you feel about Nissan and EVS. Watching love all of your videos. Bill H
Scotty Kilmer: Maybe You should put the Date your recording your episode, On the corner of your Page. So if like You talk about something and they Change Something in the Future, The person new it was Back in (2022), That was the way it worked, and Now they have to do it this way. Put The Date ! ! !
Try auto zone...wrong parts, wrong boxes
I would rather buy and Engine or Transmission from Jasper Engines and Transmissions. Because they are well better made then auto part stores would do for a cheaper made.
Lol reminds of the time I called GE about their smoking compact fluorescent light bulbs. They offered to sent me replacements, I said why would I want more of the dangerous bulbs, y’all need to do a recall. They never did as far as I know
Brilliant stuff, as always
I work at O’Reilly.
You have my simpathy
But there GARBAGE comes with a LIFETIME warranty ! 🤣
oreillys home base, springfield mo. known as the greed city of the ozarks
As an O’Reilly employee, this is certainly true.
Honda's just take a while for the fast idle to drop. 07 Accord runs perfect since new, but take 3-4 minutes for the idle to drop
I have s problem. O have nothing to do. My vollvo v,50 just keeps going.
What do you think of Jasper engines ?
Which luxury cars does Scott recommend? I might look into Lexus RX 350, but what other Non CVT luxury cars are worth it?
The RX350 is a great choice. The Lexus experience is second to none too.
@@smokey2459 gothcha thanks! will look into it more
Thank you scotty! I always go to Napa auto parts, they seem like better quality parts there💯
Napa know how Napa know how.
I highly recommend used low mile JDM engines from Japan, have had great luck and 800 bux or so are great deals.
Scotty, 1999 Volvo S80 non-turbo, 170k. Have the dreaded ABS system failed warning light, so I replaced the ABS module to the tune of $280. It didn't fix it. Battery has been tested and is good. How can I diagnose the problem to get this thing running again?
Did you check all of the power and grounds?
could be the abs sensor wheel speed sensor
@@lizafrench8455absolutely this is where I would start as well
Verify that all the wheel speed sensor's wiring is unbroken and the connectors are not bearing any corrosion.
Okay Scotty if you suggest not buying engines from any discount store then where do you suggest that you buy an engine???

Hi Scotty another great video
BEST ONLINE CAR MECHANIC. PERIOD.
Wow…never knew you could even buy a rebuilt engine or transmission from an auto parts store.
Hey scotty from England 🇬🇧 😉
The hot girl in the truck bed threw me off😂😂
Worst place to go to is Pepboys
Please sir, say something about Skoda Yeti...
Hey Scotty! Thanks for all the great advice and guidance. I want to by a good reliable booster/air compressor pack for my daughters to use if needed while they are going to college. What are your thoughts or recommendations for choosing one that is reliable?
Only get rebuild engines from either a reputable local rebuilder who knows what they are doing, or get a Jasper or a remanufactured engines from OEM'S
