Thelma and Bubba’s characters have come a long way since the carol brunette skits. I can look back on bubbas parent teacher conference on carols show right now 😂

The name of this episode was S3, E11 “Where’s There’s Smoke”, it wasn’t called, “Inga”. “Bonita Rokeke” was played by voice actress Yeardly Smith, who has been portraying the voice of Lisa Simpson since 1989. When she started acting she was in an “ABC After-school Special” in 1984. I first remember seeing her in 1985 in “The Legend of Billie Jean” as Putter.
Unfortunately Vicki purposely changed the character when they went into syndication, softened her tremendously at the suggestion of Harvey Korman. He warned her that Mama would have to be less sour and dour and more warm and cozy if the show was to thrive. I disagree with that 100%. Thelma Harper was funniest when she was prickly and stone faced and critical, like in the sketches in the 1970s. I like the sitcom Mama's Family ... but the Family skits were simply brilliant dysfunctional comedy pieces. Kudos to writers Dick Clair and Jenna McMahon who helped create the world of Eunice and the other wacky folks of Raytown.
@@eduardo_corrochio I agree with Vickie and Korman, "sour Mama" works ok for a 15 min sketch when she is the deuteragonist and Eunice is the main star...But it wouldn't work for a 30 min sitcom in which Mama is the main character. As Harvey Korman, I believe put it, "Mama would have to do more than just sit around frowning constantly" "
@@jonnaking3054 Sounds valid, but I can't agree, and that's okay. They took the character I loved and made her something else. At least I have the sketches ... and some early "Mama's Family" episodes where the sour Mama is hilarious (like the show when Mama gets a job at the travel agency, etc).

When I watched this as a kid I never realized that Bubba and Mama Thelma were probably the same age in real life. I loved this show. It was so relatable. I remember this episode. No by mama’s family, Vicki was a bit well into her adulthood more than bubba’s actor was but Vicki started playing mama on carol brunette at just 24. That’s crazy to think about considering I’m 25 lol
I think the couple sitting on right appeared in Golden Girls... The man as Rose's father and the Lady as the woman running away from home n meeting Rose at the bus station!
They were both on the Golden Girls as well as the spin-off show The Golden Palace. However not in those roles. The actor , Earl Boen played a reverend in 2 episodes of Golden Girls and one episode of Golden Palace. The actress, Anne Haney, appeared as Dorothy's roommate when she went into the hospital on The Golden Girls, and on 'The Golden Palat' as an old lady that ran away from a nursing home and Rose wanted to let her stay at the hotel.
No he does favor but this actor did play the preacher in final episode of Golden Girls and another Golden Girls episode when Dorothy's brother Phil passed away
The lovely Anne Haney. She was great in the Golden Girls and Mrs. Doubtfire!

Alberta was such a witch. I'm so glad Thelma was not afraid to put her in her place. I love the way the Reverend would always side with Thelma. LOL!!
