Mama's Family aired for 2 seasons on NBC. It started in January 1983 until September 1984. It was cancelled by NBC. 2 years later, it returned in syndication for 4 years. The series ran for 6 non-consecutive seasons. Vicki ended Mama's Family in 1990 at the conclusion of the 6th season.
So true I was about to write that the amount of time wasn’t correct. Just finished watching the show ending with season 6 last night. I remember watching her as a child on the Carol Burnett show and was so happy when Mamas Family aired. Good times.
I remember that, too. In the final episode, Naomi had a baby. The final line was spoken by Mama to the newcomer, something like "You're a Harper, you'll have to get used to yelling."

I dont know why I became attracted to mamas family in my early 20s around 1992. I was living on my own and I guess I was in touch with my domesticated side more than the typical Male. I got my girlfriend at the time, now wife of almost 30 years addicted to mamas family so much that when we couldn't find her on TV anymore we ordered the entire DVD set. Now she is on Pluto, but sadly only a few later seasons. We even saw her stand up act in Laughlin. Mamas family is one of those shows that just portrays life as it may be and doesn't try to be something it cant be or isn't like so many shows today. I would love to see a few more seasons with the same cast as they left off.
The show was a success because they toned down the Thelma Harper character from the Carol Burnett episodes ... made her more human and likable. Smart move.
I think it could have gone on for another couple of years. I thought some of the later episodes were really funny. I do think and was completely anticipating a movie where Mama could be even meaner and say more outrageous things, even swear which would have been hilarious since she seems like she wants to on the TV show sometimes.
No you are wrong. Vicki wanted to continue with the series, but the producers said with the NBC episodes there are enough episodes to go through second run syndication and deicided the show did not need any more new episodes. So, Mama's Family was cancelled the second time in the Spring of 1990.
Absolutely! We feel the same way. Thank you for sharing your sentiments and for watching our content. What other types of video would you like to see on Facts Verse?
I don't which I like more, MAMA'S FAMILY or All in the Family. Both sit coms had unique characters, especially the way both TV series were presented. Mama's Family unlike All in the Family didn't discuss too much real issues, such the War in Vietnam or the Iran Hostage nigociation under Presiden Carter or Regan I guess Mama's Family had the Brady Bunch feel just for mature audiances.
I didn't like "Mama's Family" on the Carol Burnett show (which otherwise I liked a lot) because I found the characters unpleasantly shrill, sharp and bitter. I didn't find it funny so much as disturbing. When they spun it off into the sitcom they really mellowed out the characters, and instead of everyone ready to backstab everyone else, they actually had pleasant relationships. It wasn't my favorite show, but it wasn't unpleasant to watch. However, as it went along, the characters became more and more stereotyped, and some of the character became so stupid that I lost interest in watching them. The same thing happened to shows like Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley.
I think it has clearly run its’ course by then… she wasn’t even the same character that she was in the non-syndicated version, not to mention on the CBS
This is so false! Mama didn't leave the show. It ran on NBC from 82-84 and went into syndication from 86-90 and she said they had enough episodes to stop doing the show...you need to redo this because this isn't correct information.
@@tigger06 listen to the video at 4:28..."Her departure was a significant blow to the series...". Like you say, OFCOURSE it was a significant blow to the series, she WAS the series. What FactsVerse should have said was, "Vicki's planned departure ofcourse meant the series would soon be ending; since as the title character; the show could not go on without her. So they wrapped the production swiftly after her final episode; which was also Mama's Family series finale".
If you are gonna do videos, research your subject. Mamas Family was cancelled by NBC in 1984. It came back in 1986 and ran until 1990. That’s six seasons. And Vicki didn’t leave the show.
Vicki’s greatest gift might have been to walk away bc it made Betty White and Rue available for new projects…aka the even more iconic series Golden Girls
Also notable that after, "Mama's Family", (but not mentioned in this video) is that for two years, she hosted the network edition of the game show, "Win, Lose, or Draw". She was then the most successful woman host of a game show.
As humorous and entertaining as the series was, the praise was a bit too high. As far as failing quality of the scripts, they actually didn't have too far to fall.

No you are wrong. Vicki wanted to continue with the series, but the producers said with the NBC episodes there are enough episodes to go through second run syndication and deicided the show did not need any more new episodes. So, Mama's Family was cancelled the second time in the Spring of 1990.
I watch mamas family on catchy comedy its a funny show i like vicki lawrence good video vickie napa california

Bud and Sonja didn't click with the audience.

Where did u get your information on Mama's Family?... bc its inaccurate 🙄

You are right on the Money, Mama was a mean spirited old lady.
Found ALL OF IT hilarious. Was supposed to be that way. That's what made it funny
@@tampico63LOVED IT !!!
I think it has clearly run its’ course by then… she wasn’t even the same character that she was in the non-syndicated version, not to mention on the CBS
I sure do miss you😊

Momma's family would had stayed on from 1983 to 1989 maybe 1990 this show made Vicki and a good spin off of Carol Burnett show RIP Tim And Harvey
This is so false! Mama didn't leave the show. It ran on NBC from 82-84 and went into syndication from 86-90 and she said they had enough episodes to stop doing the show...you need to redo this because this isn't correct information.
I don't think there were any Mama's Family episodes after Vicki Lawrence left. I just looked up all the episodes; and she's even in the last one.
Of course. There would be no show without her
@@tigger06 yeah but the video said "the show went downhill after Vicki Lawrence left and was soon cancelled..." Which was misleading.
Wow, I did not have a clue that she had her own show, I watched very little TV.
Glad to know that you discovered something new about Vicki. What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?

So funny and I liked it's southern appeal.
It had like 6 seasons. How long should it had gone?
Glad to know that you're a fan! Which episode is the most memorable for you?
I didn't know Vicki Lawrence had her own talk show..
So wonderful Lady Vicki Lawrence is and so strong woman and amazing.
Beautiful words, thank you for your message for Vicki. We love her 💕
Mama's Family is still on tv today
Now do Allan Kayser (Bubba)!
No telling how long the show would have gone on btw to pay the bills she has gone back to playing MAMA on stage

I remember Vicki Lawrence's show talk had Dinah shore Donald o Connor. Like funny
If you are gonna do videos, research your subject. Mamas Family was cancelled by NBC in 1984. It came back in 1986 and ran until 1990. That’s six seasons. And Vicki didn’t leave the show.
It wasn't canceled in 1986, and she didn't leave the show. She chose to stay and have one final episode in 1990. Time-line is inaccurate.
I love this show i iwn the entire series on dvd the early ones i loved Eunice but i do prefer the episodes when it came back in 86
*Vicki did NOT leave the show. Please check your FACTS before creating vids such as this...*
Yeah a comment at 4:28 does leave that impression

@@FactsVerse You are more than welcome.
All the ones where Mama schemes with Iola or Allen Kayser barefoot and shirtless...lol
I believe it was canceled because two of the shows actresses, Rue McClanahan and Betty White went on to star in a new series called The Golden Girls.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Which episode of the show appealed to you the most?
Well I was told that Vicki Lawrence didn't leave mama's Family, the show has gotten canceled, then it went syndicated!!!
Vicki’s greatest gift might have been to walk away bc it made Betty White and Rue available for new projects…aka the even more iconic series Golden Girls

Love Mama and Vicky, but Ken (RIP), Dorothy, and Beverly stole the show - Bubba too.
