I loved Naomi's attitude in the early going. It's obvious the writing changed with the exit of the 2 kids and the entrance of Iola . Vint and Naomi became less threatening to Mama
Naomi would still show some edge occasionally in the later seasons although yeah she was a little more of a Flanderized "Bimbo" who was easier to shut up
All Mama had to do is cut off access to property and resources, and she had automatic veto power. Personally, if they spoke to me as disrespectfully and aggressively as they do to her, that's exactly what I'd do.
@@rainbowunicorn709 There were many times when she would verbally abuse them with no justification and the two of them wouldn't react . There was the episode when Naomi and Vint wanted to host a get together with a few friends and Mama did everything she could to sabotage it but in the end ,Naomi had the last laugh The show was still funny but the attitude was gone from Naomi. She transitioned into a bimbo and Vint became a juvenile birdbrain
@@lindaeasley5606 I feel they became more of a joint foil to Mama whereas in the first two seasons it was Thelma vs Naomi in a battle over Vint and that fueled the bitterness between them. But when Bubba gets brought into the picture her attention shifts to him as she becomes his surrogate mother and so Vint/Naomi became more sources of comic relief. That being said while Lymans Naomi gets softer there's still episodes where she has some bite towards Thelma - moreso Iola actually. But I like how the arc between the mother and daughter-in-law doesn't get completely aborted at the end but culminates with Thelma delivering Naomis baby which I think was both bittersweet and beautiful at the same time
I didn't know he had passed. God rest him! We didn't really laugh much in my family except when we watched this show. It was about the only thing that brought us together. We related to it but it was so funny.
I miss this show my family was all alive and sitting in the living room. The only tv in the house. Now kids are glued to their selfies. I miss you mama😿
Ya me to I used to watch with my mom and dad it was nice times I think I'm going to order it DVD still cracks me up my husband isn't going to know who the hell this is. Lol I don't watch tv anymore nothing on I got tv in every room and don't watch anything
Nancy Simmons yes I’m older than my husband I have to watch The Twighlight Zone and black and white when he isn’t home or asleep. I’m Ruth Im 56 he’s almo 40😸 i miss my family so much this lock down sucks take care 🙏👋
Naomi: "I intend to teach Vinton how to stand on his own two feet!" Mama: "Well, if you had taught him how to keep his feet on the floor last night (instead of on his back with you *implied*), we wouldn't be in this mess right now!!" I swear. Mama be reading them ho's DOWN.
laurie kerr The LOGO channel runs Mama's Family quite a bit. Usually 4 hours (8 episodes) back-to-back-to-back etc.... During the week *and* on weekends. (Also "Three's Company", "The Golden Girls" and "Laverne & Shirley". :-)
Jonathan Wilson The cable TV channel LOGO runs *marathons* of "Mama's Family. Today (Monday, May 22nd, 2020), an 8-hour-marathon (16 episodes) of Mama's Family starts at 1:58 *P.M.* until 8:00 *P.M.* At 8:00 *P.M.* (after Mama's Family is over), there's a "Three's Company" marathon on the same channel...begins at 8:00 *P.M.* and is on until 12:30 *P.M.* (33 episodes in a row !!). Just thought I'd let you know about Mama's Family in case you didn't know. Have a great day !! 😀
Mama needed to contend with more of the early Naomi. Too bad when they revamped the show, they turned Naomi into a bimbo. Looks like she really was a good foil for Mama's self-righteousness.
michele adams Off the top of my head, I can think of 3 scenes that were the most heartwarming, regarding mama and Naomi..... * When Naomi's ex-husband came to town and tried to get her back....in the end scene where she tells Leonard Oats that she's *not* going to go back to Florida with him, he tells her she's crazy for wanting to "hang out with these yo-yo's" & mama jumps up, grabs his jacket and tells him that despite Naomi's past, she is *now* a *Harper* and that she will not tolerate anyone who insults a Harper. :-) -------- *The episode where the tornado hits and they're all stuck in the basement. In the end scene, Mama tells Naomi that she knows Naomi will do a nice job setting the table...which mama initially had told Naomi "No" because mama 'knew' it would look stupid or whatever, lol. :-) ---------------- * The scene where Naomi finds out she is pregnant, & mama yells at Vint "She is *with child* you goon....pull out her chair." :-) ------------- * and also the episode where mama helped Naomi deliver the baby. :-) Vint's performance in that episode was friggin hilarious !! The scene where we hear a car crash, then tires screeching, and then another crash....Vint in a total state of panic, tells mama he smashed his pick-up truck. She said "Fine...we'll just take *MY* car then" and Vint said "That's what I smashed into !!" This scene kills me every time, LOL. :-)
I wish it came on more Apps or stations have to wait to watch it on Logan, I'm excited they will be playing episodes all day today and sunday :) Loved Mama since a kid!
I Hated what the show did to Vinton's character. It was such a disappointment to see how smart, strong and intelligent he was on The Carol Burnett Show, and then on Mama's Family...he was a complete and utter moron.
Vinton: QUIET! Now I am going in the kitchen to get myself a beer, and if I hear one more peep out of either one of ya, I'm gonna come out here and tie both your tongues in a knot! Mama: Fran! Call the paramedics! Fran: What is it? Tell me, is it your heart! Mama: No, I'm gonna kill Vint! LMAO.
You uploaded this 10 YEARS AGO!! I cant recall ever seeing a video say it was uploaded that long ago. I'm sure there are but I never noticed. Sometimes I focus on the stupidest stuff. Lol
Omg. I have a Naomi theory. Like in the Office where they figured out that Tobey might be the Scranton Strangler. I believe Naomi is using Vint. Here's why. They got married very fast. She was losing (selling it ..according to her) her house. She was only getting $10,000 for it ...so... she wasnt doing too well. She told Vint about the guy at the trailer park who wanted "a couple" to run it ... so she talked Vint into it. At the end...no trailer park and the money from her house was gone too. (I think she still has that money somewhere) ok. Now skip ahead to where Naomi lost her memory...she became completely different. She didn't like Vint. She cleaned. She cooked. She was prudish. I believe THAT IS THE REAL NAOMI Once she lost her memory..she forgot that she had to pretend to be 'the perfect woman' for Vint. She is using him. She was going to lose her house and be S.O.L. so she grabbed him up. It's just a theory.
princess bell I remember that episode from years ago. I thought the same thing as you. I also remember a scene where Vint told Naomi that he's always had a crush on her, and that Naomi never gave Vint the time of day. Well, Naomi finally took interest in Vint when she started losing everything. Therefore, I'm with you on this one.
This show was even more hilarious on the Carol Burnett show because it was like a new concept...a gruff old lady drinking beer, and most of her kids were losers. And the way Thelma told off people on the weekly show was so funny.I never missed an ep of 'Mama's Family' when new.I watch it on the MeTV channel at 5pm weekdays.Bubba was funny, his 2 cousins on the earlier seasons were dull, but the eps themselves were funny.Vint just got dumber and wimpy as time passed.I was just a kid, but I watched his shows Mayberry RFD, and the variety show he hosted and was star of called WOW!, both when new.I think WOW! was on during 1971, if not '72.He was a very good tap dancer.
Vent was so much stronger in the earlier episodes. They really made him soft and somewhat stupid as the show went on. I hated that. It was hard to watch him sometimes.
I liked the whole show. Eunice and Ed Higgins too. lol. I liked mama I. Vintage stole mama silver .As the show went o. Vinton was more stupid. He had some ball in the beginning though.
sha11235 I agree with you (to a point, lol....I still loved the show even after Vint turned into a doofus, lol), but yea....it's weird when characters of a show become stupid. Another example is "Chrissy" on "Three's Company". The 1st and half of the 2nd season, Chrissy started taking on the "dumb blonde" image. Also, I just read recently that on the show "Friends", Matt LeBlanc ("Joey Tribbiani") *suggested* to the writers/producers that his character "Joey" be on the "dumb" side, and they went with it. :-)
I loved Naomi's attitude in the early going.
It's obvious the writing changed with the exit of the 2 kids and the entrance of Iola . Vint and Naomi became less threatening to Mama
Different writers and not having all the same characters, especially Eunice and Ed.
Naomi would still show some edge occasionally in the later seasons although yeah she was a little more of a Flanderized "Bimbo" who was easier to shut up

This is my favorite Naomi moment!

"No, I'm gonna kill Vint!"

One of the few episodes where Naomi wasn't wearing yellow

I misread this as "Mama Agrees with Vint & Naomi." Hah! That'll be the day!
R.I.P Ken Berry
Naomi told mama off and stood up to mama she posed as a threat tp mama. She did love vint and never cheated on him. Class acr.
