Welcome to another Tips and Tricks How to video from Building on a budget models. In this guide, I'll be showing you how to get a realistic looking rusty finish on a scale model car using a simple technique.
This guide utilises Acrylic spray cans from Humbrol but acrylic paint through an airbrush or a different Acrylic spray can may also achieve similar results.
I used the following-
Humbrol 93 Desert Yellow acrylic spray can
Humbrol 69 gloss yellow acrylic spray can
Revell 83 Rust aqua paint
Salt
Hairspray
Old toothbrush (not to be used again)
Water
plastic spoons
primer (grey Wilko)
brushes
sponge

Thanks Thomas. You never know when these little tips and tricks will come in handy. Keep them coming as we never stop learning.
You're welcome Allan. I know that this video could help someone many years down the line.
This car came out great! The technique worked perfectly. Thanks for the demonstration. Have an upcoming project I will try this on. 🚚😊
I hope it's helpful! I'd really like to try this method again someday but I need to find the right subject - maybe something industrial.
Nice tutorial. Saved it to my rust techniques playlist. Thanks for sharing
Cheers Mike. I watched a lot of videos in preparation for this build but there weren't any which focused on spray cans really.
Thanks for such a great tutorial. I've got to try it some time.
You're welcome. There were loads of rusty trucks where I was on holiday and it made me want to try this again too
Yessss, great
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.
Great vid!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers Tim.
Awesome tutorial Thomas!
Thank you Shawn. Hopefully someone will find it when they need these tips as it's not getting many views right now! 😅
@@BOABModels I'm sure they'll find it soon!
Excellent technique and very effective results for little cash! Tim at THROTTLE POWER recommended your channel and I just subbed!! 👌👍✌🇨🇦
Thank you very much - glad to have you. Tim was very kind. 👍
Great viddd! Amazing content😁
Thank you. 👍
Just to clarify, I didn't want to go overboard with the weathering on this one but you could easily coat this in salt and hairspray to give it a really heavy rusty patina look.
Similarly this could be used with a metallic base coat to just make the paint look chipped. It's very versatile.
Hi from South African vloggers 🇿🇦 😀
Hello, South African vloggers,
Super
Thanks very much
Nice one Thomas👍👏
Thank you Paul.
Only the finest Waitrose salt for this model 😅
Oh yes... and it tasted delicious!
Thanks Ive been looking for a video like this on using a car model. Can you comment on advantages and disadvantages to waiting 12 hours like you did?
I'm glad it was helpful.
I just left the paint a few hours as I didn't want the toothbrush to scratch the finish where it was supposed to be left unrusted. That's what you meant, right?
yes thanks!!
