He was recommended by the studio off of another film. Burton came back to him a second time and had a more thought out pitch of ‘he’s lived in every era and none of them at all’ which Keaton found interesting. After his performance here (which Keaton declares his favorite still after all this time!) Burton had him in the top slot for Batman. Crazy to think we never would’ve had one of the most definitive portrayals of Batman if it wasn’t for the afterlife’s best bio-exorcist!
