Neither Beetlejuice nor the detective actually offed themselves though. They just put themselves into a situation that was needlessly dangerous.

Well maybe true. But you’d only have that one bad kid and that didn’t have a lot with how it ended. So it would have been emptier. And it gave Beetlejuice more motivation for marrying Lydia. So it does change it. Maybe just not very strongly.

It’s shame this clip can be found online, getting some backstory should be saved for a ticket purchase. I was surprised to get so much context. The whole film is good, this was just one of the many cherries on top!

While I love Monica Bellucci in this role, and all her scenes, the Delores subplot really just sort of ended up being pointless. Like, all her scenes could have been cut, and would have had no effect on the movie. I know they explain that Beetlejuice re-marrying would essentially cut his bond with her completely, but it never feels fleshed out, you know?
