This video is a perfect introduction to using MaterialX in Houdini and comes with a bonus of how it is structured, read and modified... in less than 20 minutes? Simply perfect. I've been really stuck on this subject not knowing what to study first and this video brought me the light. Thank you!
Super useful. A lot of important details like this should be front and centre, but is left out in many guides and documents. 1 year after starting with mtlx I finally figured out how to properly deal with exporting and importing.
Excellent tutorial as always, and most appreciated. If you'd like a suggestion on a future MaterialX topic I'm trying to find info on building 3D procedural patterns - for example a concentric rings shader - running through 3D space : )
You can create a MaterialX compound nodegraph in Houdini 20 by selecting the materialX nodes that you want grouped together and RMB "actions>collapse to subnet"
this is really helpful to understand the mtlx files, as you mentioned the code is different when we use the houdini to export and the downloaded files are having the different format of code, which is causing issue when I take it to unreal, in maya it just works fine, but I need it in unreal, is there any way to export in same format of the downloaded mtlx code or any mtlx editor to rewrite the code as same, Please let me know if there is any way Thanks in advance
Really good information. Q:You used the materialinker node. Is it better than the assignmaterial node? Personally, I like the materialinker node better. So, it was a great coming across it in the video. Cheers!

Is MaterialX workflow more similar to Octane or Redshift?
