- This 24k Gold Plated DeLorean is the culmination of excess in the ’80s. This is a story about a man who had it all … money, drugs, cars and a desire to build a car company to rival the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini … or at least that was the plan. We are going gold hood to gold rear bumper on this DeLorean DMC.

My Grandad worked for GM for most of his career as a draftsman and was at Delorean at the time they built this. He's 82 now and gave me a DMC folder earlier this year with loads of photos and details on this very car, including one of the gold rivets and the photo at 3:12, where I'm almost certain he's the guy at the front of the car!

A friend of mine had a dmc-12 in his family when I was a kid. The one thing I remember about it most was the seats were right on the floor, and the dash is super long so your legs go way up under the dash.

It's just how the gauges were. They reset to 0 when powered on. Goofy stuff like that is common in UK cars. Did you know Lotus used vacuum-operated pop-up headlights on some models? Turn off the car and let it sit for a while and the headlights will slowly raise to open position. Start the car and they'll go back down (ideally).

The only thing about the DeLorean cars that I remember is “Back to the Future” and the movie “Eternity”. I had heard about these gold plated models a while ago but finally have seen one thanks to Donut Media. I like how Humprey defended DeLorean by saying maybe that coke scandal could have been a set up. Who knows the truth? I do know that the DMC 12 was definitely an icon of the 80’s and I did always want one, so I could put my flex capacitor into it.
I hope you all find more rare cars to put on here or all of us to enjoy. (:

3:43 it’s a the Petersen Automotive museum in Beverly Hills CA, it’s in the vault if you take the tour. I took the tour and saw it up close and personal. Pretty cool.

The very cool story of the 24k car is actually how it was made, how they secretly transported it and how it was presented. I own a regular dmc-12 , and I can say what drew me to the car was the styling, its unbelievable story and the fact theres never been a car like it. I have SOO many books on JZD, the car and the factory. Incredible story of incredible people during some very trying times in both the USA, Ireland and England. Theres alot of public misconception, lies and hatred in some car communities concerning this car. If anyone is interested in these weird old cars, it's story or just area fan join us on dmctalk.org

The road that went past the end of my great grandfather's farm was actually the route they'd take for shipping DeLoreans. He'd often see brand new ones going past on lorries. He almost bought one, too

Nice seeing something produced locally to me, but what an abrupt end for those poor factory workers. Wasn't a lot else to do locally at the time, and with 'the troubles' in full swing, it was a pretty depressing blow to the job market and economy. Would have been nice seeing the factory still producing cars, and I'm sure it would have been one of the biggest employers over here, even to this day! Great video as always, despite the inability to access and touch most of the car! Also nice seeing a bit of home, even if it was in such dark times.

I used to live in the area, and that car was the highlight of every visit.

The 24K DeLorean with the door ding is now in Hera's Auto Museum in Reno. They had it displayed with the invoice for the repair and the story that you told here about it. That was back in 1994 when I was there last.

There is that one at the Peterson museum, one at a Museum in Reno, Nv and I think the third one is privately owned to this day. I have seen the one in Reno. They were using it as a front show room piece when I was there over a decade ago.
