The Chevrolet Corvette is probably one of the greatest American cars of all time. It is the pride and enjoy of Chevy in the racing world, capable of taking on the likes of Porsche, Ferrari, and Aston Martin in the GT circuit. But at one point Chevrolet wanted to kill this Corvette Grand Sport and this is its story …

Zora arkus duntov sounds like the kind of villain who would interrogate you while stroking a cat and wearing an eyepatch while in a spaceship
Sounds like a Soviet teletubby
I mean you're not wrong 🤣
Lol yeah, sounds like a Bond villain who retired from doing evil stuff to build sportscars.

Of course he's a great guy and the Corvette is amazing

Yea after ford gt and ferrari gave a 10 seconds gap in le man that the corvette cry about it. And penalize ford by adding weight and cutting fuel size while ferrari got a air retricter /choke.

8:50 missed opportunity for "winning races and fitting braces"
I never knew. Thanks for the story. I never knew the cobra had any competition. I drove in SCCA (1500 and 1600 CC Class) races back in the day. Carol Shelby, a friend of my Grandfather, got me my driver's license. Now, I have more respect for this early corvette (which I never knew about nor raced against) when most of them were heavy dogs on the track.
Donut has enough clout now to film on top of the Petersen Automotive Museum, proud of ya’ll
Huh funny, just saw a '63 Corvette convertible in action at my local transportation museum yesterday. Such a sweet ride. Especially the.. POP UP UP AND DOWN HEADLIGHTS

Jeff actually stories like this still occur frequently today, thanks for sharing your ignorance on the car manufacturing industry.

I had heard about these old lightweight Corvette before. I didn't know they had actually been created. Very cool video about a piece of history I thought was only a legend. Thank you, Donut Media for doing a video on these old school race cars. (:

BAK-IK-IK BAK-IK-IK-KA BAK BAK-IK POP
I never thought that I would see Pumphrey yelling steve miller band lyrics at me
They need to do this for the dodge Daytona and Plymouth superbird that people can buy
That would be VERY cool, it's funny how when those cars came out hardly anybody wanted them, I grew up in a neighborhood that's on a hill overlooking my hometown, around 1972 or 73 when I was a kid there was a yellow Superbird or Daytona at a used car lot down the road from my house that I could see from my bedroom window, that car sat there for sale for about 2 years before it finally disappeared, I wonder how long it would have lasted in this day and age.
@@dukecraig2402 The problem was they were $5K when you could get a very fast car for $3K. And you would pay more for insurance than you would for gas, even though they only got 6 mpg around town. I would have bought one, but I wasn't old enough to drive yet.
@@scotth6814
Yea, that was the same problem with all of the exotic American cars of the era when they were new, that all aluminum 427 engine Corvette that they only made 2 or 3 of, the ZL1 or whatever it was called, cost $10,000, that's why they only made 2 or 3.
The Superbirds and Daytona Chargers were never really meant or expected to sell very well to the public, Chrysler was only worried about making the required numbers for them to be NASCAR legal, if they sat around at the factory and dealerships because they wouldn't sell that wasn't something they were worried about.
My point wasn't even about them selling new, it was about them selling as used cars in the 70's, after the first OPEC oil embargo of 72 nobody wanted cars like that because they were gas hogs and expensive to insure, even by the time I was in high school in the early 80's nobody wanted them except for maybe the most exotic one's like a Superbird or Daytona Charger, only the rarest cars like that were really desirable at that point and only really to gear heads, even by the early 80's people just didn't want to have anything to do with late 60's gas hogs, Christ when I was in high school you could buy a 1st generation Camaro for $500 to $1,500 depending on condition and engine option, now those same cars sell for $10,000 in rough shape to $100,000 restored, but for years nobody wanted them, in the first year after the 1st OPEC oil embargo gasoline rose 35 cents per gallon, previous to that it took 10 years for it to rise that much in price per gallon, that's why after 72 nobody really wanted cars like that.
First, I watch these videos and wonder why anyone would dislike it? Second, I now have a new car at the top of my list if I were to somehow get dumb money. You rock Donut!
Most commentators could learn a lot from this host. I have never liked Corvettes, but this guy makes it something interesting. Keep up the good work

6:00 - You don't know Jack. Those fender flairs are as aerodynamic as a barn door. In fact, they are quite similar to a Model A fiberglass fender for hotrods. In fact, that is where Dan Garner got his flares for the very first Grand Sport replica in 1979, right out of the J.C. Whitney catalog.

The Cheetach was the Cobra SLAYER.
JerseyMikeP ... WTF is/was a "Cheetach"? I've heard of the Cheetah. You know, like Chester.
The Cheetah would, most likely, have raced against the Shelby Daytonas, and it's really unlikely the Grand Sport could have unless it was raced after 1963 in a race that a Shelby Daytona was competing in because the Shelby Daytonas didn't compete in races before 1964, Shelby Cobras did.
