The best carding tutorial I have seen on youtube! This is exactly the technique I was shown & taught including the way you hold the carders. Fantastic well done video, very simple & easy to understand!
Absolutely perfect, very easy to follow, no rubbish or over complicating of anything. Short and simple. Had me giggling too :) you're a natural to teaching and it's made my week finding this. Thank you so much, I can't wait to start carding now xx
Finally a carding tutorial to get me started on the right foot with my carders! Been on the wrong foot apparently with my first attempts following other tutorials… so many details in my technique that need fixing, thank you!
This was incredibly helpful. I'm very new to spinning, and by extension carding wool, and this video explained some things that I found quite difficult earlier in a very clear way.
Hello! I've recently gotten into working with wool and have been looking around the internet after good handcarding tutorials. Thank you so much for making this awesome video! You're straight to the point, but you provide excellent examples of what to do with the carders. As well as what to expect with the carded wool. Thank you! =D
Once, at a rare breeds sale I saw a Jacob ram which looked as if the seller had gone over it with hand carders. It looked like a giant puffball, I thought it looked hilarious, but it not only fetched a great price, it won first prize in the show beforehand! Maybe I'll card one of this years lambs in the summer and make a video just for fun :)
Years ago in the US, I did that when showing a Scottish Blackface ram lamb. First washed and dried him, then carded him all over. ( No crimp in their fleece so what did it matter?) Judge was not familiar with Scottie’s. He won!
Love this. No pointless babbling and to the point. I presume if I want to use the wool for stuffing I would just not roll it up? Off to get some carders now!
I've been watching a British comedy where the protagonists are attempting to become self-sufficient. One of the episodes centers around them attempting to make wool into cloth so they could weave it. I wanted to see how carding actually worked, thank you so very much for this informative video.
Thank you very much for this video & your explanations! I’ve watched DOZENS of other videos and yours is, by far, the best & most informative, while still being clear to understand!!
Thank you!! Is it necessary to flip the carder for the last part of the hair youre putting into the main carder or can u skip the flip and just scrap it onto the other one?(so teeth face upwards whole time no flip needed)
thanks so much! very helpful for felting :) family friend has sheep and offered to get me some wool if i could card it! quite excited for my carders to come in
Having just bought 3kgs of my neighbours first Kidd clippings I am excited to get started processing and spinning but want to treat the mohair with the utmost respect, this is a fabulous tutorial thank you
Good morning, I have just found this and want to share a small bit of it with a primary school class; I am doing an art project with them about bogs. We will be looking at natural fibres and also doing a small bit of weaving on cardboard looms. I wanted to show them how the raw fleece which I will bring in, can be first carded and then spun into wool yarn. May I please have permission to share this with them? Many thanks, much appreciated, Lucy
I want to try this with cat fur. I will get small batches at a time. If I sausage roll the carded fur then need to keep it for a while, will the fur mat together?
Oh, that's a pity. I've known a few people who are allergic to animals with very fine hair, my youngest daughter can't go anywhere near my pet rabbits. There are a number of plant fibres you could try such a silk, cotton, flax, bamboo, or my favourite ramie. One day I'll get round to processing some nettles for fibre .....
9 Years on and this is still the best carding tutorial on UA-cam. Thanks so much for an excellent straight forward explaination.
Fantastic tutorial! Very clear and to the point. No awkward babbling that some people tend to do. Thank you very much!
:) hope it was useful.
Thanks for the kind comments everyone.
