I think I’ve said this before, but my favorite thing about you is that you have an idea, and you execute the idea. You woke up one morning and thought “I’d like a 300w amp today” and you went to bed that night having built a 300w amp. I respect your follow-through so much!
This really made me think about crossovers and if they are really needed. I just remembered back in the day I bought a passive subwoofer to go with my home theatre system and it just needed to be hooked up in series to the front right speaker. All these speaker companies got me fooled over the years thinking that crossovers are mandatory. But there was a time when low mid or high speakers could all be hooked up together as long as the amp could handle the impedance. Thanks for the reminder!
My mates Dad used to make us amps in the 80s from old jukebox speakers.hi fi amps& old brown wood 1940s wardrobes cut down to cab size...Some of the best amps ive ever used...
I absolutely love tinkering. Years ago I tinkered around and made a Jerry rigged bass amp with a speaker and a rough same amplifier power supply and power strip. Love this! Kudos! Got me inspired 👌
Love this shit, dude. Redneck ingenuity. People spending a couple hundred, some elbow grease, and LOTS of creativity...giving a superior quality product to multi grand commercial products. Subscribed.
I've been doing these kinds of "thinking outside the box" projects for years, and they're the funnest kind to do, IMO. I think it has something to do with defying the whole "YOU CAN'T DO THAT!" response that the typical person from any given respective field will automatically say when you tell them what you're gonna do, idk? I have to admit that even I was cringing a bit when I saw the speakers you were using. I was wrong! I think that thing sounds great for what you had on hand. would be cool though if you did another video on this using a true 10" or 12" guitar cab speaker. NICE JOB MY FRIEND, I LOVE IT!
I use a Quilter "Interblock" Class D pedal-sized amp to drive two small 1x10" open-back cabs. It has a very "tube-like" front end, so no modeling is required for it to sound very much like my old tube amp (similar to the 5F6 Fender Tweed Bassman circuit) does with same cabs. That's why that "valve" amp been gathering dust for years! My 7.1 audio system is also 100 percent Class D, including two Aiyima A07s for the ambience/surround speakers -- that technology has improved tremendously over the last ten years or so.
That's a nice job. I'm doing it with a lekato headphone amp and a TPA3110 amp board at 15 watts a side. Needs a 12v supply, and I'll stem that off to a buck converter set at 5V to charge the Lekato I think you've got a little overkill as far as speakers are concerned. If you're not using any type of crossover it's not worth it at all. You need a full range speaker, and that will do it. Even better is finding an online calculator to tell you the exact dimensions of what the box should be for a flat response. Having said that it sounds fine, but hardly a 'quiet practice amp' lol
I did something similar to this 4 years ago. 20 watts per side, 3 1/2" automotive speakers mounted inside old boom box speaker housings. It made for a killer practice amp.
Man you and Kathy can do and make anything, ya’ll just blew my mind on this amp tho. Keep these great video’s coming everyone should know about ya’lls channel I love ya’ll!
I have built a few small tube amps, but this video, the process and your build is great. Sounds great and gets the job done. Thank you for sharing, great work!
My first amp was a cheap 90s karaoke machine with a 1/4" mic input that distorted really easily. It actually sounded pretty good. I ended up shredding the speaker because I constantly dimed it.
My first one was plugging straight into a Technics cassette deck on our stereo. I then moved up to using an old Tandberg reel-to-reel tape recorder and an old military speaker. More than 40 years ago…
This is a pretty solid approach for the PA, especially as you can build it to work with any instrument. You can get plenty of tone out of a processor, pedals or a nice preamp. If you want tube sound, a tube pre on a 100V supply should do it, though it won't be completely the same as the power tube sound.
This is really awesome!! I recently found an empty wooden amp shell that looks like a VOX AC30 2x12 build and have been thinking about retrofitting a cheap, solid-state amp into it to fool everyone into thinking it's some boutique, custom-built tube amp haha but I may go this route instead! Subscribed!
Just goes to show that you don’t need a tom of fancy equipment to make your own cabinets. I wanna make a 4x8 for my Orange Micro Terror, since Blackstar no longer makes theirs.
good job Sean, keeping it real and loud!! Did you see what happened to one of my halfs of melody?? I was thinning the sides and back, the router bit spit out and .2 didn't even slow it down, start again!
I played my bass guitar connected to a DemonFX Microtubes preamp pedal to a Fosi 600W mini audio amp and connected to my 410 Cab. It was LOUD and held up for the hour I was practicing.
I’ve done something like this in recent years, although I’d love to go the modeler route Bluetooth into a power amp…but I have taken a cheap, crappy 3 watt 9v battery powered amp with a single 3 in speaker I found I a resale shop for $2, and had two 4 inch dual-cone center channel speakers from a surround sound system and put them all in a cigar box and converted it to 18v supply (dual 9v compartments)…sounds better but the amp is still sounds like you’re recording a distorted direct signal in a studio….my other project was getting a 1x12 unbranded cabinet I found at a garage sale for $10, removing the speaker and baffle, and converting it to a 4x6 cabinet with some 6” eminence pro sound speakers I also found at a garage sale for like $10 (for all 4 speakers), it sounds pretty damned awesome having my EVH 5150III LBX-S run through it!
People don't realize that most you paid for an amp is the craftsmanship and the company name. Not is the fancy tubes inside it. If you know how to do amps then do your own. I make my passive bass electronics and guitar too. Great quality and durability.
I don't want to put your efforts down as its a decent build and might inspire others. I've got some doubts about your speaker and amp choices though. I'm guessing the actual power rating is 75w rms x2, but that's still too loud for home use, rehearsal rooms and most gig environments. Including tweeters I thought was odd in a guitar amp, expect it would make the sound too fizzy? I'm doubtful your scavenged speakers would be up to the job with that output too...
Those cass-D-amp can only do the 300W when a 24V supply is used. But even the 70W which can be done with 12V will make those chassis go up in smoke soon if not a minimal crossover is used.
@nara4420 If the amplifier does not have a power converter - there is no way to anyone can get 300 watts of power from 24 volts for most standard speakers. Judging by the look - this amplifier does not have a converter.
@@iridios6127 yes, i did a guess, and when calculating it it could be 130W @2 ohms per channel in ideal situation. In reality it'll be less. Anyway it will be too much without a crossover.
You never said what you used for power. I'm not familiar with that particular amp, but it looks like a are thangy. So you used, what, a car battery? I might just use a switching power supply, cuz it's hella lit lighter than a car battery, or a friggin tranzz-former! Yeah, that's a nice job, nice idear. Gonna make me one, guess I'll call it sumpun else, though.
@@jeffro. Why would anyone need a car battery, for this amp? Judging by the type of speakers used, the maximum power is no more than 20 watts. And the weight of the transformer power supply will be half that of all these speakers(or even less) .
@@jeffro. i do not know this amp, but i've seen quite some datasheets of those cheap class-D-amps. According to that they can usually work with 25V, sometimes even more, and the advertisements assume maximum voltage for telling insane high power-ratings. In reality most people use 12V or 14.4 from a car-battery, but some use a power-supply. So i was just doing the math. Assuming 24 volts, reduced by a little loss in the output-transistors and use a 4-channel-amp-chip in BTL-configuration. That gives 2 channels with a maximum of around 44V peak-to-peak output-voltage so you can calc the maximum output wattage at 4 or 2 ohms . P = V²/R , but divide the volts before by 2.8 to get rms power. And the output power can be even a little bit higher because they assume 10% distortion. (that was the wild guess in my initial post)
Interesting. Did you parallel all 3 speakers on each channel? If so your impedance might be on the low side. Since your power amp is enormous, it might not be an issue.
Man that is so cool I love that I bought a spark but had I known I could get one of those LOL I would have bought that instead van great job I love your stuff man
new subscriber here. there's some math you can do to put caps on the tweeters and mid speakers to only play the frequency range they are meant for, and make your cab sound better
Honestly if you have an fx processer like a Neural DSP or a tonex, using one of these power amps is an amazing idea. You can even wire it up to your guitar cab if you know how to do it
If I were the CEO of fender or Gibson I would hate this video being put on UA-cam I would hate it with everything that hate could hate with, why , because this video tells every guitar player that has ever purchased an amplifier in their life that fender and Gibson and Marshall and every other commercial amp producer that has ever made an amp to sell the public has been ripping them off, and charging them too much of an excess to gain profit , it's like when the Chinese made the Les Paul's and copied famous model guitars that have been sold to people in the USA for years ,when China replicated them and sold them for less than $200 a piece , it sent every guitar lover and purchaser the message that for years Gibson and fender have ripped us off royally, and I do think this guy has stumbled upon something that within three years from now he's going to end up being a multi-millionaire because that amplifier sounds boss, I mean really bluesy really rock, it sounds really good and it looks good also, but I think commercially if he will come up with another design that exceeds what the designs on the market are right now and he could probably come up with that new design using AI artificial intelligence. . He reminds me of the unsuspected guy in the crowd that nobody realizes how smart he really is, people would probably judge him as a guy that just feeds horses out in the field with his country Southern accent and I'm from the south I love his accent, but this guy is a hard worker and he's intelligent and it takes those two combinations to become a multi-millionaire it seems, unless you're just given the money or left an inheritance. Yes he has stumbled on something that will probably even promote others to fall in line and try to do their own amplifier and bring it to market but because this guy has all the tools and everything and he has the 3D printers already that he can use to make the knobs the control knobs for amplifiers he's got all the tools to work with and he can hire more people to help him build multiple cabinets if I was him I would take that wisdom and knowledge and understanding that he has been blessed with and I would start producing guitar amplifiers, to think that he was able to build a super super super super good sounding amplifier for so cheap. boy if this should not make all amp purchasers mad nothing else will , to think how ripped off we have been , oh yes if I was the CEO of Gibson or fender I would hate it that he put this video online for other people to see because it tells us all we've been so ripped off over the years. Kevin O'Leary on shark tanks loves guitars you can see a video of him on UA-cam visiting a guitar place that has vintage guitars that sell for tens of thousands of dollars a piece and Kevin can play guitar pretty good, Kevin O'Leary that is on shark tank, if this guy needed cash to start his business up all he would have to do is make a model amplifier that he wants to bring to market and go on shark tank and I can assure you that Kevin O'Leary would probably be the one to give him a million or more to share in the profits of producing those guitar amps but if he doesn't want to borrow money he can just start off small and start building them by hand in his own workshop and sell them as he moves along.
I made my own guitar amp full 100 watt stack tube marshall jcm and a jubalee clone for 400 bucks for each. I been using computer speakers as a easy low volume amp and they sound amazing the lows mediums and highs they are awesome to use the vox headphone amp series of head phone amps with it if you don't wanna use head phones and want a low volume great tone. They sound amazing and I'm gonna make me a speaker cab for my computer speakers j use as low volume amp cause all your really doing is just running a processor of any kind through really tiny version of a pad system like you use at gigs
Whoa! Close eyes, listen! It’s A Fender, No it’s a Supro, wait man that’s a Marshall! That’s just a Jim Dandy Scarr-y Sound Machine! Super job my man! (Excellent speaker placement as well!)
That is hilarious. Obviously not 300 watts, maybe 50, but cute nevertheless. And he certainly should have at least a capacitor on the little mids, or they will blow for sure. (Looks like the tweeters do have a small capacitor on them). Shows creativity, if not experience. Keep experimenting, and good luck. • Note: I would actually consider the little AIYIMA amp module for a project, using a ZOOM G1X FOUR as a pre-amp / processor.
Yes it's only 75 W per side actually without the full power supply, and that's confirmed on a meter, but I just loaned it to my friend and he played a gig with it mic'd and almost wide open for 4 hours, with 15 min breaks and nothing blew up! And he used just his Line 6 Hd500 with it! And it's louder than my Fender front man 212 and my Hot Rod Deluxe, and the speakers are tiny!! I will keep thinking outside of the box, that's guaranteed! Thanks for watching
you need to try it with a band. a loud drummer and a loud bassist playing detuned down to at least c heavy sludge/stonner rock. if it works in that enviroment then yeah its a possibility but till thenill stick with a 100 valve head and 4x12. no diss intended btw
My first amp was an Award Session (Morley) jd10 into the family Stereo... £80 And it takes pedals really well.. I still have it. It does fender cleans and Vox High gain

NICE JOB! I wonder how long those speakers will last with 300 watts going thru them. do you think they'll last?
😎😎
That little amp looks and sounds great!! I most definitely need one. Nice job 👍
When putting screens on wood yo start from short side to short side to stretch material then you put the long sides together
That’s what’s up!! Nice team work and love that grill cloth.
Appreciate it!!

This was a fun video. A perfect little change up.
Now that's just plain cool!
I think that sounds pretty good man! With the built-in drum machine that will make a great practice amp!
Love it! Sounds great.
Sounds great!
One thumbs up for the amp. Two thumbs up for the pooch!
Superb build as usual...
Kick ass job! Recycled speakers and all! Sounds cool as he'll!👍🎸
love it, good to know how to do this if i muster up the courage to try
You can do it!
Pretty cool idea. I'll bet you could sell them online. The little speakers really kick.
Very nice work. I made my bass cab back in the 70s and mounted my speaker on the inside as well.
The new Headrush mx5 is killer for $399 it's got all the same tech and modules as the big $1110 pedal board !
What really surprises me is how decent the speakers sound concerning they came out of pretty inexpensive boxes….
Outstanding video ‼️

I been using computer speakers as a easy low volume amp and they sound amazing the lows mediums and highs they are awesome to use the vox headphone amp series of head phone amps with it if you don't wanna use head phones and want a low volume great tone. They sound amazing and I'm gonna make me a speaker cab for my computer speakers j use as low volume amp cause all your really doing is just running a processor of any kind through really tiny version of a pad system like you use at gigs
Damn you never cease to amaze me!
Very Cool 🤘🏾
Whoa! Close eyes, listen! It’s A Fender, No it’s a Supro, wait man that’s a Marshall! That’s just a Jim Dandy Scarr-y Sound Machine! Super job my man! (Excellent speaker placement as well!)
Hats off to you sir
That's awesome man, inspires me to wanna build my own amp!
surprised it sounded so good with those speakers
Me too
Fun little project, I've got a couple of nice and loud speakers from a compact stereo that broke, seems there is going to be a use for them...
I'd like to see somebody use one of those little joyo tube preamps and do this, it would be awesome.
That's pretty sic. I'm impressed 💯
Great video. Make a Pignose next. 🙂
Audiophile black magic, like most of it. Love the defiance.
And it takes pedals really well..
I still have it. It does fender cleans and Vox High gain
