  • After my daughter and I made a custom kit guitar we needed an amp for her to use and my little battery powered practice amp wasn’t gonna cut it. Since I’ve always wanted to build a tube amp, but was worried I’d be getting in over my head, there was no better way to jump into that world than by making a 57’ Mini Tweed! It’s a pretty simple project and the amp sounds great!

That amp kit costs $849 on stewmac. I thought kits saved money. Geez.

  • @dancotterman1267

Ok, 850 bucks is ridiculous. I was going to sell mine for 250 already built. I guess with labor the amp would cost 1500 bucks? People are crazy. Can you see why people are going for modeling amps now? Interesting video for sure. But no-thanks Stew Mack.

Very nice, I know it’s not too difficult but the interaction with your daughter is priceless.

Great video! But that price is completely unjustified! Close to $1000 yet you get a 5 watt amp which you have to assemble yourself with the risk of getting an electric shock and damaging other components. Who's smoking at Stewmac?

    HOW MUCH?!

I know you are a newbie but that is an eyelet board, there are also turret boards. Point to point is like a 1930's radio where the components are scattered all over near to where they connect. They use some terminal strips but that's it they jump around from this point to that point. The turret/eyelet board was the next advancement followed by couplets, which were the first multi component components. They would have a few resistors and capacitors in one component usually wire 4 to 8 leads. This is an eyelet board construction though not point to point, just saying, not trying to be the know-it-all a-hole but I figured you would want to know.

Now I want to build an amp and to become a father. Not necessarily in that order

I thought this might be a fun project to do with my son. But it sells for about $880 on Amazon. 😂 So this is a hard pass. Considering projects with children is priceless, there are other things that can be built together while considering expense. We moved on to a guitar. Great video, great dad.

This is so wholesome, it hits me home because my dad and I built a 50W JCM800 (granted, it’s a different project and we were both knowledgeable in electronics). If you were able to do this however, I strongly advise you to get into DIY pedals, there are a lot of kits for high-end circuits (such as the klon centaur) for really affordable prices.

By shorting the OT you can easily destroy it. This is not what you want to do :)

Nice, a parent teaching their children how to build and troubleshoot. She'll be able to build anything and understanding how it works. Two concepts we fail to teach, you can do anything, and understanding how it works.👍👍👍

Great job and great father. Working on projects with your daughter is golden. She'll remember that for the rest of her life. I have an original 1963 Fender Tweed Champ amp. Have fun.

  • @brotherdust

Thank you for making this! Such good father-daughter interaction. Your daughter seems very intelligent and verbally sophisticated and it’s a joy to listen to her commentary. It’s also pretty cool you let her drive the soldering iron. Great way to get a kid to respect a potentially dangerous tool.

    Great Job Mike!!

A Tele and a Tweed is a fine way to start her off! Dont let her go around any of those modelling boys!!!

I buy from Stew-Mac but way too expensive for me. But the idea of a DIY tube amp with/for my grand daughter who's learning guitar and mandolin gifted from moi are the kind of memories that will never be forgotten.. The SR 15 watt tube amp was only $249 3 years ago. One day I'll get a parts list and commence with the build. And thank you for the video. I just watched a influencer obliterate 2 tube amps because he didn't like their sound which made me cringe. Your video pulled me back to a kinder reality. lol

  • @RyoCanCan

It's awesome to see your daughter engaged with you on the activity. Cool amp!
