The more I learn about this car the more respect I have for its designers and builders. That was an amazing car for its time! Its a heckuva lot more sophisticated vehicle than my Dad's 55 Ford was!
Love that caddy .I drive mine as often as possible great piece of American car History. Like driving your front room down the road.LOL.and of course those vettes so cool Thanks for sharing your story and experiences with us .Keep them coming .
Hey, I am a new fan of your video's. Not sure if anyone ever said how much they like how you explain the situation of the part you are working on. It is easy to follow you as you work on each part.
I can see you getting your own show. You share your love how GM built their cars.
Please continue your video. I hope someone in television see a great opportunity.....
Best weekends are when a new Ben video comes out! Fog lights look great!
I love your Cadillac. Thank you for saving her from the crusher. You just keep right on being good to that big old empress of the roads.
Ben keep posting videos of your Caddy. It’s nice of you to keep updating us on your projects.
I will never ever get sick of watching your, caddy videos
Pretty amazing to get NOS parts like the fog lamps for a sixty year old car. A testament to mass production!
Great video. Love seeing this Caddy.
New paint is a must for this beauty.
Waaay back in the day my friend had a 53 Olds 98 Holiday coupe, fully loaded and gorgeous, and I loved the way the old Hydramatic shifted as it moved that big heavy car along. Today for the first time in about 60 years I was able to hear that same sound out of your Caddy. Thanks for the memory and keep doing what you're doing.
Heavy car? Here's something to think about:
1953 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight 4-Door Sedan (heaviest one) estimated curb weight: 3980 lbs
2005 Kia Sorento Curb weight: 4,057 to 4,255 lbs
I once had a '55 Old's. Sure do miss that one.
Trans seems to shift nice and smooth. Nice ride, I love the old Caddy's.
That car is so badass just the way it is. An enjoyable driver. Fogs look great !
I'm impressed you still have room to walk around it with that big ole caddy in your garage. I couldn't do that if I had that sled in my garage!
One of the reasons why I bought the house I bought! 24 ft deep garage!
@@TheCorvetteBen i bought the garage came with house detached!love my shop but still need more room .o yea came with a lift.28 x28ft .work in progress.?? what do u know about power brake up date or repair 57 caddy ??didnt notice any brake repair did i miss it?treadle vac something or other power booster inop on friends caddy thanks in advance, john
A quarter of the way to 100K subscribers! Rooting for you to get that Silver Play Button, Ben! Keep up the good work! 👍
Such beautiful cars from the 50s. Thank you for sharing.
Perfect way to end a dull Saturday! Thanks for taking us along to the Post Office! I love the improved look of the new turn signal/fog lights on your treasured DeVille. It looks sweet.
Been following your videos for a while. I sold my 56 Sedan 4 years ago and I’m about to buy it back.
Congrats!
2018-1956
After over twenty years, the Caddy still looks good!
Always enjoy the Caddy videos keep them comming..
Thanks for the ride! Looking good!
I love going for a ride in the Cadillac! That is an awesome car and never too many videos of it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I look forward to these videos! I'm an ol' Caddy Fan!
This car just makes me smile! 😀
Ben, I used that paint with clear coat to paint a Porsche 928 this fall. I wet sanded it and buffed it and it looked awesome. The color was dead on to the original Indian Red color from Porsche. I can send you photos if you want. No need to spend big money on a paint job. The paint even from different batches from different stores....
Merry Christmas to you & yours!
Just amazing to see build quality and durability after so many decades, compared to the overpriced, plastic money pits that barely make it after warranty is up.
Lovely ole caddy, i thought you got rid of the girl..so glad you have her still, now that's a head turner when you go for yr weekly drive...love the ole caddy's
Cold War Motors does not throw anything away!
High Watch ..... except the “Trans am” Volvo.... I saw the video where they hauled her off for scrap at Clayton’s
Scott can fix ANYTHING!!!
@Jonathan Eddy Same with myself.... so true!
That is one Phat Caddy! It would be astounding with new paint but still looks great the way it is. Nice driver! Really enjoy your projects!
Never to many Cadillac videos!
A couple of suggestions that won't cost anything: 1) Use a candle or crayon (basically any paraffin product) to lubricate your doors, They'll open and close easier and make less noise. You can also use the same crayon to lubricate your hood and trunk hinges. It helps a lot! 2) Using the same crayon, you can lubricate the "V" portion of your fan belts to make them EXTRA quiet. 3) Until you have time install the dashboard light switch, you might consider wiring the fog lights to your low beam. (Many old cars with fog lights were wired to the low beams.) 4) Are the trunk hinge springs on the parts cars still there? Are they stronger than the ones on your car? Typically, when you unlock the trunk, it'll pop open about an inch or two without help. I suspect that your trunk springs are kind of tired and don't have the "horsepower" to lift the trunk those first few inches. You mentioned that you'd like your "trunk ajar" light to operate if the trunk is unlocked, but that the switch doesn't "trigger" until the trunk is open a few inches. Stronger trunk springs might help, so might lubricating the trunk hinges. Really enjoy your videos and attitude! How much will it cost to paint the Caddy?
Hi Ben. Just wanted to say both the wife and I loved the Caddy vids. We binge-watched every video. It's cool that this old girl is being restored to her former glory. What a head turner! Maybe one day as time and budget permits, she will get a proper paint job. But that car is a beast, and would cost an arm and leg to paint, so I understand budgetary constraints. And we enjoy the Corvette vids. You do a great job methodically diagnosing a problem and repairing it. I've learned a lot about C3's just watching your videos. There are a ton of Corvette repair/restoration channels out there, and I've heard at least a half dozen refer to you in their videos. So you must be doing something right. It must give you a great sense of satisfaction to take on old, neglected car and get it back on the road again. Nothing like vintage Detroit iron. Keep up the good work and we are working our way through all of your videos. We are looking forward to more.
Ben - The new fog lights look AWESOME!
That thing is a beautiful beast
Sweet. Slowly but surely this car will be as loaded as you come. Good job as always
Really stepped up the level of refinement with those fog lamps and the new fender skirt. Now onto fixing that exhaust leak so the car sounds as good as it looks. Has such a good exhaust note. But that leak REALLY stands out.
Another excellent video. Keep up the good work Ben.
that skirt looks killa
Looks good. Like everything else, always needs something. Looking forward to see how the Olds is coming along. My grandfather had I think a '55-56 98, it was a big boat like the caddy and had the rocket engine in it. Thanks for sharing.
I like the way those look without the skirts. The Eldorados had open wheel wells like that, I always seemed to prefer seeing the wheels.
Keep it up. One step at a time. The lights look great, fender skirt too. Now please dust. Merry Christmas.
That beast sounds incredible!!!
Cadillacs and dinosaurs! I like classics
Nothin wrong with caddy videos Ben!
Would love to see her get the paint and body ✅
Another nice video of my favourite car :) Thanks.
Ben I love it when folks in Texas say “it’s just about a mile down the road.” Heck, everyplace in Texas is just about a mile down the road. El Paso, Houston, Armadilla!
Yay! Another video on the Caddy!
You live in a beautiful place Ben, would love to visit some day. Cheers from Spain and thank you for your videos
Those fog lights look heaps better than those “turn signal only” ones, made a big improvement on the look of the front end. I only wish you showed more footage of the side-skirts or wheel flares (or whatever you call them) as I am quite interested in seeing how they came out. But anyway, great job as always Ben and thanks for an update on the Cadillac 👍
normally in those days and right up to the end of them in the 80s (pontiac) they were referred to as fender skirts, standard on Caddys for years. And at Buick we called them fender skirts, we had them till 76.
5:55 tree like a boot in the sky... random thought!
Great job, Ben. The fog lights look great. I enjoyed the ride in the Caddy.
In honor of the old relic look, I like the faded paint and choice rust. It looks like broken in jeans. But if painting it floats the owner’s boat, hey find your bliss. After all the Caddy belongs to CorvetteBen!
A lot of these old cars get to the point where the Exhaust manifolds warp slightly from heating and cooling thousands of times. I had mine sanded down on a flat table. Got all the ports to the same level. Haven't had a problem in that area for years. I have to get a heat riser for my 53 convertible. My bolts are all the same thread. Someone probably got to yours many years ago on your 56. I've seen that in the garages I've worked Nice Car ! Skirt looks great ..
Loving this car too Ben, best to you man and Merry Christmas
Great Video.. Looking Amazing.. Happy Holidays..
So cool!
I love this old cadillac. And icsi
Take your time. Save up money if you care to paint. The key is you have a driving car. Best regards 👍
The fog lights make the car look much more like a Cadillac! That old skirt can be welded up without much work. It's worth saving, as there not made anymore. You should try to sell it, rather than throw it away... someone might be happy to have it, and repair it.
I guess, but why would you but mine, when you can buy rust free skirts? There are still plenty to be had
@@TheCorvetteBen Some buyers have more time than money, and are more than happy to pay way less for a part that needs a little work, and spend a little time fixing it up... like coldwarmotors and myself for example.
Nice upgrades
I love this car.
wow Ben! love your vids out in Socal!
Great car!
Always great content Ben, I'm sure you could sell that rusty skirt to someone! Love riding in the caddy raise the camera a bit higher next time felt like I was 5 and couldn't see over the dash..lol
Always like to see this car. I have a '59 but wish I also had a patina machine like yours! Looking forward to hearing it without the exhaust leak.
I like the cadi’s vids
Love that old Caddy. Any plans to put the factory dual quad set up back on it?
Cadillac yesterday, Cadillac today, Cadillac forever!!! The late George Wallace had the subject wrong, not the formulation. The new year is coming and it's time for a little renewal. Yay, Cadillac.
Also it's still look good without the skirts so it could go either way nice I like your tires what kind of are they they look they make the car look really heavy and nice.
Cooker classics
There are those starter shims I was talking about on the Oldsmobubble. They work in the foglamps on Caddies, who knew?
I thought those were upper control arm shims?
Great video series. I think your Caddy would be a blast to drive. I personally would not repaint the car, just leave the patina as is. I think you had stated that you don’t plan to restore any further? Can only imagine what that car looked like on the showroom floor in 1956😃.
I saw the new Corvette yesterday in TN. It looked like a cross between a Tesla and George Jetson's car. It was fire engine red and had razor sharp lines like newer Cadillacs. Save your pennies.
I subbed for the 'vette video's. Tittle's not TheCaddyBen.
Well you sure live up to your screen name!
Hello Ben, I like your comment from "nasty winter weather" in texas. Here in austria/vienna we have a lot of snow and ten degrees minuns. Yesterday I took 10 Centimeter snow from my C4. Thanks for the video, driving to post office. I whish can drive now on Texas roads ... no salt an snow ... Best Regards from Winterwonderland ... and please do not paint your Caddy, I like the look soooooo much
"Pimp My Ride".....Honestly, I love your car...and the love you put into it. You're one way cool guy....from Corvette to Caddy, to Olds. How about a 61 Tempest, rear transaxle, 4 cul, with a torque tube. Designed by John DeLorean.
I would really love to see you Paint this car with rattle cans, and then How about some Lube On the door hinges?
Always like seeing and hearing this car. I noticed a bottle on the back fender, did you drive off with it on there?
Good job kid! Keep our babies home in the good shape! These are not just a cars. These are time machines.
In 1956-57 Soviets had purchased a fleet of American cars for their's development of GAZ 13 Chaika (chaika means seagull) & ZiL 111. Those cars were never available for a general public but for gov. officials only. So if you take a look inside a 1958-62 ZiL 111 you'll see a 1956 Cady's interior! So this is how American cars were popular at that time. Even a "archenemy" loved them so badly! And now... I think the Packard's plant is gonna become another shopping mall to sell a smartphones and T-shirts with stupid words on them from Bangladesh! God bless them! How did we come up with this crap anyway!
Those lights are called "Parking Lights" not Fog Lights that were used in those cars ..
Ben two things, looking at your tires you seem to be running low on the front left at 9:51 and with how nice this car is coming along, maybe it IS time to paint it, like a nice satin version of its current color, or even like a pale yellow, which I think honestly with the white top and white interior, might look better on it. As its getting to the point where its too nice to be a ratrod anymore. And you did all that work to the engine, the body, the kick panels and all that over all those years,
hell maybe even just a vinly wrap on the area's that need it like the doors and trunk, actually maybe this should go to canada for a cold war meets corvette ben colab for that lol
as he does do quality shitty work lol and he did all that work for free on that pegeuot he was selling, like maybe ask him if theirs a car he's looking for and pick it up for him in trade for him doing the paintjob.
as he is always looking for citroen SM's it seems like, or send him a corvette for doing it, as you never know, as what's normal to you, is exotic to him, and vice versa.
just like it is with sending a covette over to europe
and I swear looking those closely at the front of thing keeps me thinking that this is going to start playing all of a sudden lol

I enjoyed your 56 caddy project. I am working on my 55 Cadillac, its was a plain jain. I have a solid car, completely restored under the hood, engine, trans, breaks, wiring, ect. Now I want to add all the goodies and gadgets I can. Air, power seats, windows, power trunk, ect, do you have any advice?
Buy a parts car
A new exhaust and a set of front springs/rear leaf springs and she'll be like a new car, ya pretty much did everything else so, why not?? $$
Parents had a '56 Sedan DeVille (pink!) and a maroon '56 Continental MKII. The Caddy got sold ... I still have the MKII (near perfect). Actually, I'd rather have the Caddy ... much more "fun car." I mean, you gotta have fins and bullets! STYLIN' The Conti was way better-built, but sort of boring.
Need to have a video of your convertible corvette?!!
Did you ever change the hood from the donor car? also are you going to install the dashboard high beam from the donor car and is the air condition any good
Ben; That's the year Caddy where the gas tank filler neck is hidden in the tail light, YES?
I don't know if you noticed there is a tree on the right side that looks like a boot.Do you plan on painting the caddy.
Cadillac 🤗
you can tone down that paint in a hurry with a light scotch brite or wetsand a bit with 400 grit will dull it down nice and quick.
Ive been binge watching your restor -- do you have plans on doing the AC this summer?
Window strike could be fixed.
funny cuz right after you said you didn't like the sound of the exhaust leak, I was thinking the Cadillac shouldn't sound like that I don't think it did when it was new
More Caddy videos
Spend the money paying it make it look new
It's your zae.. paint it for your raste
I liked the Cadillac and the ride but I felt like a little kid again not tall enough to see the road ahead.
do you have any forums that you use for the caddy?
I thought a UFO was following you, but here it was just a dirt mark on your windshield.
What size engine?
