Hey everyone! Be sure to palm mute the verses. Thank you for your requests with this song. I had a lot of fun learning and recording it. In this video, I wanted to highlight the song's intro. Kurt Cobain picks behind the bridge piece while hammering on with his left hand fingers. It's worth noting that the pitch of the strings in this area may vary depending on the instrument you choose to play this song on. Since Kurt's picking pattern in the original recording is not completely consistent, I've tabbed out the notes and tried to play them back exactly the same way he did. Unfortunately, there is no live footage available for reference, so I made educated guesses on the downstrokes and upstrokes. Feel free to pick a standard pattern from any of the measures and stick with it for the verses, choruses, etc. On a lighter note, I'd like to mention that this video is not actually sponsored by Pennyroyal tea, but hey, check out their website anyway! Now, I'd love to hear from you. What would be the next Nirvana song you'd like to see on this channel? Let me know in the comments below! 🎸 Keep rocking, and stay tuned for more awesome content! 🤘
Hi Patrick ! Thank you very much for all your awesome videos ! Can you do a cover of Pennyroyal Tea and The Man who sold the World by Nirvana please ? See you soon !
It's funny that these nowadays "guitar players" that play a thousand notes per second usually talk bad shit about Kurt Cobain guitar skills, but still Kurt is one of the most influential and most criative guitar players of all time in Rock, the dude could pick a couple of notes and create great memorable riffs and even solos, that's in the end what makes a great guitar player, so yes, if you ask me Kurt was one of the most important guitar players of all time in music, period
I’m a guitar player who definitely over indulges in the shred style of playing but nirvana songs are some of my favorite to play and the band in general is top 5 for me if you want an artist who also could shred I would look into Jason Becker that man played at mac 10 but could still move one to tears
nah bro the not talked about songs are in incesticde and bleach and also the every other demo, unreleased songs and most on bleach and incesticde are good
that distortion guitar tone is an eargasm. I love how you're A SUPER skilled guitarist but you seem to appreciate nirvana and Kurts simplistic guitar playing. awesome tab video as always 🙏🏻
People that shit on "simple" guitar playing are annoying as hell. It comes from a place of thinking they're better and more complex playing should equal more popularity, but that's not life
I still remember first time I heard this on radio I actually had to stop stacking firewood because my ears were like is that new Nirvana? It can't be...
@@davidchez513 what?? Everyone jerk off on something in the way or a song like négative creep, which are objectively and musically shitty. This one is a good basic rock song. The songwriting is correct.
If he weren't murdered, I agree, yes. He was leaving the band anyways as his note told all of us. He wasn't leaving the planet.... his life was cut short by greedy psychopaths. His own best friend even. Sad and tragic. It put me and millions of others into a bad depression for 10 years or more. I am glad justice for Kurt will finally come about as the case reopens one day soon..... we will see.
For those that may not know, that intro chime with the playing behind the bridge? That's really a thing Kurt got from Sonic Youth, they used that technique sometimes. Kurt was known to be a big fan of SY. That's a thing I really appreciate about Kurt, he had great influences in music.
Dude no WAY I LOVE THIS SONG!!! Holy crap this is kind of a deep cut I feel like, dude thank you so much!!! HYPE!!!! Edit: Man I say this every single time but holy shit did you absolutely NAIL the tone, and as always the playing. That tone is absolute candy to my ears as a huge Nirvana fan.
What a thing, I go to UA-cam and find this video in my recommendations, I didn't imagine that you were going to cover this song, it is one of my favorites and it is not very well known, this is the video that nobody expected but we all needed :)
Sounds great! This is one of the few nirvana songs I never got round to learning as I don’t own a guitar with strings behind the bridge so the intro was out of the question. Finally got round to ordering one so looking forward to learning this 😊
Love this song. You nailed it. You know you're right! Nice job. I will put this in my bookmarks for learning. Thank you for the clear view of the fretboard and your finger placement....and the tab to go along with it. Like my name says, time to hit the bong (ok it doesn't say it! lmao) :-)
I love this song! Although it's not one of their most famous ones, it really shows Kurt's creativity and songwriting! By the way, you think you could do Sugar from SOAD?
Hey man I love your videos man they help me a lot. But I was wondering is it more beneficial to learn from tabs or to learn through music sheets with just the notes? I’m sorry if this is a dumb question I’ve just started playing and your videos actually inspired me!
Musical notation doesn't tell you which position to play in. (On the piano each note is only found in one place. On the guitar there are some notes which are sound in several places). Only tab tells you exactly where on the neck to play. So I recommend tabs. But also, eventually it should be a goal to work out some songs by ear, or at least simple melodies anyway. In the meantime I'm happy to help!
For all tones and effects I use software called Amplitube Max. This software contains many virtual amps and pedals. The plug-ins are available to all my Patreon subscribers so you that if you have Amplitube Max yourself, you can get exactly the same tone as me at home. I also offer screenshots of the virtual amps and pedals so that if you don’t have Amplitube you can attempt to replicate the tone using whatever equipment you have available. Great guitar riffage in this song. Very cool behind the bridge picking part, I would have figured that was behind the *nut* picking. Guess where I picked that trick up? CC DeVille on "Strange Days of Uncle Jack" (first track on their "Flesh and Blood" album). I met him on that tour and asked him specifically about the intro part on that song, it's kind of a harp-like plucking sound but still sounds like a guitar is playing it. It's a technique you don't hear too often and once you know what it is you kind of never miss it when you do hear it. Makes sense you can also do it behind the bridge on an appropriate guitar like a Jazzmaster. You guys need to do more deep cuts like this - surprise us! Are you using that Aeroband midi guitar for bass and drums at this point? From your Super Mario video that thing looked pretty amazing for what you do here, looks like a cool piece of gear.

if you use drop d and pinch the frets in the Kurt style with two fingers on three strings(6,5,4) at the same time, it will sound identical to the original.

Because those are guitarists, Kurdt was a musician (one of the all-time great musicians). Something completely lost on guitarists.

idk if u already figured it out but simply just put alot distortion on your guitar and let the sound ring
