- With Taylor Swift's new album "Lover" debuting Taylor and her team took it upon themselves to create merch that joins it. Unfortunately, she tapped Stella McCartney making me have to react to this eyesore of a "collection". Between $2000 jackets and 100% cotton there's a lot to discuss.

this collection is really hideous. It was such a good opportunity to make merch that doesn't look that merch-y, and they wasted it. I don't really see Stellas part in this, Taylors team could've totally came up with this on their own.
This feels really forced and stupid, i feel like celebrities collaborating with big fashion designers and selling the most generic merch ever is just a trick so they can take even more money. It would be really cool if they have done something actually interesting and brought merch elements together with some interesting clothing so that collection could have at least some impact on both people interested in fashion and taylor fans. These shirts look like something absolutely any graphic designer could do.

As a Taylor fan this line is so disappointing. An actual collection of beautiful sustainable clothes with that pretty pastel vibes would have been amazing. But they just made merch which is mostly wearable for teens.
Taylor has older fans who will buy the $2000 bomber and more in that style with less of the logo would have been appreciated by the swifties and general fashion lovers.
They made this collection that was supposed to last forever so forgettable.

I def agree, but it is still merch. Merch typically only oncludes things like tshirts hoodies jackets hats and maybe sweatpants. So, i mean, im not surprised that they didnt do any skirts. But i guess they couldve done a halter and it still wouldve felt like merch.

As a fan of both Taylor and Stella, I was stoked to hear about the collaboration! I thought "wow, maybe Taylor will finally have wearable merch!" I was wrong. It's kind of a tragedy, throughout her enter career all of her merch has had the potential of being truly amazing but instead, she seems to settle for whatever the first offbeat mockup is.

I think Taylor shouldn’t treat fashion the same way she does with her music. She likes to put too much of her personality and what she likes in her work. It’s great but it doesn’t work in fashion. Her main focus should have been on making aesthetically pleasing, simple and clean designs, so all of her different fans can wear them
Taylor didn't design it tho. I think it actually has a lot of Stella's personality and history in it because in the video she mentions about a thousand times that she was a summer of love child and that she was inspired by the her childhood memories of trips and love and farmlands or something like that.

Honestly...if the merch was like under 40 dollars then I could be down with buying it. Only because it looks cheaps and it’s that Jersey Shore airbrush air crap so I get it. I was underwhelmed at this collab as well. I didn't get the "fashion" part of it. It was just plain merch. I bought the water bottle, the pins for my jean jackets, and two shirts that were very plain for the price, but I had been wanting to buy merch for a while now. I didn't buy anything from the reputation era because it was worse than this line. 😅 Anyway, I hope I can return the items if I end up feeling indifferent about them. 🙃

i do think there will be a market for the super expensive taylor swift merch unfortunately. there are people at a certain level of wealth who live in an absolute void of culture, think taylor swift is a powerful feminist vocalist, and see this as the height of fashion. for example: graveyardgirl. it is ugly AS. they clearly think they're being super streetwear and that they're catching the 90s throwback instagram trend but taylor as a performer is the afterschool special of pop stars, she takes everything too far and has absolutely zero depth or nuance. she was the girl who thought the whole 2013 "eyeliner sharp enough to stab a man to death, makeup is my weapon against the patriarchy!" shit seriously.

The creative elements didn't address it's functionality as graphic design well enough to deliver a cohesive impact to the audience.
There's too much going on with too little thought placed on it's overall look.

I think that maybe the merchandise should have played more with themes from the music videos and album lyrics. Additionally, I would have liked to have seen this merchandise branch out beyond traditional concert attire. I personally could see the same color scheme in tie dye on a dress, but featuring extremely small scale print/ pattern of people flying around on umbrellas, from the ME! music video. However, it would look best if it was a print that isn’t in your face with the people flying on umbrellas, but rather something you need to see up close to notice. It could be a design that almost looks like a houndstooth from a distance and then up close you would see the people. Similar pieces could also play with other visuals from the music video. Additionally, the color scheme and people with umbrellas could work for future spring seasons and not just be for wearing it to support the album.
It's a missed opportunity... Having a designer like Stella design merch was supposed to up the merch game. Make it actually fashionable. But it's still mostly just basic merch. Nothing new or interesting. Taylor's last merch line was more appealing than this. I only like the Tshirts that have the lyrics on them. Simple is good.

when she first announced this line, i originally thought it would be dresses or something she wore in the album cover art. but with her fans being mainly teens and 20-somethings, i had a feeling it would just be t shirts and hoodies that looked a bit more artsy that the regular merch on her website
