- This crochet stitch tutorial walks you through how-to crochet the Star Stitch, aka the 5-Spike Marguerite stitch. This tutorial is for when you are working this stitch flat (turning and going back the other direction after each round). In this video, I am using Bernat Maker Home Dec yarn and a 6.5mm hook. For free patterns using this stitch, be sure to check out my blog: craftingforweeks.com.
Best explanation I found on the internet!! Clear and straight to the point unlike the others who take like 20 minutes to explain one stitch. Thank you!
I also have looked at every star stitch video on You Tube and yours is the best. Very clear instructions. Giving the parts of the stitch names was very helpful. I like that you started with a foundation of single crochets and used the half double crochet on the back row.
I agree! 🙂
I thought it was a perfect video. I appreciate the more advanced take on a crochet tutorial, not have the person show how to chain, and show how to do the single crochet and then finally (not before 5 minutes into the video) finally explain the main stitch for the tutorial. And it was sorry enough that when I needed reference a certain stage of the stitch I really rewind or fast forward.
Thank you very much!??👍👍 💻
Excellent - short, concise, and informational. tfs! I liked and subbed!
Your video and explanation were so much better and easier to follow than some yarn brand instructional tutorials! I tried to follow another and could never get it right. I followed along with you and nailed it the first time! Thank you.
Looked at all star stitch video's, yours is the best by far. Thank you for doing it. I have never subscribed or commented on anything ever and I'm 67, so I was inspired to comment and subscribe. It's beautiful.
Perfect and straight to the point instructions. Thank you.
This is such a lovely and simple tutorial. Thank you so much 😊
Hello, I watched several videos to learn how to crochet star stitch. Out of all the videos, I have to say yours was the best one fro me. I only wish you continued few star stitches on the third row. Thank you very much. Your yarn looked different, too. I wish there were some information about the yarn. Despite that, I still think your video was the best. Thank you, again.
Hi! Thanks for watching! Sorry about that. If I could add a quick clip to it, I would. But I can help you with the yarn. It’s Bernat Maker Home Dec yarn. It’s has some similarities to a t-shirt yarn. I like to use it for videos because I think it has great stitch definition.
Great tutorial, I've tried this stitch a few times before and got frustrated. This was perfect, I'm so excited to finally master the start stitch. Thank you!
I like this tutorial with the hdc for the 2nd row. Looks so much better, to me, than the sc row. Very well explained, I think.
Of all the videos I watched this is the clearest way how to crochet a star stich 😍😍 though it's fast but at least it's clear and very detailed
Wonderful tutorial for this lovely stitch. I'm going to try it as a washcloth to practice for a scarf. Thank you.
This has been the one and only tutorial that has come out perfect. I've tried 3 others and they just don't work
I loved this tutorial, it was easy to see and understand and i love that you dont explain what ch, sc and hdc is because i find that so ennoying
Thank you for your simple and easy to learn video!
omg thank you. no one explains this such well
Thank you for your short and clear tutorial!💝🌹
Thank you for a short and simplistic tutorial. This will help me a lot with my hat I am making. :)
Thanks so much for posting this. I'm making your Ocean’s Breath Key Fobs and this helped tremendously.
Excellent tutorial. Clear and concise! Easy to follow. I hate watching 15 minutes for 5 minutes of tutorial.
;; this is the best video ever. Absolutely perfect. Thank you so much!!!
I love your voice and tutorials. Your voice is so calming that learning new stitch techniques isn’t so intimidating! Can you share what type of material you are doing the star stitch tutorial with? It doesn’t appear to be yarn but I love the results of its product and would like to get some to do new stitch tutorials with. Yarn can sometimes be too fuzzy to see one’s detailed work when learning and to make sure one can clearly see their results when checking their test work next to the correct stitch visual you have presented at the end of each demonstration. Thanks!
Beautiful motif,, thank you so much for very clear tutorial, I will try next 👍
Thank you so much. And it works! Perfectly
Superb instructions 👌 thanks!
Thank you so much!👏👏
best explanation! Thank you!
Fantastic great tutorial thanks
I hope both sides of your pillow are crisp chill at night. I hope you never run out of your favorite condiment. I hope you’re always first in line at Starbucks. Lastly I hope you never run out of yarn. Thank you oh wise one. 🙇♀️🙏
Thank you so much for this tutorial! 🙂
I love this stitch, I would love to make one benne hat 👒
Excellent thanks x
thank you❤
Thank you! That's beautiful! I'm having a hard time seeing. I was wondering if you could help me to understand how to work the ends?
Allez sur la roue crantée en haut à droite, vous savez diminué la vitesse et cliquez sur le petit carré en bas à droite, pour agrandir la vidéo 😊
How long was your initial chain? Meaning, was it an even number which resulted in an odd number of the single crochet "foundation" chain? Am I understanding that correctly and/or explaining that clearly?
This is great, thank you!
Neat stitch, how can you use this stitch to make a Cross? how would you turn to get 4 sides??
Thank you so much! It's so easy! ♥️
شكرا thanks
Thank you..
U should explain from the beginning. I know how to do this star stitch. I am saying this cause there r many beginners out there. Good luck.
Um a beginner and this was crystal clear
;; this is crystal clear honestly. I’m no beginner but this stitch always seemed to escape my wits lol. And now I can’t wait to incorporate it into my work.
I’m beginner and this was the best tutorial I found on yt
How would I do this in the rounds, would I need a odd number of stitches again?
I have tried 6 times, and one end comes out straight, and the does not. It wants to narrow inward . What am I doing wrong?
What yarn are you using?
To the point 👍🏾
What's the name of the yarn used in this video
Hola! Qué haces en las primeras vueltas?

Unable to view your work as the lighting is not perfect and a shadow of your hand is blocking the light. 😢😢😢
White against white and kind of far.... Not very clear.
It would be helpful if the camera was closer. I couldn’t see the details.
Confusing.
silver hook, white yarn, white background, fingers blocking view.......so hard to see.
Your visual is not close enough for me to see what you are doing. Please show a close up and go a little slower.
Hard time hearing you
