Thanks for watching!
previous generation looked so much nicer
Too much ev not enough ice. Sad to see bmw going the wrong way.
Agree. This is the worst iteration of the 5 series.
Yeah the exterior was like a true luxury RWD-proportion, low sedan...like it always was until now
so you would reject it if i gave it to you for free?
@@saeedm8186 yes
As tested $70,000.. Wow, i remember these were 40, 50 thousand around 10 years ago…
Gross, isn’t it.
70k is the same as 50k buying power in the 2010s
Honda civic costs 50k thesedays
Toyota Supra 3.0 Premium is $60K MSRP
all car prices have gone up here. 40 K Euro (=42-43K Dollars) for mid spec golf where I live now.... that is golf with a 1.5 etsi
Base Hyundais have lane assist and adaptive cruise control these days
But then again base Hyundai's wont cruise at 250 km/h in perfect comfort and silence.
@@derbigpr500 america and most of the world have speed limits.
@@gullible119speed limit 😂😂
@@derbigpr500This BMW won’t either, at least not for very long. It will be constantly running out of gas or breaking down at those speeds.
hyundai's are noisy af, unreliable lane assist as well. stop glorifying it already.
I look at this and then my F10 530i and I don't know whether to cry or laugh. This doesn't even deserve a BMW badge on it.
Y’all say this about every new generation bmw people were saying this about the e60 now it’s beloved. BMW is always ahead of there time you will see.

@@Flikksverdelger aight bro this is how design works. It will become more refined over the years. The modern bmws of past started with the e60 and e90 which aren’t perfect but the f80 and f82 are probably one of the best looking coupe/sedans of the last decade. But sure typical bmw fan logic fs.
@@Flikksverdelger Toyota Camry fan shhh
@@langraman8756At least Toyota don't scam people $70,000 for a 4 cylinder that is nowhere nearly as reliable. So 🤫 you 🤡.
It’s official… you two are the modern day Siskel and Ebert of the UA-cam car reviewing world. 😊
That’s a good one. 😂
No adaptive cruise control on a $70k+ car?! ACC is standard on a Civic and Corolla!
These will be great for $30k in two years =)
The Spare Tire like that in the trunk is just crazy
It is so janky lol. I mean, I get that it is an option, but you'd think there would be somewhat nicer packaging for it.
Think the average BMW buyer loves touchscreens. The thick steering wheel is very nice for arthritis (average age is like 55). Maybe one day they'll change their target demographic but i doubt it.
Love the reviews with Topher and Subs. Topher together!
Please do a test drive review of the 540i xDrive. Hardly anyone has done one.
The double tougher review is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Do moooorrree!!!!!!! Thank you guys
I’ve got that infotainment setup on my 2023 G20 LCI, I must say I got used to it quite quickly. Yes some of the options are a bit buried in menus, but most of this are one-off setups when you first get the car. The climate controls would be great as some nice-clicking buttons but they’re at least always there on the display and really you just whack it in auto at a comfortable temperature most of the time and it does it’s thing. CarPlay and the Nav looks fantastic on the display though. There’s two buttons I really miss tho from my previous F30:
The drivetrain mode selector - it used to be one contoured button you press down/up on to cycle through the modes and it was very easy to feel for it without taking your eyes off the road and you knew you press it down for ECO, up for Sport etc. Now each mode is a separate button and trying to find the right one without looking down is more of a faff.
The other is the auto wiper switch - it used to be a button on the end of the stalk that activates the auto function, which meant you could still kick the stalk down for a single wipe if the sensor takes a bit long and it would still keep the auto on. Now you move the stalk up a position to put it in auto, but it means you can’t easily do a manual wipe by knocking it down without toggling it off and out of auto. So you have to repeatedly move it from auto to off, knock it down for a manual wipe, back up to auto. You could make the wipers more sensitive but I find even one notch up they’re often too panicky.
Overall, I like more than I dislike in the infotainment even if it does have room for some tweaks.
topher: 8% want touchscreen controls
substitute topher: they must drive teslas
topher: or they might just... like crashing
😂😂😂
BMW are taking a strange “not appealing to me” design turn.
I hate their new design
Exterior is meh but the interior is terrible looking for a luxury car
The new Bowers & Wilkins system is not as good as the old one. So many details are missing. Also the subwoofer below the front seats.
In the G30 it was far more expensive but way better.
This here is like the Harman/Kardon system in the old one ( same price ). And the Harman/Kardon system now is like the HIFI System in the old one ( same price).
I think it is a shame how BMW is tricking the customers with the badging.
It's comments like this from the vehicle experts that I like to find
100% Doesn't even remotely compare to the proper 1400W system found in previous G30. Real let down on BMW's part.
The interior is a massive step back.
The usability is really poor (as with most new cars) but the interior design and quality are superb. Futuristic yet original design, interesting materials and trim choices, put together really well. Overall it feels more solid and expensive than the G30 in-person.
You should show off the brake lights/blinkers/reverse lights/headlight modes, it’s easier since you have two people (one to control the lights, the other to record from the outside). Especially since you said it had an interesting rear mounted reverse light but then you don’t show it in action at all
I like these new takes on a shifter in the automatic cars. New Audis, Porsches and now BMW have these smaller drive selectors that make the center console area look more roomy. I like that you don't have to worry about hitting your drink on the shifter when you take it out of the holders.
maybe have the cupholders behind the shifter? these shifters are gross imo but do free up some space but then again, why not fit it to the steering column?
Everyone made fun of it when the current 911 came out, but functionally I really like it after living with it.
Only thing I miss is being able to shift with it, which is sometimes more fun than shifters.
This feels like a review of a new car manufacturers first concept car. Lots of “odd choices” and options missing and just weird ergonomics.
90s bmw had the best styling ,
Comfortable and stylish ride
The ultimate average machine.
the new 540 is the real sweet spot. You can configure it to be as low as ~$68k, and get that hopefully also underrated 375hp i6 engine. The ultimate leasing machine!
540 is the best one.
Since you both noted this - the spare tire cover (trunk floor) is just missing from your vehicle. It’s not actually that naked.
The ea888 in vw/audi is the best modern 4 cylinder. Blends speed, reliability and fuel economy all in one. Other the the k20/24 in hondas probably takes the win as overall best 4 cylinder
Having owned cars with both, I'd argue the BMW engine is smoother and more refined.
I’m an Audi guy, but the B48 is the best 4 cylinder made. It definitely doesn’t feel like a 4 cylinder. The 2.0 Audi feels like a 4 cylinder.
Audis tuning is boring on the 2.0. The B48 is tuned perfectly. It’s a smaller version of the legendary B58.
This reminds me so much of the E60.
Hi topher
B48 > the one on the CTR?
I think so. B48 moves 4K lb luxury cars to 60 in 5.5 sec yet somehow still gets 40mpg on the highway.
I agree with Topher. Lets lose the tech.
PLease review the new 2024 540i Xdrive
I nominate sub topher (in that sweater) to also be substitute Oscar Piastri
Please Give us a Detailed Review of the Mercedes CLE 450 & 53. Big Thnx❤
Fully loaded Audi S5 with a 3.0 turbo 6 costs the same.
FYI: The S5 Sportback (compact sedan) is a smaller car than the 5 series (mid-size sedan). If you're talking about the 2-door S5 then no one is cross-shopping that with a base 5-series
@@lawlkings it’s only a little smaller. Both will be fine for four and effectively the same for two.
@@mfmf100 I'd say it is noticeably smaller. I was in my friend's 2023 A5 Sportback, sitting in the backseat with just one of my other buddy. Even though the backseat has three seats and it was only two of us sitting on separate ends, our shoulders were essentially close enough to make contact. We don't have this issue in mid-size sedans.
the s5 competes with the m440i
This is comparable to A6.
Looks great on the inside. The outside though....
If you compare this 530i with the same year GTI, which is better in terms of performance?
GTI cause it’s smaller and lighter. The B48 in a GTI would be fun.
Only the steering wheel looks great
k20c1 is the no1 4 cylinder. hands down.
If you are a Honda fan.
Overpriced 2.0 l 4-banger. I'd go with 540i or X5 40i (both XDrive).
B58 is the only way.
$60k for a 4 cylinder…ouch.
We have an X5 and voice control is almost flawless. It learns your voice over time. It will adapt via AI as well. A week and a few commands isn’t quite enough to evaluate the system - trust me..
I have the 2016 model of this car
It seems like you get a lot of gimmicky tech in lieu of some more essential tech which should really be standard at the price point.
My dad has a 24 x5 and any time I move the seat it shows up on the screen then fucks everything up the it’s like 5 touches to change the dam climate control and I’ve never been so confused how to turn on my seat warmer
damn ... where the hood insulation pad go bmw...
Going from the G30/F90 to this feels like a crime 😭
Lol the trunk and spare tyre 🛞 toy!
pretty slow for a bmw, if it's cheap used maybe it's a decent buy? but that power for bmw price is insulting.
U have to remember that bmw always heavily understates their cars on paper 0-60 times. Heavily.
Real car guys want manual controls. Non car people want touch screens.
It’s most likely that car enthusiasts aren’t going to purchase this
the amg 4 cyl is the best 4 cyl. lmao legit F1 technology. the b48 ain’t even close 😂😂
Ive seen it in person and it looks waaayyy better.
It’s kinda hideous. Worst iteration of the 5 series. It’s not a Kia.
G30 5 series was better in its design, and it was my favourite looking 5 series.
I love the chassis and design in the new 5-series, but god the steering wheel was horrendous.
Not to dis BMWs design language, But that gauge cluster/infotainment looks like a long rectangle was stapled to the dash. Audi and Merc integrate much better
I think the Porsche macan 2.0T is the best personally
B48 is much better. 2.0 is just the VW engine.
VW still has the notorious water pump failures after 20 years. All the 2.0’s still have bad plastic design water pumps. All start leaking around 20k miles. Need to be changed every two years.
I still can’t believe Porsche uses this engine.
I had it in the Golf R, and it went bad at 22k. Luckily I traded it in for an RS3.
My ex girlfriends 2014 328 had the B48 first gen. She still has it to this day with 125k. Only did a fuel pump, 2 sets of tires and brakes. That car still drive brand new. Aged extremely well.
I would only choose the B58 6 cylinder though. Makes good power stock and is highly tunable. Plus it sounds great and is reliable.
Disagree on the engine. Mazda 4-cylinder turbo sky-active engine is better
That’s a good one, but it doesn’t have the power and efficiency of the BMW one even though it’s truly smooth as a butter. Consider the price I will say it’s definitely more value and the best in its class
i do not understand the struggle you have with iDrive 8.5. I find it the easiest system to use while driving on the market at the moment. I do have the i4 with 8.5 which has a slightly less gimmicky approach to it. But as far as usability goes it is as good as it gets nowadays IMO. I have only had it for 2 months and it has annoyed me about 0 times. Unlike the EV6 interface i had before....
Compared to the competition, it’s horrible.
@@applesauce2856 I do not see it. I have daily driven about 8 cars in like 6 years (very long story) and this is the first infotainment system that does not annoy me in any way.
Toyota corolla 2019, Kia EV6, VW Golf mk8, Volvo XC40, and Tesla model 3 just to name a few of them.
@@applesauce2856 yeh Toyota has horrible screen
I had an X1 as a loaner, and the infotainment was a little tedious to navigate. Compared to iDrive 7 like we have in our X3, iDrive 8 seems like a step backward in terms of usability.
@@ARentz07 use the touch screen
What a shame - I drive a 2011 BMW 328i xDrive Sport Wagon, 6 speed manual w/ a single hump. I wouldn’t buy a new BMW unless it was the X5 M or X3 M.. the rest look too ugly! I hate to say it but I think if the 3 Germans (BMW, Benz, and Audi) Audi might be the best currently.. Porsche is the best German manufacturer in my opinion, though they’re a step above all 3
The exterior is fine it’s the four cylinder that’s a no for me dawg
Personally I think it’s ridiculous all the drive aids are not standard. Especially at that price and the fact it’s a 4 cylinder, BMW should have thrown buyers a bone. 😢
This generation definitely looks better in person. Which is a real shame, 'cause the last one was flawless from every angle..
40 secs ago is crazy
Do you actually talk like that in real life? Please say no.
@@joeaardvark9214are you special or something, its the internet probably your first time
@@Aui_stormchaser Saying something is "crazy" after making a basic observation is r-worded zoomer speak and you will continue to be made fun of for it.
Congrats???
Not enough of a well thought out or sorted product for 70k.
T his 5 series just seems like a mistake
70 000 $US to argue with your car. You didn’t even put it in drive that I already hated it.
I hate light steering. A little weight makes it much more relaxing to drive especially with a quick rack.
Damn… BMWs are just lame and boxy now, G20 and G8x are all that’s left. I can’t wait to see how they’ll ruin those next!
The 540 is the sweet spot. B58 is the best one.
I hate those big screens. They raise anxiety because they are big and bright in your face. I miss the old subtle screens and manual controls.
I also hate all the black exteriors pieces on the bumpers and bottoms. Looks extremely tacky.
Huge fail for BMW!
Exterior looks like an everyday no name sedan from Japan. What happened.
camry 4 cylinder engine is the best
Not for performance. Plus when you drive a Camry, you definitely know it’s a 4 cylinder. The B48 feels more like a 6 cylinder. It’s got a decent punch to it. Camry, you get no punch.
The B58 6 cylinder is the one to get. Tons of power and amazing sound. It’s also very reliable too.
@@ryanb8736 not true at all The Camry's engine sounds better and much reliable than BMW's trash
@@ryanb8736 also the v6 engine for the camry is much stronger
@ryanb8736 2.4 2AZFE with a 5 speed manual still has alot of kick.
70K for a 255HP 4CYL BMW…
Why does bmw take a beautiful car the. Completely destroyed it with massive grills and horrible design choices
Stop talking i5. Electric bad sir
That spare wheel and foam pieces setup in the trunk is just unbelievably cheap
TOUCHSCREENS!
I feel bad for the powertrain engineers, nice car ruined by the designers and product team.
California or bust
4 cylinder BMWs are lame. Anything less then a 540i or 340i is boring. The Honda accord 2.0 trolls this BMW easily.
Yeah the inline 6 is the bread and butter of BMW
The 4 cylinder BMW are for those who don't care about power but want a BMW
@@lawlkings my 3 series does a nice job ❤
I am not interested in BMWs but if I was, the lowest trim I'd be going for is an inline 6 cylinder with 300+ horsepower.
I wouldn't want a bmw unless it is decently quick.
@@lawlkings bmw is known for a faster car. People see bmw they think that's fast. Now a days there weak unless you pay. Most 4 cylinder cars are rated about 255 hp so imagine paying BMW standard to be slow. Letting that sink in, it's not worth. Might as well pay the same price and get a x5, thats still decent.
i dont like the one-screen infotainment
So expensive, for nanufacturer to be so out of touch with customers likes
What happened to BMW designs? The exteriors look hideous!! Fire the designer plz
Looks boring now
BMW’s take on a Germany Lexus. The build quality of bmw is obviously getting better, but it’s also boring as hell
it sells. You cannot expect them to make noisy tight sports sedans and expect them to make a profit. Game is moving on towards comfort and luxury. Just how it is. There is a reason why Japanese mostly stopped making cars like old Supra or Silvia.
I think automotive journalists cry about touchscreen contols too much. Most people set up their cars the way they like and do not change the settings that often. Climate controls and wipers should be easily accessible thats very true, but alot of these folks act like they are changing major things every 5 minutes and its simply not true.
They look frumpy. Booooo bmw. Your new cars are ugly. Only like the x6m. Everything else is a big no.
BMW ruined this generation.
iDrive 8 sucks.
Wow, what a terrible sounding engine. So sad.
No 4 cylinders sound good. It is the best 4 cylinder made though.
Excuse me, but wtf are these roads you are driving on ? Looks like 5th world country, this is America ?!
Thanks to inflation and EU regulations, you now only get a 4 popper for $70K
This looks worse than Hyundai Elantra. Without BMW badge this will be cheap Chinese car
Honda Toyota Subaru still have the more premium luxury interior
Lol no they don't, this sounds like a cope
@@lawlkings typical cope of person who will never buy a BMW
Y’all are trippin, this car is beautiful just has ugly wheels
I would disagree. The ugly wheels don't help, but it's far from beautiful in the first place.
This is a fail for BMW and its my first time to witness this from BMW.
That dude looks like the typical frat guy with a Beemer that gives the car a bad rep.

It seems like bmw forgot to make cars.
