Prices are absolutely shockingly outrageous! 15 years ago they were around 45.000 eur. And I was even more stunned by the 20.000 eur difference for the tested models.
Surely there's a market of more than just me who would like a high quality car that isn't completely plastered in motorised vents, ambient lighting, moving door handles, and capacitive touch buttons everywhere? Not only does it add hugely to the initial cost, but they're all things that are certain to fail at massive expense.
First world problems. Don't complain about the price; we have to pay 200.000$ for the same car because of taxes. So basically we buy 1 car for ourselves, 3 cars for the government. And GDP per capita is not even quarter of Europe.
E looks way better IMO (5 has grown on me though). I’ve test driven a couple of recent Mercedes models and the all capacitive buttons for basic controls was just way too annoying for me. Such a bummer they can’t do a physical control for something as simple as volume. Would like to see you do a review on the 540i when it’s available! Great breakdown as always.
MB wins this one, hands down. What a great looking car. Let’s just keep the real engine, not a series of motors and batteries. I’m astounded as to the price points for both, however. Thomas, you have a great channel! Happy Thanksgiving to you from the USA!
E-Class W214 is a real car instead of a toy as such as 5 Series G60. E-Class is the clear winner with no doubts according to this great review Thomas, thank you.
Definitely mercedes made the better car. I like the approach they use different platforms for electric and ice cars.. Bmw has that extra dimensions and smaller trunk etc just because of the common platform.
I've figured it out. The BMW reminds me of a mixture of early 00's Mitsubishi Lancer in the front, and '90's Honda Civic/Prelude in the rear. So for me, I'd go with the Mercedes. Maybe get a personalised seat to offset the harshness in the rear of your back though.
The BMW is 11 cm longer than the Mercedes but those extra cm don't give you more interior space because 10 of the 11 cm went into the much longer frontal overhang. The nose of the Beamer is 94,5 cm long whereas the one the Mercedes sticks out only 84,8 cm. If you take that huge nose of the BMW away both cars are almost identical in length.
BMW won't give you too much interior space even if it's longer because BMW cars are weight distribution is 50/50, idk how many BMW have you own so far but I did own the 7 series f01 and F10 and way other BMWs 1 - 3 series even the x5 e70 and in all of this cars you're siting in the middle of the car as the driver. And not in the front like the Audi or Mercedes, where de weight is 60/40 some of them
The larger nose... especially with a 4-cylinder engine, is just insane and ridiculous. BMW used to be known for its long nose, which complemented their famous inline-6 engines. Now, it just looks absurd.
Oh wow for years I have drooled over the Eclass.....especially the Estate.......now with BMWs reliability climbing a bit and the new design language...YES!
I have been watching these two compete since the Mercedes-Benz W210 was competing versus the BMW E39. These two companies have been pushing each other for a very long time and the ultimate winner has been the buyer. Even if you have always preferred the MB, it's better because of the BMW and vice versa.
Both have Better interiors but I prefer E Class exterior. For 5 Series, I need to getting used for the exterior. Even the 7 looks better than the 5. (E60 is my favourite exterior design of the entire 5 Series line up )
We almost all agree that Mercedes has made a smaller s class at this point, the interior is very very nice and it’s very futuristic but jeez 104k for a rwd 4 cyl 194 ish hp diesel?! Are they nuts? For a bit more I can buy a used s class with a 280 hp l6 diesel awd and it’s even better.
When I first saw the name of the channel, I assumed the reviews wouldn't be in English. Now that I found out they are, and how great he is, I'm bingeing on his videos.
At 5:11, I am so so happy to hear that they have not used the nasty hard plastics on the lower half of the doors and dash like they did with the C Class and most of their line up. You can even see in that part that it looks like higher quality over the nasty plastic on their other models. It is this quality and attention to detail that made German cars, and Mercedes in particular, feel special. There may be a good replacement for my W212 2014 E350 Bluetec after all. Only if there is a 6 cylinder diesel though. I have the 80 litre tank and on the highway at 120kph I average 5.2 litres per 100kms and can travel about 1400kms on a tank. And because it is a V6 diesel, all the torque makes overtaking effortless. It is fast and effortless without using much fuel. Diesel should remain. It is less complex than a hybrid and for me I feel will last longer.
I have not sat inside a w214, but my w213 leaves a lot of be desired in the creaky plastic department. I have disassembled the center console and felt lined the inside plastic to plastic junctions. After watching the w206 videos my expectations for the E class are extremely low.
@@IT_Farhan My W205 C Class was also terrible for rattles and creaky interior...pretty much everything was rattling inside giving an overall feeling of cheap car! To me it doesn't make sense to put soft materials and felt tapes in the scompartments if then all the rest rattles, completely non-sense and it's a way to fool people (what you see looks nice, but what you don't see is super cheap and cost saving, but still you pay for a premium product...)
Until W205, even C class was getting soft touch materials on the bottom part of the doors, also in the back. It should be out of question to have soft touch materials in this category, even for C class/3 series considering the price. Very disappointed with this new 5 series
I’m still in the middle of watching it, but this comparison test is giving me W211 vs. E60 vibes. Mercedes-Benz going for a more evolutionary approach while BMW went all revolutionary. Looking forward to whoever wins!
The 2024 BMW G60 5-series interior door panels, the lower section seems like hard plastic at first. However, after having test driven the G60, I verified it is wrapped in a vinyl like material which has a very little bit of softness to it. Granted it isn't as padded as the Mercedes E-class but it is still padded. This is a step back in interior material quality from the previous generation BMW G30 5-series that felt more soft touch on the lower door panel both front and rear with a bit of felt lining in the pocket wall closest to the driver/passengers.
Good voice for car reviews. It’s the E class for me. Gorgeous car. It looks so masculine this year and that’s exciting, and I’m just a huge Mercedes fan.
This is a class where elegance is important in my opinion. MB E had lost its way but seems to have come back home for this new refresh. The jagged or sharp lines on the BMW don't make it look sporty, simply just a mess.
I had a Mercedes GLS. It worked great until 65000 miles when the first problem started with the chair massage function. It cost me $2000 to replace a $120 tube. The second problem was around 75000 miles when the engine stopped working all of a sudden and the dealership said these types of engines die at around 75k to 100k miles due to a bad lining chemical. The cost to replace the engine was $35000 which I didn't do because you can only buy similar engines. Btw the dealership (both associates and the manager) kept recommending to sell the car to an unsuspecting buyer which is unethical on another level. The only honest thing they did was recommending not to buy Mercedes anymore because of their issues. They said they themselves drive japanese cars!
That's a big big lie! It's absolutely not true the whole BullShit story here. This is a Jealous insecure Japanese car owner who is a Mercedes-hater. They can never compare any of their overhyped overpriced Lexus in America to any well- built Mercedes ..From rust, body panels and structures, paint finish, interior &exterior design and fishing, handling, agility, safety, etc. Even.in Japan the rich, upper middle class drives Mercedes and not Any Japanese Luxury cars mimicking Mercedes and same around the world except in North America where their Government's have made Mercedes cars inaccessible to any hard working Americans so they go for cheap Alternatives
When it comes to luxury cars, BMW is my top choice. Its spacious interior, comfortable seating, and luxurious features never fail to impress my clients.
The Mercedes is light years ahead in the infotainment sector and interior comfort. Both cars are sexy in their own way, but that Mercedes' dash is hella sick
I'd love to see a comparison review going in depth with the infotainment system and assistance packages. The tech is such a big part of the experience and comfort that reviewers never really go into.
My first car was a BMW and I've owned two since then. Just watching the first 4 minutes made me aware of my brand loyalty & bias. The Bimmer is the clear choice for me.
I’m an American and I’m going to get a new car next year. I have a BMW M550i now. I’m debating between the new BMW 5 series and Mercedes E class (both with gas powered engines) with an outside shot of getting the new Mercedes CLE. You are much more detailed than most reviewers and I thank you for that. This was very helpful.
Which production year is your M550i? I have an M550i G30 from 2023 version, one of the last samples manufactured, and at this moment I am quite happy with it (except the fuel consumption in the city). I do not feel the need to go either for new BMW 5 G60 nor for Mercedes E class.
It’s a 2018 model that was released in late 2017. It’s been great, but I’m ready to get a new car. I wish BMW would make that version of the 5 series again.
@@katman042 BMW will release soon an M5 Touring (estate) model with at least 750HP V8 e-hybrid. Perhaps that will be a more interesting proposal than classic G60 sedan. M models also bring a slightly better interior quality than standard lines.
Great review Thomas. Clear and detailed of all aspects. One thing I would like you to test is the sound system in these cars and give your view of that. For a over 100k car I would expect an excellent sound system - plus a driver and someone to wash it weekly and free fuel for life 😅
I would (if I could) take the E class just for its brighter interior. Because I really dislike those dark bunkers which German cars usually are. And judging from the video the 5 series rides like a 1st series VW Golf. Any highway joint was heard and seen. About the design language I would not judge because tastes are not to be discussed. At the end both are at least half meter too long for the parking lots available where I am located.
Excellent work Thomas! As I mentioned earlier, the Mercedes E-Class looks wonderful. The exterior line is elegant, executive and modern. The interior of the E-Class is a delight for the senses. Super modern but at the same time with high quality and tradition. The BMW has revolutionized the exterior too much. Lines that are too square, creased and an unappealing design. The BMW's interior is elegant and beautiful, but... it falls short of what Mercedes presents.
I agree on BMW, but I think the Mercedes went down in style and elegance compared to the last generation. The screens are now just stuck on like in a Hyundai compared to how nicely integrated they were in the previous gen. I feel like they're trying to be minimalist and sophisticated at the same time which just ends up looking toyish. For example the seat control buttons in the previous gen looked so intricate and beautiful, now they just turned them into some rounded blocks. I don't get it.
BMW turn signal seems too discrete with red lights on top and bottom, hopefully it's brighter irl. The inner curved screen doesn't feel premium compared to Mercedes' one. Being curved means it isn't passenger friendly either, which I never understood.. However, 20k extra means it's roughly 25% more than the BMW which is insane. Ever more insane are their prices!!!
have had many mercedes in my family. from c class to s class. i’ve seen how the value of an s class goes to almost zero in 10 years. also have a model 3 performance. shitty build inside, panel gaps, but amazing drive, economy and technology for 50k. cannot wrap my head anymore to blow 100k on an e-class in detriment of a model 3. it is an amazing car, the e class but price full spec can reach 110k in Portugal. wtf is that.
Great review as usual but I felt a very important aspect was overlooked and that was reliability. Here in the US the BMW gets a purely AVERAGE reliability score, while the Mercedes is actually two slots BELOW AVERAGE. Having a beautiful new car won’t be as much fun if it fails to start after a dinner out, or the info center glitches or other problems in that nice new Mercedes. Please share any input on reliability. One more note, here in the US the cars are priced very similar to one another so I was quite surprised to hear the wide price difference in Europe.

And not in the front like the Audi or Mercedes, where de weight is 60/40 some of them
What you think they're just all 50/50 weight distribution because they want it so or willed it into place? That isn't so easy@@worldisawesome6789
The larger nose... especially with a 4-cylinder engine, is just insane and ridiculous. BMW used to be known for its long nose, which complemented their famous inline-6 engines. Now, it just looks absurd.
The E class in this generation is so much better looking than the 5. I'd definitely pick the Merc in this class without hesitation.
The BMW feels f***ing cheap inside, especially the door panels. The E-class is completely on another level of luxury.
that e class is already legendary
This is the comparison I’ve been waiting for! Thank you!
enjoy !
The E-class just looks so much more elegant!
Simple. I’ll take the E class with the exclusive trim that has the hood ornament. Best choice imo
The E-Class defo looks better and more classy from the exterior. The 5 series is a bit messy but I like the interior. All eyes on the new Audi A6 now.
As a e class owner from 2014. This gen w214 is very very appealing. Make it stand out among their EV competitors.
I prefer the BMW interior but the driver's seat already showing signs of wrinkles and sagging
Sagging - new feature of BMW for more comfort while maintaining the traditional sporty handling
Sedans nowadays are becoming more and more boring. I miss the early 2000s E class with separated headlamps, pure classic.
Thank you so much for doing these reviews in English!
€104k for the E Class...holy shit!!
When I first saw the name of the channel, I assumed the reviews wouldn't be in English. Now that I found out they are, and how great he is, I'm bingeing on his videos.
thanks and agree =)
great to have you here :)

gotta include some easter eggs for very attentive viewers
I'd like to see those screens after 5 years of usage. They will look great, I'm sure.
The Autogefühl fake exhaust police always makes me burst out in laughter...😆
to protect and serve! 🚨🚓
I’m also really happy about the material choices ,I’m even shocked the BMW used cheaper plastics this time around
@@scottsmith9903 yes I agree. That's crazy. They swapped roles for this one. Lol.
I'm a little biased since I have a 2022 C class, but I think the E class looks better than the 5 series.
Until W205, even C class was getting soft touch materials on the bottom part of the doors, also in the back. It should be out of question to have soft touch materials in this category, even for C class/3 series considering the price. Very disappointed with this new 5 series
This new E-Class front-look ... 🤩👍
I’m still in the middle of watching it, but this comparison test is giving me W211 vs. E60 vibes.
Mercedes-Benz going for a more evolutionary approach while BMW went all revolutionary. Looking forward to whoever wins!
Got some E60 vibes during the interior part as well.
The S-class needs the Super Screen - or something even better.
Mercedes currently has the best interiors on the market.
G30 is golden in terms of build quality. I have an e450 w213 because of the interior and exterior styling and not the interior quality 😂.
Thomas,
As usual, you’re on it. You’re still the best!😊
thanks so much! Keep recommending !
Both cars are good. But for me answer is easy. I would go for an E class definitely
Good voice for car reviews. It’s the E class for me. Gorgeous car. It looks so masculine this year and that’s exciting, and I’m just a huge Mercedes fan.
Cheers!
As always, Thomas is on top 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
cheers m8 !
CAN WE STILL PURCHASE THE PREVIOUS VERSION OF THE 5 SERIES??
Very nice video but I think you should have included the A6
man could easily slap a citroen badge on that bmw and nobody would have noticed 😅
As always a great review! I also thought that the E class won until I heard at the end the 20,000 Euro difference… no thanks :( :( :(
This is a class where elegance is important in my opinion.
Wow
That's a big big lie! It's absolutely not true the whole BullShit story here. This is a Jealous insecure Japanese car owner who is a Mercedes-hater. They can never compare any of their overhyped overpriced Lexus in America to any well- built Mercedes ..From rust, body panels and structures, paint finish, interior &exterior design and fishing, handling, agility, safety, etc. Even.in Japan the rich, upper middle class drives Mercedes and not Any Japanese Luxury cars mimicking Mercedes and same around the world except in North America where their Government's have made Mercedes cars inaccessible to any hard working Americans so they go for cheap Alternatives
nice story bro . bullshitest thing i have heard so far 😂
I'm having trouble believing this story.
Next E gen wins by a mile.....both interior and exterior.
Amazing review as always Thomas👍👍 I hope we will get the Mercedes CLE and BMW 4 series comparison
thank you very much !
Idk what BMW was thinking designing the new 5 series. I’ve never been a Mercedes fan, but this make and easy decision choosing the new merc.
Thank you for video. Very needed comparison, I thing. And BTW I realy like how naturaly and funny way you use your bloopers in complete video.
highly appreciated :-)
Neither look classy in my opinion. Mercedes S class is a masterpiece though
Insane price for both vehicles.
0:36 the shine of the star said it all
hehe I loved that shot indeed
The 5 series looks perfect, love it!
They both great cars !! I will go Mercedes, really like the looks and the nice interior.
You guys do such a great job with these reviews. 👍🏼
Cheers m8!
When it comes to luxury cars, BMW is my top choice. Its spacious interior, comfortable seating, and luxurious features never fail to impress my clients.
Is that your goal - to impress your clients?😂 Superficiality.
Excellent comparison Thomas. Thanks ) 5 series is awesome.
cheers m8 !
The DCRainmaker of auto reviewers!! Fantastic content!!
First I didn't like the new 5 but now I've liked ıt. New E class so traditional but 5 series innovator.
The Mercedes is light years ahead in the infotainment sector and interior comfort. Both cars are sexy in their own way, but that Mercedes' dash is hella sick
nice review as always. e class wins for me. I wonder where is new audi's?
cheers! Audi new models are delayed indeed. We ll keep u updated nevertheless
Bmw the last years has lost the design, Mercedes look so much better and it has amazing interior
Get the 550i LCI 2022 all blacked out
@@katman042 BMW will release soon an M5 Touring (estate) model with at least 750HP V8 e-hybrid. Perhaps that will be a more interesting proposal than classic G60 sedan. M models also bring a slightly better interior quality than standard lines.
Great review Thomas. Clear and detailed of all aspects. One thing I would like you to test is the sound system in these cars and give your view of that. For a over 100k car I would expect an excellent sound system - plus a driver and someone to wash it weekly and free fuel for life 😅
I prefer E Class better
As a BMW Fan, E-Class looks Much more Better.
I like the paint color on the MB but the 5 is a better looking car
The new E class looks very very beautiful! ❤
I don’t like the interior and exterior look of the new 5 series. I have the last gen and maybe I’m getting old but I like the familiarity of it.
I'm honestly perplexed by BMW design for 2, 5, and 7. Is it appealing for other countries in Asia, for example?
Still love the 3, and 8.
At the end both are at least half meter too long for the parking lots available where I am located.
i owned an older e class. and have some experience with the 5 as well, i think both of them look better inside but worse outside..
Which one will have the higher cost to service and repair? TCO should be a measurable metric as the vehicles are increasing in price.
unsure yet. However at this moment it seems that reliability has gone up for BMW while it went down for Mercedes according to latest figures
I just bought the 2024 e 350 and it’s amazing I love everything about it
I’ll pick BMW any day , stunning design. The Mercedes looks almost same as the previous, just minor changes
Actually the Mercedes is a lot different than before and a lot nicer.
Both looks like a disfigured previous generation 5-series and E-class
Wow wow wow...an E 220d costs 104.000 euros in 2023! 😮
ya, still cant believe that either
You're just too stingy with your money! 😜😅
10 years ago, I paid 2,80€ for 1 bread ...
Today, the same bread costs me 5,40€ ... 🤷♂️
Probably because of the hyperscreen if you get it without it’s cheaper and better looking
The new E-Class 220d starts at ~64K.
It's not that much ... 🤷♂️
You can buy a VW Golf for 90K, if you want! 🤪
@@yes8032 hyper screen and amg premium plus and night package still don't justify 104k euros for an entry level engine 2.0 diesel
Mercedes will allways be nr.1 in Germany 🫡
have had many mercedes in my family. from c class to s class. i’ve seen how the value of an s class goes to almost zero in 10 years. also have a model 3 performance. shitty build inside, panel gaps, but amazing drive, economy and technology for 50k. cannot wrap my head anymore to blow 100k on an e-class in detriment of a model 3. it is an amazing car, the e class but price full spec can reach 110k in Portugal. wtf is that.
