      Cheers. From what I can tell (from watching videos of people in Florida) they all seem fairly decent.
      The question will be what can you get here ? Probably a little office plant like have (from wilko) or the classic IKEA ginseng ones.
      Apparently the Benjamina that I have, are the biggest trouble makers. Don’t like defoliation and can be fussy. But I’ve had a great time with them.

    Lovely trunk movement on that. It's amazing how quickly it has fattened up, even with the small pot and frequent pruning & defoliations.
    I took some ficus cuttings back in Oct but they're still just tiny shoots in yoggy pots lol. I guess they'll probably take off in spring. I wonder if they'll get similar vigour as yours .. maybe. the mother tree needs cutting back at least twice a year. I even stopped giving it fert to slow it down last year but it still seems to push out new shoots at an alarming rate.

      @BackGardenBonsai  3 роки тому +1

      Cheers. I’d say your environment is equal to. If not greater than my tropical wanna be zone. So I’m sure yours will kick off soon. When they get going they are aggressive growers. You can easily cut them back a few times a year.

    Get yourself a cheap monitor for a lorry reversing camera, you can connect it to your camera and use it for focus and framing. Really cheap option and will save you spending £100s on a new camera.👍

    This Ficus benjamina appears to have nice small-ish leaves. Do you know if this is a specific cultivar of Ficus b.?

    • @BackGardenBonsai

      I've no idea. it was bought from a shop where it wasn't even labeled as a ficus. it just said "foliage mix" on the lablel haah

  • @mikec3820

    i wanted a regular ficus plant to bonsai. but all we get here are those "ginseng" type. so i got a cheap one (12 or 15$) then i cut the thumb thick grafted top trunk off and rooted it. the chinese elm and hibiscus will root from thick hard wood cuttings too

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  3 роки тому +1

      Cheers. Ah nice work. It’s good that they root so easily. Means you can get rid of that silly ginseng but no problem 👍

      Cheers Kate. I believe I did. Probably from about a month after I repotted it until the end of summer. Maybe every two weeks. At half strength to what the packet says . ( box says once a month) if that makes sense.

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  Рік тому

      probably not. but only one way to find out!! usually if its that big it wont be able to suck up enough water to survive as such. but i would try it. its going to die if you just throw it away, so may as well try
