    my favourite UA-cam story, tu for the effort that goes into sharing and the inspiration you give. I appreciate the pace of the videos, publishing when you have something to show not just for the algorithm

      That tops my list of comments, thank you! I always feel guilty for not putting enough content out, and and the same time I want to make sure it’s not UA-cam click bait…

    As an aircraft maintenance technician and 964 owner myself, your attention to detail makes me extremely proud. All these methods you're using are the standards in aviation as well. I thoroughly enjoy your content.

      Maybe my next project should be something in the air? Porsche did actually sell their air cooled engines to a small propeller plane at one point!

      Im sure you could make it happen under your local aviation administration under the experimental class@@islandworks

    Amazing work!! The attention to detail is off the charts. I truely think this will be the best designed modern 964 track car in existence. Porsche themselves would have cut so many corners on the build. Keep the content coming.

    I don’t watch many build series, but yours is one of the most interesting. I love the tool that you came up with for concentrically, twisting wiring. What a great idea. I am definitely going to 3-D print one. It is especially difficult to get the wiring to be concentrically twisted with a small bundle of wiring. Brilliant idea.

      Yeah the inner core is always a tough start and will affect all of the rest. This tools helps with that!

    Amazing video as always, been following this for some years already. You really should have way more suscribers. Will you upload the swirlers files? I think they could become parametrized to make custom ones easily

    • @islandworks
      @islandworks  19 днів тому

      I’ll find some way to share them. Ideally someone would bring it forward to make them adjustable

  • @djremotion2
    @djremotion2 20 днів тому +1

    Are the fillers really needed? For beauty I understand, also maybe fixing the harness if one or two cables would break in, the fillers could be used as in replace. But I can’t see cable being both lighter, bendier and cheaper to do without the extra unused wires added.

    • @islandworks
      @islandworks  20 днів тому

      Good point! What happens if a layer is not complete is that is distorts while bending the bundle. When it’s complete you ensure all stays perfectly in place

    I literally thought earlier today that I wonder how you are going to tune the car. LOL! Nice to see you back :)
    When I used to install car alarms many years ago, we used a simple trick for this sort of thing. We would take all of the wires we wanted to bundle, and twist them together with a cordless drill. You just stick them all in the chuck, then the other end goes in a vice. Put some tension on it, and slowly twist it with the drill. Comes out pretty good. Easiest with two people. Once it's done you can untwist just what you need at either end. Would be limited by the chuck size on your drill, and you need to have different colored wire for each item so you can tell which is which at the other end easily, or you have some time on your hands toning it out.

    • @islandworks
      @islandworks  20 днів тому

      I’ve not tried it other than for smaller twisted pairs. How do you get it event doing that?

    • @TheAlanFish
      @TheAlanFish 20 днів тому

      @@islandworks It's critical that all of the wires have the same tension on them when you start. That's why you really need two people. One person holds tension on the drill, while the other straightens all the wires and gets them equally tensioned before they go into the vice. Once you have that, it sort of naturally sorts itself out.
      We never really went past about 20 or so wires, because that was typically all you needed for all of your sensors, etc. We also were not super concerned about an odd variation in the twist pattern because everything we did was going to end up concealed anyway. Our main reason for doing it was just to ease the task of pulling a lot of wires through tight spots in the car interior.
      That said, it was pretty remarkable how good you could get things to look, and especially if you are just going to end up covering it with heat shrink, it would absolutely look fine IMHO.
