India shouldn't look at Bangladesh crisis through Sheikh Hasina’s narrative | Editor, The Daily Star

- Sheikh Hasina had mastered the art of manipulating elections and believed that she could get away with it, says Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher, The Daily Star. The Awami League became a one-person party, and Hasina became a one-person government. Handling the student protests was an inexplicable failure. More than 200 people were killed, which totally transformed the psyche of the students and the general public. The overall impression in Bangladesh is that India had been a great supporter of the Hasina's government and did not pay enough attention to the bigger picture. As the Awami League's narrative became narrower and narrower, India's view became focused on only one party. India needs to look at the crisis through the prism of democracy. Bangladesh is a Muslim majority country, with devout Muslims who go to the mosque five times a day, but it is not going to be an extremist country. If India can be Hindu without becoming non-secular, Bangladesh’s Muslim heritage, too, should be accepted. India and Bangladesh must have a relationship that helps both countries grow together and independently.

The Hindus in Bangladesh has suffered Genocide in 1947,1971 and even now with their Shops being looted,their properties are being burnt,Their temples and Deities are being damaged and being vandalised in 27 districts and you say don't look at it from relegious angle.There is this Jamait e Islami ,an aboulutely fundamentalists party, are now at the center stage of the Islamic political drama that is being played out.In 1947 Hindus were 22% of the total populace and now they constitute only 8% of the populace and you say do not look at it from religious point of view,.Let me tell you that Bangladesh will degenerate in to another Islamic country where minorities will be forced to flee or shall be forced to lead a life of a second class citizen with no fundamental rights.India should be very very vigilant and help Hindu brothers to come to India and lead a signified life here.Let Bangladesh choose whatever they want.
Not only Hindus suffered Genocide in 1947, 1971. Muslims also suffered genocide at those years. Please don't propagate facts partially with a sectarian view.
Everyone in Bangladesh suffered between 1947 and 1971 because it was ruled by Pakistan. They were not even acknowledged as a separate country and were frequently exploited from a cultural, social and economic point. It wasn't just Hindu's as well, anyone who identified as being a Bengal was looked as a second class citizen. If you are going to have a stance on a subject, make sure to have due diligence and research the subject.
