can we talk about spirit tracks zelda? in my opinion, she put in a shit ton of work just to get her body back and even worked with link for pretty much the entire game. she also has way more personality than the other zeldas in my opinion since we watch her grow alongside link during the journey
Ironically, one of the black sheep (since it featured trains it literally broke any immersion of being in a medieval/fantasy themed world) happens to have one of the best incarnation of Zelda. A game that at first doesn't even feels like Zelda ends up making the character herself worthy of having the franchise named after her.
People don't give Zelda enough credit. They think she's only the damsel in distress that needs rescuing, but she's not. That's Peach's job. Zelda, on the other hand, is not just a damsel in distress. In Wind Waker, she helps you fight Ganon with Light Arrows. She does the same in Twilight Princess. In Ocarina of Time, she hides from Ganon for SEVEN years. And during that time, she rescues Ruto. And STILL in Ocarina of Time, she helps Link seal away Ganon by restraining him with her magic. In Breath of the Wild, she's the one who finished off Ganon. Heck, in Skyward Sword, she saves Link from certain death after Groose steals Link's loftwing. I could go on some more, but you get the idea.
Twilight Princess is by far her best incarnation, she was in her coronation scene to become QUEEN, she was the political order and influence, also she was a model influences to the other ladies of Hyrule, she gave her life power to Midna to help her, she summons the 3 lake spirits and she uses the light arrows in the final battle + she was about to fight Zant until he threatened her about hurting her people, she is by far the best Zelda, A QUEEN I must say

There is so much emotion in the characters in the game, and a really good story to go along with it. Byrne (The guy with the bloodshot eyes and a blue ponytail) is one of the best examples of this because of the fact that he is such a cool dynamic character, so he changes so much throughout the story. People don't give this game enough credit, I swear.

I recently starting getting into botw and Botw Zelda is a badass. She is very adventurous, studious, and she saves link’s life by obliterating the guardians that are about to kill him, order the Sheikah to place him in the shrine of resurrection when he’s mortally wounded, proceeds to hide his master sword so it doesn’t end up in the wrong hands while link is recovering in stasis in the shrine, and willingly allows herself to be sealed away by ganon to keep it from spreading outside the castle. Not to mention once you defeat ganon, Zelda is released and administers the final blow against ganon.
Even though she gets kidnapped too, unlike Peach, who barely helps Mario on his quest, Zelda actually helps Link a lot, and sometimes even fights alongside him.
What about a legend of Zelda game where everybody knows Link’s the hero-he got a headstart when he was little-and instead we play as some backwater village maiden named “Zee” for the first ten minutes who's parents used to work at the royal castle before it was attacked and she was sent out to the countryside as a baby Impa’s the village crazy lady and takes far too much delight in pretending to be nutso while secretly training like Iroh and teaching “Zee” what she’ll need when the time comes.

Just the same with BOTW Zelda, she seals herself into Ganon for 100 years, holding his powers at bay and waiting for Link to wake up. OOT Zelda sends Link into the future to stop Ganon and hides away from Ganon for 7 years. Have you ever seen Peach take this kind of precaution? I think not. Zelda handles many things on her own, if you haven't noticed. Even though she always is rescued, so is whole Hyrule and that is the premise of the LOZ Games. But they still do a real good job making her not the typical damsel in distress but a damsel who was able to hold her own, but still needed rescue.
